Had a bit too much to drink over the bank holiday weekend? Here’s a way to revitalise and get yourself ready for work tomorrow: Anti-oxidant Berry Boost 🍓 We always hear how important it is to incorporate anti-oxidants into our diet and most of us including me simply nod and follow this advice without understanding why. They prevent damage to important cells by preventing molecules from reacting with oxygen and becoming highly chemically reactive. Without antioxidants, these potentially dangerous molecules can damage DNA and are essentially your body’s first line of defence. Is there a secret code to crack the UKCAT? Yes and No. The UKCAT is an aptitude test designed to help select prospective medical students however, from experience it’s something that you can definitely prepare for, but that preparation does not always mean you will do well. There are people who can prepare for a week and get a score of 800 on the other hand there are people that can practice for 3 month and not get over 650. Practicing is important because you’re able to recognise particular types of question that frequently arise and work them out at a faster rate which in turn gives you more time to answer more questions, so it is impossible to improve your score. Useful websites to help with preparing for the UKCAT are: Medify The Medic Portal UKCAT Ninja Kaplan As well as constant practice it is important once you’ve become comfortable with the style of testing to time yourself for each section: Quick Tips Verbal Reasoning: this may not work for most people but I found that reading the question first and scanning for keywords was helpful if the text was very wordy and long Decision Making: utilise the white board and pen provided. As you read the question draw out the scenario using symbols and letters as this helps to visualise quite complicated scenarios Quantitative Reasoning: a good way to begin revision for this is through reviewing advanced GCSE work books and find shortcuts to work out calculating percentages and converting currencies etc. Also practice using the online calculator Abstract Reasoning: when looking for a common pattern use these 6 features to help narrow down your assessment. Symmetry Number and type of angles Intersections Object colour Object position Direction Situational Judgement: with this section the most important thing you can do is practice practice and practice and you will able to understand the process of approaching scenarios through reading answers And finally when in doubt and the clock is ticking- guess (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx1igShHBXZ/?igshid=5n8q95hj27ok
