"You'll never be the strongest ever again."
â For me, I've never interpreted Wemmbu saying this as a means to boast about the fact he got FlameFrags to flee.
Maybe some part of it stemmed from triumph â to finally being the one people run away from rather than the one running away, but just the way he said it made it sound like he was relieved rather than arrogant or condescending.
Wemmbu, as a character, never wanted strength just for the sake of having it.
For him, it was comfort. It was safety. All the way back to the earlier episodes of UU where he still had an OSC, he said it himself that he didn't wanna use it to destroy the server, but just that it was a good thing to have in his back pocket.
"Would you rather be feared or be loved?" Egg had asked him. Wemmbu sputtered and redirected the conversation rather than properly answering.
After losing so many things, so many people because he was too weak â Wemmbu came to the realization that in order to be left alone, in order for people to not mess with what he cares about after Clown and Ferre burned down Mane's tree as soon as Manepear abandoned it: he had to prove himself, which later transpired into the Power Arc, where he actively sought out ways to be better because "lately all I've ever done is just lose, or be weaker than people".
He had been too weak to protect Zam when they were fighting Spoke and his men in that obsidian box. He had to drop the mace and even then, Zam's safety hadn't been guaranteed. The only reason Zam lived then was because he has the threat of chunkbans. He had access to canonically advanced technology, and the threat of using it was enough for him to be left alone.
He had been too weak to do anything when Flame kept antagonizing his civilization. For a fact, Wemmbu knew that his skills were lackluster in juxtaposition to The immortal demon. He lived because the first time that Flame attacked, they managed to get him in a cart trap. The second time, Flame had to evacuate because his team was getting in his way. The third time, Flame left him alone under Zam's orders to keep Wemmbu alive.
In all three of those instances, Wemmbu didn't scare anyone off â he had been left alone under the influence of something and someone else, but never because he was strong enough to get them to stop.
When Zam blew up Wemmpire, he had been weak then, too. Not even just the first, but the second time as well. He couldn't do anything to prevent the way Zam humiliated him, beating him with his fist until his totem popped, and it wasn't until he had the aid of the OSC that Wemmbu was able to properly return the favor and give PZE a taste of it's own medicine.
Even then, he wasn't so overly proud. If anything, he was resigned. "Eventually my rockets will run out and you'll kill me, but at that point Egg would've already gotten away". He leveled Zam's empire because he took away things he cared about â the Wemmpire, their friendship, the homes of his citizens, his best friend â not because he just wanted to.
Wemmbu did this to prove he wasn't as weak or small as Zam made him out to be. That he couldn't be pushed over and broken and he wouldn't retaliate.
Wemmbu couldn't do anything during Skyciv, he was too weak.
Although it had been mainly due to his recklessness that Lopezz's snowciv got blown up, it had also been because he wasn't respected. He wasn't viewed as a threat. His word wasn't enough to sway people because they know him as Wemmbu who didn't know how to fight well enough that he could be recognized for it, and when he does fight, people chalk up his skill to being just a cheap trick because he uses a mace.
He couldn't stop Jaden when he held him and Egg hostage and trapped them in an island.
He wasn't strong enough to save Rejoice from the wardens.
He wasn't good enough to beat Flame during the tournament.
He stayed in the Farlands specifically because he knew that if he could gain access to what Lakarek was using against him â The Forge â then he'd finally, finally be strong enough to prevent all of these things from happening again.
When he beats Flame, he doesn't tell him that because he wanted to rub it in his face that he lost. In my own interpretation, that had been Wemmbu assuring himself. That sounded like someone who, after fighting while exhausted for so long, finally felt like they could relax, but because of course UU Wemmbu is never allowed peace â it leaves him unfulfilled at the same time.
And what do you know, he had been too weak to keep Parrot and Flame from uncovering his identity. Too weak to stop Lettuce from capturing him, even if it had been right after he defeated 1000 people â but what was two more?
