If sticking out had an award, Kalani would win it.
While others wore tight fitting shirts, girls donning dresses that barely went past their curves, she wore loose fitting tops and dresses, akin to what you might expect a pregnant woman to wear on a beach, sometimes sporting jean shorts.
Today’s ensemble consisted of a peasant top, a mid-calf length skirt, and some Birkenstock sandals for good measure.
She didn’t fit in, and it was easy to tell.
“If you’re sure.” Kalani offered a bright smile. At least he wasn’t upset.
“No, you haven’t. It’s not my usual place. I’m usually at home or a beach or something along those lines.”
❛❛ ah. the beach. ❜❜
he knew relatively nothing about her, but just the way she looked, and the mention of the beach was already a better suited scene for the stranger.
❛❛ you look like the type--- ❜❜
❛❛ how did you find yourself here, then? ❜❜
she looked interesting enough, evidently. tamatoa wasn’t one to give his time to just anyone. he saw her worthy enough to strike up a conversation with, at the very least.
Oh... well, would you be surprised if I say that it's my own family members? They don't really like how I look like, tanned skin and all.
❛❛ surprised?? i ate my grandma. ❜❜
❛❛ ‘ crabs aren’t supposed to be shiny tamatoa!! ’ ❜❜
with a roll of his eyes, he dropped the imitation of his late grandmother’s voice. ------nothing if not dramatic.
❛❛ well look at me NOW, grandma. ❜❜
he grinned, claws opening as he gestured to himself.
❛❛ family isn’t any good. it took eating mine. ❜❜
No offense but I’ve literally never forgiven anyone or gotten over anything in my life
Tama, I need your advice. What do you usually do whenever people make you feel bad about yourself, and how you look like? :c
a pause, as he was genuinely not sure how to answer the question. no one had ever come to him for ADVICE.
of course it was something that he used to have to deal with------ brush your teeth and you’ll be shinier, you’re too drab------ but he’d turned a deaf ear to it years ago. the only way to do so, was to start seeing himself as the shiniest DECAPOD that there was. eventually he began to believe it. in return he did become slightly OBSESSED with being the best. with being the SHINIEST. but the concept was the same. tamatoa finally became shiny enough when he stopped seeing himself as DRAB. aside from his own opinion, not much else mattered.
❛❛ well i WAS a drab little crab once. ❜❜
❛❛ and who exactly would want to mess with a shiny fan of mine? ❜❜
@tamatoa: I found a picture of you
I'm sorry if this question bothers you but it's getting late and I'm curious, what was it like with you and Maui before the big fight happened? :o
Hesitation was clear as Tamatoa took a step back away from the question, as well as from his feelings.
This was the one question that he was PERHAPS most uncomfortable answering.
For a moment, it dawned on him how quickly everything had changed. It was a relatively short time ago that he and Maui were on GOOD terms. Soon, however, things began deteriorating, and then Tamatoa wore one less leg, and Maui couldn’t get by Lalotai without his painful upbringing being rubbed in his face.
But they used to be friends. Good friends------ a thousand years ago.
After all--- a lot of what Tamatoa knows came from Maui. Maui is the reason that SHININESS is of such importance to the giant crab. Maui is the reason that Tamatoa’s EGO is as inflated as it is. Tamatoa would be nothing of importance at all if he hadn’t met Maui years ago.
They were too much alike now, however. Tamatoa had taken on much of Maui’s personality. It made it difficult for them to get along when they were both competing to be the BEST, and to be recognized as the best by the rest of the world. A somebody. A hero.
Tamatoa never really had anyone with him. Maui stumbled across him, a small crab at the time, and things changed for both of them. They spent time together, and shared stories that only those who were alive for hundreds--- thousands of years could relate to. Tamatoa had someone to talk to, and it was something that he wasn’t used to. It was something that he lost, and missed when he and Maui had their falling out.
Stubborn as always, however, it is something that he will never admit.
Friendship at its finest.

Kalani wasn’t entirely sure how she got there, in the corner of an all too loud and crowded bar on a Friday night.
Some people from Te Fiti, her environmental action group, around her age had invited her out for some drinks after a clean up. Feeling elated after the success of the clean up mentioned, she had agreed, but quickly regretted her decision.
She sipped timidly on a drink that contained more juice than alcohol, watching the people around her talk and dance. She would have much preferred being home and reading a book.
With a short sigh, Kalani finished off her drink, and turned to go towards the exit. However, she was stopped by another person who had been close enough that she ran right into them.
“Oh, god. I’m so sorry. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” The young woman apologized profusely to the stranger, putting on a timid smile.
The overcrowded bar, was exactly Tamatoa’s type of scene. Loud, busy, and filled to the top with drunk, mostly unsavory people.
Mostly.
He might have been just the slightest bit buzzed, due to a night of drinking, and celebrating nothing in particular, but still, as she bumped into him he noticed something different about her.
There was something about her. Something that interested him. She didn’t quite fit in to their setting. From her look, to her demeanor. She wasn’t the type of person that he was used to running into.
At once, his eyes turned to face the stranger he’d just collided with.
❛❛ That was—— ❜❜
He stumbled for a moment, quickly righting himself before continuing.
❛❛ It’s more common than you’d think. Don’t worry about it. ❜❜
❛❛ I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before—? ❜❜
am i dramatic yes is it justified also yes
