Not The Best Holiday....

Last week I went to see the movie Best Man Holiday...it's been 14 years since the last one? Wow, time flies.  I had high hopes for this movie, since it was one of the FEW where Black folk were portrayed in a comical not bafoonish role. So I sat back and expected to be entertained; I was....eventually, but that was AFTER I was insulted first. Worse than being insulted were the ignorant folks sitting in the theater....and these were the folks of color. I have come to expect white folk not having a clue when it comes to insulting us, but for their ignorance to be co-signed BY us? That's far more insulting. First the editor tells one of the main characters that "his first book was smart and well written," then he kicks the pail of milk over and says "and I'm not just talking Black people smart"...and that was FUNNY? Ask the folk sitting watching the movie...they laughed like someone told a joke...

The next insult is an internal one...where they are complaining that the "N word" should be taken out of the dictionary ( good point ) and as he tells his friends how insulting the word is, he turns when another character comes into the room, and USES the word, as he welcomes him into the room.....What is funny about being called the N word? And then making a joke of it??? They killed the characters...from Nia Long hiding her white boyfriend, to the other over acting people in the movie.....I was disappointed and reminded, sometimes you have to leave the originals alone. At least then the characters were real...now,they were over the top. Was it a good movie? Yes, there were some really funny scenes and some very sad ones...go see it, because we need your support to get more movies made....this season at the awards show, we'll be more present than we've ever been because there were some really good movies made.... we'll be maids, slaves and butlers....this could've been our non servant movie, but it feels like it was made to make Black folk laugh and white folks laugh AT us......disappointed.....

Seriously?

                          What gives?! I'm watching HGTV's Bath Crashers and the guy they picked at the store works for Microsoft! He was in the store looking for a tool belt when they approached him. That is totally unfair! They should have asked him who he was, what he did and then gave it to someone who really could use the remodel. He could have afforded to upgrade that bath on his own!

This is why I know the person who wins their Urban Oasis is going to be someone rich. The same as Publisher's Clearing House. Rewarding people who don't need it, while the rest of us could only wish we had it that good.
