Contemporary art isn’t stupid.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s seen those videos of “standing in front of paintings we could’ve made” and it’s almost always contemporary art. Those videos make me irrationally angry, not only because it’s disrespectful to the artist, but also because it’s not true.

Sure, you could’ve made some of those paintings. But you didn’t. That’s the whole point of contemporary art. It’s doing what no one thought to do. These artists are trailblazers and creative, because they took simple ideas such as shapes, colors, and space, and made something meaningful out of it. That, if anything, is talent.

Do you have to like every piece of art out there! Of course not! But don’t insult the artist by disregarding their hard work.
