The wedding is over, so now it’s time to jump back into cosplay!! I was going to keep this costume a surprise, but I’m too excited. I don’t want to anymore 😜 I’m currently working on Kira from The Dark Crystal! I want to look as much like a puppet as possible, so I’m actually making a mask that will move when I talk. It’s probably going to be real creepy and hang out in that uncanny valley just like the movie! I’m so thrilled. I made a mold of my face (a horrifying and claustrophobic experience), cast my face in plaster, and then made a mold of the face cast with silicone. This is going to be cast in resin later. I thought it might be time to show you all some more detailed dress shots! This held up so well! I wore it 3 times and nothing fell apart, which is a lot more than I can say for any of my cosplays 😂 Getting married of course isn’t about the dress, but I’m so proud that I was able to use my skills to really personalize this small part of my wedding. What I really hope is that is inspired someone else out there to make their own dress! Whether it’s for your wedding, a prom, or a night out, you can do it! Take time to master new skills on practice pieces and don’t be too frustrated when something goes wrong. Thank you to everyone that followed this journey and cheered me on! It was always so nice to hear people say that they liked seeing the progress! Thank you @vanillaguard for helping stitch on the skirt lace, and thank you to my sweet husband for sitting with me while I was sewing on lace and giving me moral support and kisses. 💗💗💗💗 Here’s some answers to some FAQ’s -I don’t know how long I spent on the dress. I didn’t keep track, but I started it in November 2017 so my best estimate is over 200 hours. -Yes! There is pink in the skirt. There are two blush chiffon layers underneath an ivory lace layer and ivory chiffon layer. -I did sew all of the lace on by hand and it was probably the worst part. It’s all stitched on with clear thread. -the buttons on the back are not functional. There’s a zipper on the back and silk buttons and elastic button loops conceal the zipper so it only looks like the dress has a button closure. -I didn’t make my belt or hair gems. I haven’t posted much about my wedding dress’s sleeeeeeves, but I absolutely adore them! I used a scalloped lace appliqué at the base of the sleeves to make it look like a cuff. Then on one side of the sleeve cuff I sewed on a like of elasticated button loops, and on the other side was a row of these beeeeaauuutiful silk buttons. Everything was hand stitched and it took me two days to finish, but I couldn’t be happier 😍 I love the romantic and vintage look of the buttons. Only 4 more days 👰🏻🤵🏼 #emsweddingdress

The most important part of making my wedding dress has been RESEARCH! I’ve spent hours scouring Pinterest and bridal sites looking at dresses, and even more time reading and learning about sewing techniques and tools to help me make a sturdy and perfectly fitted gown. I also tried on a few to help inspire the shape of the dress I wanted, because looking a photos will only help you so much. Here are a few favorites that I tried on! #emsweddingdress

I made some mad progress on my wedding dress today! I’ve moved on to using the real fabric and it’s just a joy! It’s coming together just like I imagined! I finished up the huuuuge skirt, made the bodice lining, and stitched the eyelash lace, satin, and stiffener all together so I can sew it all together tomorrow. I’m feeling pretty great 😍 #emsweddingdress

I absolutely LOVE seeing cosplayers as kids! Dress up was a huge part of my childhood and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to carry that into adulthood! Funny story about the first picture: it was Dr. Seuss day at school and my sister was so cute as the cat in hat and I INSISTED on being the Grinch. INSISTED 😂 bless my mom, I was a weird little kid #cosplayersaskids
