Ahhhhhh, I need urgent help in finding a Shane and Ilya fic that I didn't save!
It's one where they're both retired, have three little daughters and suddenly Alexei comes to them and just drops his son Dmitri off with his gay uncle's because Alexei thinks his son is gay. I found the link on insta and didn't save it like a ding dong. I WANNA FINISH IT READING IT
Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
Time for my favorite chart!
Notice billions ain't even on there. Outliers something something.
hmmm

I charge again and implore the AO3 Goddesses for relief and prosperity!
i dont want a childproofed internet i am almost 30 fucking years old. give your kid an internet safety talk and stop making it the problem of every adult on the planet every time some cryptkeeper legislator gets the brilliant idea (via conservative lobbying) to push through yet another bill gutting our access to free expression + increasing the powers of the surveillance state + lining the pockets of Big Data in the name of Protecting The Kids they wont even feed. this shit is exhausting i can’t believe we’re going to be fighting about it for the rest of my life

If you’re suffering from depression and are looking for a sign to not go through with ending your life, this is it. This is the sign. We care.
If you see this on your dash, reblog it. You could save a life.
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
Hey OP? Thank you for articulating something I've been trying to get clear in my own mind for a while now.
it actually makes me ecstatic when I think about how basically pre heated rivalry there were two ways of viewing intimacy coordinators,
1. as an impediment on actors doing their jobs—here an intimacy coordinator is an unnecessary contrivance of a modern age that can’t respect ACTORS enough to let them find the scene. The newfangled intimacy coordinator is taking away the spontaneous nature of sex scenes and destroying real chemistry by disallowing the actors from communicating directly with each other and insisting they interrupt their Craft with questions about safety and consent that go against the immersion necessary to Do The Work
2. as a check on the pervasive violence faced by performers doing intimate scenes—here an intimacy coordinator is something someone WISHED they had after experiencing a traumatic day of shooting. even invoked with the intent of uplifting the work of intimacy coordinators, their role is flattened to actor-attendants, almost always for women, so the performers have someone else to say no for them when (in this understanding of the work) they are inevitably asked to do something beyond their boundaries. an intimacy coordinator is a guard dog, resigned to the idea that violation is an expected part of the system
so to see that the response to EVERY question from EVERY publication about “what makes these sex scenes work SO well???” for connor/hudson/jacob is “we worked through them extensively with our intimacy coordinator to make sure we knew exactly what had to get done and where we had space to play” is like the most perfect and timely response to a discourse that was going in circles every other week. like of COURSE there’s a dimension here not being acknowledged where an intimacy coordinator is A COLLABORATOR, one who has relevant knowledge about what reads on screen and what elevates the scene beyond initial instinct! whose JOB it is to think specifically about Where The Camera Is and What It’s Seeing so everyone else doesn’t have to be choreographing their work around intimacy garments and unpracticed movements. the work proves the worth of it! you don’t have to manifest the Perfect Accident, you can just get an expert on the team and let them do their job!
yes good.
he’s literally him if you care
meanwhile the irony of all the speculation and pressure around the heated rivalry actors’ sexualities is not at all lost on me. like you have a book series and then a tv show adaptation where “coming out is an active threat to your livelihood, which is precarious on the best of days and you will realistically only have said livelihood for like twenty years if everything goes ridiculously well” AND “even if you personally as a public figure are comfortable and willing to take the risk of coming out, you have to consider the impact of that kind of pressure and speculation on your loved ones, including your partner, who will have little shot of anonymity or privacy ever again, before you take that step” are MAJOR THEMES and people take that and go “so why aren’t these public figures who just want to do their jobs telling me every detail of the private lives??” Well, see, you’re not gonna believe this but
Listen, I’m gonna really need y’all to not dump too much money into Montreal Metros merch and for all that is good do not get a Montreal Metros tattoo! Trust me on this one.

If anyone wonders why queer representation matters, all you need to do is look at Heated Rivalry. This show is already changing the way the male sports world sees queerness.
I can’t properly articulate how big a deal that is.
And yeah, this is also why rainbow capitalism matters. No matter how we get that kind of visibility, it can change the world. And we’re so lucky that this time it’s happening with something so positive and so unapologetic.
NO SEE LISTEN OKAY I’M NOT FINISHED!!!!!
IT HASN’T BEEN THAT LONG SINCE SAME SEX MARRIAGES WERE LEGAL IN THE USA!!! IT HASN’T BEEN THAT LONG SINCE VIEWING QUEERNESS AS NORMAL OR POSITIVE!!!! IT HASN’T BEEN THAT LONG SINCE QUEER WOMEN IN SPORTD WEREN’T SEEN AS SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT OR TO EMASCULASTE MEN (AND THIS STILL FUCKING HAPPENS BTW)!!! IT HAS NOT BEEN THAT LONG SINCE QUEER MEDIA AND QUEER REPRESENTATION WERE FOUGHT TO BE KEPT IN THE PRODUCTION AND STUDIOS AND NARRATIVES AND CHARACTER ARCS!!! FOR MOST PAST QUEER MEDIA AND REP YOU DEPENDED ON SUBTEXT AND CODING OR MARKETING BAIT!!!
IT HAS NOT BEEN THAT LONG SINCE POP CULTURE TREATED HOMOPHOBIA AS THE NORM!!! THE AIDS EPIDEMIC WAS ONLY THIRTY YEARS AGO!!! 2017 WAS EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!! THE YEAR GAY MARRIAGE WAS AFFIRMED BY THE SCOTUS WAS IN 2015!! THAT WAS TEN YEARS AGO!!! CANADA LEGALIZED SAMW SEX MARRIAGES NATIONWIDE IN 2005 (ONLY TWENTY YEARS AGO)
these stories, queer centric stories, are important. and dismissing it as some “hockey porn” is a disservice
