How to Draw and Color like Tanaka Strike

I start with a rough drawing. I decide how to express the gestural expressions of each character. This time, I wanted to illustrate like a character selection screen of a fighting game. That kind of Image.

Next is underlining. Paper size is B4, ordinary copy paper. I’d adjust the position of the characters later, so I draw each character separately. I am using a 0.7 mm thick pen.
Paste plain paper on the bottom of the copy paper with tape and trace the base with pen
During inking I mainly use brushes, since I can draw from a thin to a thick line with a single line, I like to use it with various pressure attached. For a Manga Manuscript, I use soft type round pen and G pen for small pictures.
For drawing 4 people, I draw continuously during the midday. Since I adjust the positions and shape later. From here, I will scan and continue my work on a PC.
In Photoshop, after getting rid of the small pieces of garbage on the line art. We apply an undercoat. Change the layer of each part and then apply it. At this point I don’t mind the color. I paint it with easy to see colors.
I’m deciding roughly the position of the shadow of the characters by letting sit side by side. I make a base layer that fills the whole silhouette with beige and add shadow with one color above it. While painting roughly I balance the whole picture.
We prepare the shape of the shadow of each part. Because the pencil tool is easy to use, we use SAI software for this part.
Everyone is now shaded, I also drew the spear for Mahiru.
Go back to Photoshop and decide the colors. Take the selected layer and use the color range made during the prime color coat. Create an adjustment layer to mask and substrate and shadow the hues. I change the saturation and add colors here.
The colors have been decided. Try to align all the characters. Usually when I need to draw various outfits I get very troubled. (laughing)
Go back to SAI. We will color using this program. I am using the watercolor brush tool. The setting is the base setting the program has already made for you. Use the selection tool to range each part and add a gradation with a watercolor brush. First is the, foundation.
I paint the eyes and shadows. Finally I add highlights and adjust the details.
I add a little color to the line drawing, I made the line of the skin part a bit brownish. I made the line for the hair and clothing violet or blue. Completing with the light blue color, blurring over the claws, tails and the fur.
Finally is to use one color to unite the four character. However we’re using different colors for each character this time. Orange for Mahiru, Mikuni gets candy pink, for Tsurugi I use purple and a pink
Placing the characters in Photoshop while thinking of a design you want, prepare the elements you want to put in. Like the Character name or the Character selection.
Since I arrange the characters and this I will make the background myself as well. I’ll do my best. (Usually I leave the background to the designers.)
I applied a gradation of white -> light blue -> black on the back and put a white stripe over there with an opacity of about 60%. We will decorate each element using the layer effect in Photoshop.
I multiplied the diamond shape part for the character selection. In the background i overlay the images with each character on top. Finally I fit the the images of each character into the back square.
