Reading the English volumes of Detective Conan/Case Closed and then sharing my thoughts afterwards. SPOILERS AHEAD Next Volume: 30

It was my birthday month and also I got some really really bad health news this month. I was not feeling the greatest this month and that explains why. I'm taking a lot of medicine right now to try to start feeling better and stop my body from dying essentially.

I'll try to get out at least one volume this month if not two.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 29

Hi, guys! I wanted to get this volume out before the end of the month. I've been dealing with some new health issues, but hopefully I can get everything figured out soon. There's two cases in this volume that I remember very vividly, so I was excited to re-read them and share my thoughts. Click below to read it!

Case #1: The ending to the cliffhanger case from the last volume. Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, Sonoko/Serena, and Conan are helping the police force with the case where young women dressed in a certain fashion are being targeted and beaten with a baseball bat. Sonoko/Serena ends up matching the description by wearing platform shoes and is targeted. Conan figures out who the culprit is and they end up saving Sonoko/Serena in time. 

Case #2: This case opens up with a discussion between Gin, Vodka, and Vermouth, three members of the Black Organization/Syndicate. Later on, Dr Agasa, Conan, Ayumi/Amy, Mitsuhiko/Mitch, Genta/George, and Haibara/Anita are on a bus that is taking them to go skiing. They are joined by Miss Jodie, who is the English teacher at Ran/Rachel’s high school, and Dr Araide, who is a doctor at the high school. There is also a mysterious man with black hair and a cold demeanor. The bus is hijacked by two men in ski outfits and it turns out they are working with a lady chewing gum who is pretending to be a passenger/hostage. With the help of Miss Jodie, Conan is able to make sure everyone gets off the bus before the explosives the hijackers set detonate. The three culprits are arrested, and Haibara/Anita is hidden from the person who is with the Black Organization/Syndicate that was on the bus. 

Case #3: Conan, Anita/Haibara, Ayumi/Amy, Mitsuhiko/Mitch, and Genta/George go with Dr Agasa to visit the son of his friend who has passed away. The son is giving away his father’s belongings. There are 3 dogs, Doyle, Arthur, and Christie. Arthur and Christie are two dogs that love each other. Doyle ends up going missing and the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League end up finding Doyle. Nobody dies and the person who hid Doyle is forgiven. Haibara/Anita is still reeling from the aftermath of being around someone in the Black Organization/Syndicate, but she gets cheered up being around cute dogs. 

Case #4: Heiji/Harley invites Conan to the opening of a new restaurant. Conan is a fan of a soccer player named Ray Curtis who is opening the restaurant with two other athletes. Ran/Rachel, Kogoro/Richard, and Kazuha are there as well. During a special event where they light up the hotel with the letter K by turning on the lights in the rooms, a tabloid writer who made an article with fake gossip about them is shot. Heiji/Harley suggests to Conan that the culprit is Ray, to which Conan gets upset, but then after looking at all the clues realizes Heiji/Harley is right. Conan confronts Ray, who explains that the aftermath of the fake tabloid article led his wife, Keiko, to commit suicide. Ray is having withdrawal from drugs he has been taking after she passed away and lured the tabloid writer to the event to get his revenge. Conan convinces Ray to turn himself in to the police.

Least Favorite Thing:

Inspector McGuire breaking down and yelling at Detective Sato. And also Sonoko/Serena getting attacked by the man who was beating women with a baseball bat. (Sonoko/Serena gets targeted a lot and I feel so bad for her.)

Haibara/Anita freaking out because she senses someone from the Black Organization/Syndicate on their bus.

Most Favoritest Thing:

Conan saving Haibara/Anita from the bus explosion when she wanted to stay on it and end her life. He also implies that she shouldn't run away and she's appreciative that he saved her.

The Detective Boys/Junior Detective League being happy that Haibara/Anita was smiling again and trying to find a way to cheer her up. (I really loved the case with the doggos. It was a breathe of fresh air. I love cases where nobody ends up dying.)

Funniest Moment:

Haibara/Anita saying she can sniff out members of the Black Organization/Syndicate and Conan saying that he doesn't think she stinks.

Kazuha thinking Heiji/Harley is having an affair, but really he's just been calling Conan/Shinichi/Jimmy.

Saddest Moment:

Conan yelling at Heiji/Harley because he doesn't want Ray to be the murderer. And Heiji/Harley giving him advice, even though it's difficult.

Conan confronting Ray and discussing his drug addiction/withdrawal and convincing Ray to turn himself in.

I honestly think it would be really difficult to confront one of your idols like this, but I'm proud of Conan/Shinichi/Jimmy for being able to.

Cutest Moment:

Inspector McGuire saving Sonoko/Serena and also the ending with Inspector McGuire and his wife. It was really cute.

Favorite Case:

The case where Conan confronted Ray and Heiji/Harley cheered him up afterwards. I love Heiji/Harley and Conan's relationship so much.

Favorite Character:

Ran/Rachel! The fact that she remembered Shinichi/Jimmy was a fan of Ray Curtis and was bold enough to ask for an autograph from him. I love her so much. She's really sweet. Welp, that's it for Volume 29! I will see you guys next month with Volume 30. Thanks for reading. Take care of yourselves!

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 28

Hey there, people! Welcome to Volume 28 of Detective Conan/Case Closed. I wanted to get this posted before the month ended where I am. This month flew by. I'll try my best to get the next volume posted sooner in the month.

As a Trigger Warning, I will talk briefly about and show a panel of animal cruelty in this volume and also mention suicide. If you need to skip it for your mental health please do so.

Let's get started with Detective Conan Volume 28.

Case #1: Finishing off with Conan, Dr Agasa, and the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League with a mystery in the woods. Haibara/Anita and Mitch/Mitsuhiko have been separated from the group fearing that the person who shot the body they found is coming after them. Conan's group includes three hunters, one of them is the person who shot the body. Case #2: Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan accompany a lady named Ikenami to her old high school friend's apartment. There they find he has been murdered and end up solving the case. Case #3: Heiji/Harley and Kazuha go with Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel and Conan to an island where a festival is taking place that involves three arrows. Heiji/Harley tells Conan that he received a letter addressed to Shinichi/Jimmy to solve the case. Three women end up murdered and Conan manages to solve the case. There's also talk of immortality as well.

Case #4: There is a string of women being physical assaulted by someone with a metal bat. Thankfully the first three women were only injured, but Ran/Rachel comes across the fourth woman murdered in a mall parking garage. Inspector Meguire seems to have a personal involvement in this particular case.

Least Favorite Thing:

Heiji/Harley and Kazuha almost falling to their deaths. Also, Kazuha stabbing Heiji/Harley with an arrow so he'll let go of her. Girl, what? I still have no idea how they survived this, but I'm glad they did!

Most Favoritest Thing:

Ikenami, who turns out to be Heiji/Harley's mom, telling the murderer/Kyoko that taking any life is murder, even if it's her own.

(On a personal note, I remember reading this case when I was very suicidal and this really struck me. For some reason the thought of murdering yourself seemed very cruel to me. So I worked hard to learn to love myself and be kind to myself instead of hating myself to the point of wanting to end everything.)

Funniest Moment:

Kogoro/Richard complimenting Ikenami and Ran/Rachel reminding him of his wife Eri/Eva that he's separated from. This was really entertaining to me, lol. Saddest Moment:

One of the hunters' luring the mama bear by killing/hanging her cub for bait. The other hunter shot him and then took the cub down and buried it. This was very sad to me.

Cutest Moment:

Mitsuhiko/Mitch providing first aid and bandaging up Hairbara/Anita's ankle. It was very cute.

(I don't know if I've said it before, but I would totally ship them if there wasn't a huge age gap and Mitsuhiko/Mitch wasn't actually a minor atm. Maybe in the future they could work out, but for now I just think they're cute as kids.)

Favorite Case:

Conan with Heiji/Harley along with Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Kazuha at the Mermaid Island. I love when there are cases with all of them together.

Favorite Character:

It has to be Heiji/Harley. He has some great lines in this volume, and so does his mom! I love how Heiji/Harley talks about life being valuable because it's short. I also think it's really adorable when he says that he has to protect Kazuha. I love them so much.

Volume 28 Foreshadowing

Just finished reading Detective Conan/Case Closed Volume 28, which will be posted soon, but I saw these panels which foreshadows the Black Organization/Syndicate working on the drug that gives the user immortality/the ability to look younger. I thought it was really interesting.

Why should Haibara/Anita be interested in this? I love how he brushes it off here, lol.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 27

Hello, people! Sorry I have been MIA. I moved to a different state and was sorting out several different medical issues. I am doing okay now, but still chronically ill. I'm about two months later than I thought I would be, but here is Volume 27! Honestly, I read this manga volume two months ago and took all the pictures, so I'm going to try to remember what happened.

Case #1: Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan are on vacation at a beach/hotel. There they run into Kogoro/Richard's estranged wife Eri/Eva. Eri/Eva is on a trip with her coworkers from her law firm. Kogoro/Richard is framed for murder, and they have to solve the case to prove his innocence.

Case #2: Ayumi/Amy notices a man committing arson and goes with the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League to give them a description of what he looks like. Detective Sato, Detective Takagi, and Detective Shiratori, along with the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League go out to try and arrest the arsonist. It is also the anniversary of when Detective Sato's father died 18 years earlier.

Case #3: Sonoko/Serena, Ran/Rachel, and Conan head to an arcade. There they meet Ms Jodie, Sonoko/Serena and Ran/Rachel's new English teacher. Someone ends up getting murdered and they have to solve the case. Case #4: This case leaves off on a cliffhanger. Dr Agasa takes the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League to go camping. They end up at a campsite where hunting is allowed past a certain fenced area. While searching for Genta/George, Haibara/Anita and Mitsuhiki/Mitch stumble upon and dead body and are shot at. Conan pieces together what is happening and is searching for them both with Dr Agasa, Genta/George, and Ayumi/Amy.

Least Favorite Thing:

Richard being accused of murder. I don't think she expected it to escalate that much (or to die), but it was still very petty.

Most Favoritest Thing:

Conan taking out a guy with a trash can. It was really funny.

Funniest Moment:

Conan yelling at the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League. Saddest Moment:

Detective Takagi getting hit in the head and being handcuffed where another fire is starting.

Cutest Moment:

Kogoro/Richard telling Eri/Eva that he would like her to come back. And Eri/Eva recording him saying that and then replaying it.

Also, I don't ship them at the moment because Haibara/Anita is like 18 and Mitsuhiko/Mitch is like 7, but I think Mitsuhiko/Mitch having a crush on Haibara/Anita is cute. If they were actually the same age I would totally ship them.

Favorite Case:

Funnily enough, it's the case that takes place at the arcade. I thought it was really unique and I didn't remember this one. It was pretty interesting.

Favorite Character:

Detective Takagi! I love how he didn't shoot through the handcuffs because they had belonged to Detective Sato's father before he passed away. He is so thoughtful and I love him. Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 26: Part 3

Favorite Case:

The case that takes place during Ran/Rachel’s school play. (Also, she looks so pretty in that dress! Even Shinichi/Jimmy tells her that.)

Favorite Character:

It’s my boy! Shinichi/Jimmy!

I just love how Anita is like “Shinichi/Jimmy you idiot.” Everyone is shocked that he showed up and I love it. (Although he was not supposed to make a huge scene.)

(Also, after this Conan demands more of the antidote and Haibara/Anita is like “absolutely not.”)

Shinichi/Jimmy saying that he still doesn’t understand why one person would kill another person.

And Conan stating that Shinichi/Jimmy asked Ran/Rachel to wait for him. (In which she later tells Conan that she’s not Shinichi/Jimmy’s mother and he shouldn’t expect her to wait around for him.)

That’s it for this volume! Again, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get this out sooner due to my health issues, but I’m glad I was able to get it out now. I will upload Volume 27 in May. Stay safe, guys!

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 26: Part 2

Funniest Moment (cont.)

Haibara/Anita, as Conan, brought Kogoro/Richard to the Baker Building during Shinichi/Jimmy and Ran/Rachel’s “date” because she figured Shinichi/Jimmy would turn back into Conan. But Kogoro/Richard has just been waiting for forever, lol.

Saddest Moment:

The Detective Boys/Junior Detective League not recognizing Shinichi/Jimmy because they just know Conan. (Also, Anita as Conan is like, what are you doing?)

Ran/Rachel being upset that Shinichi/Jimmy keeps running off. (In his defense, he turned back into Conan.)

Cutest Moment:

Ran/Rachel sleeping next to Conan on his hospital bed after she gave him a bunch of blood.

Ran/Rachel admitting to Shinichi/Jimmy that she thought he was Conan the whole time and having a pretty solid reason as to why. (She just pretends not to know. The patience this girl has is astounding.)

Ran/Rachel eating dessert with Conan after Shinichi/Jimmy left. Apparently she had like five desserts! (Also, Kogoro/Richard is still waiting, lol.)

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 26: Part 1

Hi, guys! I’m sorry for the absence this month. I’m having health issues that are getting progressively worse. I’m going to be moving to another state to help with my recovery in the next few months, so I will be taking a break from uploading until May. I wanted to make sure I got this volume uploaded first though. Thank you for your patience.

Case #1: This case follows a school play at Shinichi/Jimmy, Ran/Rachel, and Sonoko/Serena’s high school. Ran/Rachel is also convinced that Conan is Shinichi/Jimmy. A doctor is poisoned during the school play.

Case #2: Shinichi/Jimmy asks Ran/Rachel to dinner at the Baker Building to tell her something important. He is interrupted by the sounds of a murder case and Ran/Rachel tells him to go help solve it. The department head of a game company has been murdered and Shinichi/Jimmy helps Inspector McGuire solve the case.

Case #3: Conan, Kogoro/Richard, and Ran/Rachel go with a woman named Haruna to find the owner of someone who has been talking with her through pager messages. It turns out the owner was a old man who passed away, but gifted Haruna a music box. They stay with his family and solve the puzzle of why he left her the music box. (Also, nobody dies!)

Least Favorite Moment:

Conan decided to tell Ran/Rachel the truth, that he is Shinichi/Jimmy. However, Anita shows up and reminds him just how serious that would be given that the Syndicate/Black Organization would be after him. She gives him three options.

Most Favoritest Thing:

Shinichi/Jimmy showing up and acting as the knight in the play Ran/Rachel is in

Sonoko/Serena is so funny because she told Shinichi/Jimmy to kiss Ran/Rachel as part of the play. (But they are interrupted by murder!)

I just really love this image of Shinichi/Jimmy looking at evidence/the crime scene dressed as the knight.

Ran/Rachel telling Shinichi/Jimmy to go help solve the case (We love a supportive queen.)

Funniest Moment:

Heiji telling Conan that they’re like blood brothers because they’ve both been shot in the gut.

Kazuha figuring Heiji’s disguise since he went to the school play dressed as Shinichi/Jimmy. (This is not the last time he dresses as Shinichi/Jimmy.)

Sonoko/Serena saying that Shinichi/Jimmy is still full of himself after he reveals himself to everyone. (I laughed out loud at this part.)

Shinichi/Jimmy telling Ran/Rachel to hold his hand when they’re crossing the street because he’s used to doing that as Conan.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Volume 25: Part 4

Favorite Case:

The case with the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League.

Favorite Character:

Ran/Rachel. Earlier in the ice skating case Conan makes a point to show he can’t skate.

Later on when he hears Sonoko/Serena scream, he’s able to skate over to the women’s bathroom with no problems. And Ran/Rachel notices.

After Conan gets shot they don’t have enough blood to go through with his operation, but Ran/Rachel immediately knows they have the same blood type.

She knows Conan is Shinichi/Jimmy.

And this is the reason for the Desperate Revival case.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Volume 25: Part 3

Cutest Moment:

Makoto finally calling Sonoko/Serena and reminding her not to wear short skirts.

Shinichi/Jimmy sending Ran/Rachel a cell phone as a thank you gift. (She finally has a cell phone from Shinichi/Jimmy!)

This whole interaction between Heiji/Harley and Kazuha, lol.

Ayumi/Amy hugging Haibara/Anita after they escaped the cave. (Genta/George got shot in the leg while carrying Conan.)

Detective Conan/Case Closed Volume 25: Part 2

Funniest Moment:

Sonoko/Serena teasing Ran/Rachel about Shinichi/Jimmy being her hubby.

Heiji/Harley throwing his helmet at a truck and the truck driving back to him, only for him to get yelled at by Kogoro/Richard. (They keep meeting like this, lol.)

Heiji/Harley calling Conan his assistant.

Saddest Moment:

Conan getting shot while protecting the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League.

And getting a significant gut wound in the process.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 25: Part 1

Hey, guys! Sorry for the delay again. I’ve been dealing with a significant medical issue. But here’s the next volume! I’m excited because we’re so close to the Desperate Revival case.

Trigger Warning: This volume talks a lot about suicide. It’s a prevalent plot point in the first two cases.

Case #1: Ran/Rachel, Sonoko/Serena, and Conan go ice skating at Tropical Land. They meet a group that had gone hunting earlier that day. One of the members of their group is shot in the bathroom while the Tropical Land fireworks go off.

Case #2: Heiji/Harley and Kazuha are lost on a road when they meet up with Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan who are also traveling to the same place. Heiji/Harley got a letter to come to the house. The house has a reputation and is called The Spider House of Karakuri Pass. Three years earlier two women hung themselves in the spider shed, and now another person was found hung in the shed as well. And while the group is there another person is found hung as well.

Case #3: Conan is suspicious that Ran/Rachel had caught on to his identity as Shinichi/Jimmy. While on a camping trip with Doc Agasa, Haibara/Anita, and the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League, Conan ends up getting shot when they enter a cave and stumble upon a group of bank robbers throwing away the dead body of one of their partners who had been spotted. Conan has to help the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League find an exit to the cave while suffering from the gunshot wound.

Least Favorite Thing:

This man named Robert, who ended up being the murderer, accidentally told Misa, one of the women who committed suicide three years previously, to “kill herself” due to a language miscommunication.

Most Favoritest Thing:

Ran/Rachel saying that Shinichi/Jimmy always seems to be watching over her.

Genta/George carrying Conan after he’s been shot.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Volume 24: Part 4

Favorite Case:

The Black Organization/Syndicate case with Gin.

I almost didn’t pick this one because it was really difficult for me to read, but I do think any plot progression with the Black Organization/Syndicate is a win in Detective Conan/Case Closed. Also, we found out that Gin’s name is actually Gin instead of Melkior, lmao. That really bothered me when they changed his name.

Favorite Character:

Conan. (I didn’t think it would be him but it was.) He did a really good job protecting Haibara/Anita. (Even though he sort of dragged her into the situation in the first place.) And look he put his jacket over her so she would have something to wear! Very mindful.

I appreciate his determination to take down the Black Organization/Syndicate. Also, look at Haibara/Anita, poor girlie. 😭😭😭 I’m so glad she’s okay, but damn. Gin shot her a ton of times.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 24: Part 3

Cutest Moment:

Takagi remembering Sato telling him she believes in him.

Sato talking about how Inspector McGuire reminds her of her late father. (I am also a daddy’s girl, so this is very cute.)

Ran/Rachel asking Dr Araide if she can borrow his sweater.

So that she can knit a sweater for Shinichi/Jimmy.

Then Conan is wearing the sweater and Kogoro/Richard is wearing the sweater from his wife, Eri/Eva.

Instead of getting angry at Haibara/Anita for her outburst they ask her where she’s coming from and try to understand. They show their support.

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 24: Part 2

Most Favoritest Thing:

Conan climbs on top of the police car.

And knocks Doc Agasa out so he doesn’t blow up the art museum because Detective Sato and the innocent man she’s handcuffed with are stuck in there.

Funniest Moment:

Look at Conan’s face, lmao.

His jealousy makes him unable to focus, lol.

Saddest Moment:

Sherry getting shot by Gin up on a rooftop. (She had nightmares about this and it actually happened.)

Gin is creepy and the way he acts towards Sherry makes my skin crawl.

(Also should add, she had to escape a room and ended up drinking the same alcohol Shinichi/Jimmy drank as Conan that turned him back into Shinichi/Jimmy the first time. But it only lasts a very very short time.)

Detective Conan/Case Closed Read Through Volume 24: Part 1

Hi, guys! I’m so sorry for the delay in posting. I’m currently preparing for a Hurricane and my Birthday is tomorrow, so I’ve been very busy.

This volume deals with PTSD/complex PTSD, which I have. It wasn’t until getting diagnosed that I began to understand the complexity of Haibara/Anita’s reactions when it comes to the Black Organization/Syndicate. Trauma sucks but it doesn’t mean anybody is less of a person because of it.

Case #1: This case is the ending to the cliffhanger from the last volume. Detective Takagi goes with the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League to find the real killer and prove the framed man is innocent. Detective Sato accidentally handcuffed herself with the innocent man in an art museum.

Case #2: Kogoro/Richard goes with Ran/Rachel and Conan to see his doctor, Dr Yoshiteru Araide. They meet Dr Araide’s son, who is also a doctor, Tomoaki Araide. It turns out Ran/Rachel knows him because he is a substitute coach for the basketball team at her high school.

Case #3: Conan and Haibara/Anita find Gin’s parked car and Conan bugs it with a listening device. They follow Vodka and Gin to a hotel where an assassination is going to take place. Gin is aware that Haibara/Anita, codename Sherry, will be following because he found a strand of her strawberry blonde hair in his car and mentions APTX 4869, the drug that she had been involved in creating, while Conan was listening in. (Gin found the bug and crushed it so he knew someone was listening in.) Also, Haibara/Anita had a nightmare about Gin finding her.

Least Favorite Thing:

Rachel being distracted and not listening to Conan.

Haibara/Anita having a PTSD/complex PTSD flashback and then yelling at Ayumi/Amy. Also, her wishing she could just vanish. (I can relate to this and it is the absolute worst.)

Conan telling Haibara/Anita to “shut up” after she tells him how dangerous following/listening to Gin is.

Haibara/Anita having more PTSD/complex PTSD triggers/reactions. Luckily, Conan is looking out for her and even says she’s not being herself.

Conan brings this up later but does anyone have any idea why Conan’s tranquilizer dart didn’t knock Gin out?

And why Gin proceeded to SHOOT HIMSELF IN THE ARM? Because I am confusion.

It is pretty metal though, but it just confuses the hell out of me. Even when I read it for the first time I was like, “Sir? Are you okay?”

(On second thought maybe he was just in a rage because he was interrupted with Sherry and that’s why he did it.)
