The leaves of salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis) resemble butterfly wings and when held correctly even flutter like the real thing. You can use this beautiful image to distinguish salmonberry from other similar species like thimbleberry and blackberry. Discovery Park, Seattle, Washington.

Okay wow
I didn't give a hoot last night but since it's a new day: I want to spend this year actively trying to finish what I've started, reach out more, challenge myself in new ways and to do things that I know have made me feel more whole in the past. Also, letting go of all the weird things I think I owe people/society/ whatever. Oh also I'm trying to run a full marathon this month but idk if I'll get all the way through it. See first goal I guess.

among bioluminescent organisms, fungi are the most rare and least well understood. only 71 of the more than 100,000 described fungal species emit a bioluminescent light, which, it is believed, serves to attract insects who then spread the fungal spores around. click pic for the four species seen here. photos by taylor lockwood, lance aardvaarkau, steve axford, and nicky bay
