when people get hurt, the easy response is to assign blame and punishment. the hard response is to analyze what events led to someone getting hurt and prevent those circumstances from forming again. you cant take back anything, cant undo a single event. no amount of punishment will make a wrong right. no accidental death can be undone by a new warning sign. blame brigades, whisper campaigns, callout posts, all serve to punish, to 'hold people accountable'. none of that has ever materially helped a victim, and its ridiculous to believe their claims of caring about victims justifies their actions.

"I'm worried about butchering the pronounciation" So there's this cool thing called a search engine. Or youtube. Or you can just you know, politely ask the person. Use that girl's ethnic name and don't try to shorten it without permission

Like I promise you, even if you fuck up the pronunciation we will still appreciate the effort infinitely more than if you just don't even bother. Because it shows that you're willing to try and respect us and our names! And we can correct you if you mess it up and you can know for next time!!

Some of these additions in the tags and reblogs really break my heart honestly. Seeing so many girls swap out their ethnic names for something that caters more to western sensibilities. Like I get it and in no world would I berate you for it, it's so infuriating that so many people can't show basic respect for things outside their own culture and I totally get not wanting to deal with it constantly. It's just so upsetting that these girls feel the need to change their names, not because they don't like them, but because 90% of westerners can't be bothered to humanize these girls with their actual names.

Use that girl's ethnic name. Make her feel more human because of her name, not in spite of it.
