Nettle has had a crush on Conifer, high school quarterback and prom king three years running, since she was thirteen and he protected her from a football hurtling towards her face. She even joins the cheer squad so she can be closer to him. But he never even looks at her. When she gets invited to his 16th birthday blowout, she thinks her dream’s come true at last. But it turns out that the popular kids never thought she fit in, and they’re planning to humiliate her in front of everyone to teach her a lesson.

Evengleam knows exactly how fickle the popular crowd is, because she used to be one of them. Until they turned on her when she was outed, and she became a disgraced outcast overnight. Now, her only friends are Murkmere and Loveday, who own their status as social pariahs, while Evengleam just wants to hide in the theater’s costume department and forget about it. But she keeps running into this annoying little ex-cheerleader while she’s trying to sneak a cigarette backstage, and realizes that maybe she has more in common with Nettle than she thinks.

Can the jaded Evengleam help Nettle to navigate her own fall from grace? Can Nettle finally be her true self, and find friends who like her for who she actually is…. and maybe even true love?

There are so many interesting, complex characters, especially strong female characters, in DCG that actually deserve the attention, and all you’re doing is trolling about the worst two-dimensional villains you can find. They are never going to get a redemption arc because they’re completely unimportant to the plot and you’re wasting your time obsessing about them.

Ok like I know the fandom has taken off running with Nettle and Duke!Lazarus because tumblr has never seen a sociopath they didn’t turn into a poor little meow meow, but like… honestly still better than Conifer?? Like thank god we’re finally getting fic writers focusing on something other than “endgame” for my girl because hey news flash guys? It’s not a healthy relationship?? At All?? Like evershipping is not a happy ending you guys, I can’t stress that enough!! Because Nettle’s got an unhealthy idealization of this man, and Conifer is a fucking idiot. Either willfully ignoring every goddamn signal she’s putting out, or as dense as a christmas fruitcake. Like this man survived a horrific war but he can’t say “Hi mom I’m an adult and I get to make my own choices?” Nah, this ain’t it. I know we’re all laughing about the antics at the trial, but seriously is anyone thinking about Phoebe? She’s still reeling from the huge shock of seeing her brother turn into a monster while everyone is having a good time like they don’t care. Only Etherton even tried to comfort her. Just a few days ago she was basically the most admired person at the gala, she had a title and handsome, powerful duke in love with her. And now she has to sit and listen to the woman who tried to frame her for a crime argue with a gossiping asshole, while her former brother sits right there in front of her. Like he’s taunting her. It’s absolutely breaking my heart thinking about what her reaction is going to be when she sees those letters. Even though it’s an obvious plant by the Red Duke because there’s no way those letters would just happen to be sitting out right there for Elijah to conveniently find, it’s got to sting. I seriously hope something good happens to Phoebe to make up for it. For now I’m just going to rewatch her and the duke of Etherton’s adorable conversation in the gardens again.

I can’t believe how hard everyone is trying to ignore the incredibly obvious chemistry between Elijah and Nick. Right from the first night it was obvious that there was a strong bond of mutual respect and affection between them. I mean, Elijah was the first person to receive a token, and from who? NICK. And he’s still hanging onto it too, almost like he values it way too much to burn it.

Elijah’s the only one who consistently calls Nick by his preferred name, when his boss and his literal fellow bodyguard both called him by his full name, even though he hates it.The first letter Elijah sent him, he called him Nick and signed it with his name. Not his title. His name. That’s a huge gesture from the son of a duke to invite a non-noble soldier who’s way below him in social status to call him by his first name. Right from the beginning!

Don’t even get me started on that duel. You could tell that neither of them wanted to fight it and they were both in agony over it. Elijah has such a sexy protective streak, just like Nick, and he only gets that angry about people he cares about. And he. Was. Pissed. And then Nick deliberately threw the fight and let Elijah beat the shit out of him because he didn’t want to hurt him, even though he got in serious trouble for it. And Elijah cares so much about his skill and hates being seen as incompetent (you know he must have gotten so many people assuming he wasn’t as good with a sword anymore because of his hand), but he still surrendered because he wanted to leave Nick his honor. Which other ships constantly have them bringing out the best sides of each other like these two do?

And when the Red Duke showed up, what happened? Nick gets Noel behind him and Elijah steps up to get between them. Immediately. Like I said, protective streak! I think there’s definitely going to be a moment where the Red Duke threatens Noel (big mistake) and we see Elijah and Nick team up and kick his ass (and maybe finally acknowledge their feelings for each other?)

How many slash fics do you think are gonna pair ElijahXLazarus vs FyodorXLazarus? Asking for a friend.

Ooh, good question. Right now Elijah's really popular, but a lot of that is people taking the crackfic challenge to see how many people they can convincingly ship him with. But the key word here is "convincingly" and I know it's definitely awoken something in more than a few shippers who are now crying over the lack of ElijahXLucien content. He's already got kind of a fire theme going too, and there's lots of potential for ElijahXpre-Duke!Lazarus sadboy fic because let's be honest, they are both so good at brooding.

But, let's not discount Fyodor just yet. Even if you're not a furry, he's got that Egyptian god style thing going on and if perfectly normal people are allowed to get thirsty over Anubis then he's fair game. He's got fierce competition from FyodorXBluebell, FyodorXJules, FyodorXPhoebe, and the small but growing FyodorXNoel contingent though. I've already seen one AU where Duke!Lazarus is a powerful but lonely millionaire businessman and Fyodor is the donor manager at a nonprofit trying to secure a donation from his company, so the potential is clearly there.
