Coming in second after a hard-fought final is Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, and winning the bronze medal match by a healthy margin is Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.
In total, Carmen accrued 1311 votes across six rounds of voting. It started the bracket strongly with a bye to the round of 64, and immediately took out Les enfant et les sortileges with a whopping 93% of the vote. It then defeated Il trovatore in the last 32, which was the poll with the most votes in that round (303). In the last 16 it left Lucia di Lammermoor in the dust, and there was an all-Seville showdown with Carmen beating The Barber of Seville in the quarter finals. The semifinals were closer, with Carmen facing off against another Sevillian baddie, Don Giovanni. The final was poised at 50/50 with only a few hours to go, and finally finished on 51% in favour of Carmen.
