thinkin about Neon J & Eve today (as always) so now tumblr gets my notes i've had in my brain & yelled over discord many a time... hooray !!! all my thoughts under the read more (and ignore how messy they are lol) :
I wouldn't call J and Eve "besties" but they're absolutely more than acquainted for two reasons:
1. the first two to join NSR under Tatiana
2. unspoken but understood common issues
They are tatiana's defense first and foremost ... Eve is her right hand woman, of course, but J is her line of defense i like to think, so they're both important to her. As such, they've known each other longer than the other elites have known one another, and they work well together. Their districts are next to one another, and they understand that they hold powers & privileges the other 3 charters do not.
HOWEVER, AND MORE IMPORTANT AND MORE #CHARACTER DRIVEN - I feel they share a certain sort of feelings towards themselves. I don't want to say "body image" issues but something of that sort ?? but they've clearly both got hang-ups about the way they are / look. A similar sort of dysmorphia 🙂↕️
Neon J has obviously been cyborg'ed and maybe has had a great deal of conflict about that + Eve has always had issues concerning herself and her body (her skin condition, especially when younger). As of NSR, the game, they're both much more comfortable in themselves and how the world at large sees them AND how they see themselves - Neon J is hellbent on the world seeing him as he is (a cyborg!) and Eve has accepted herself as "odd" even if that is a very lonesome feeling. I think this shared commonality gives them something to connect over, even if not in the same ways. Eve clearly still has issues within herself that need solving, but those are more mental. I do think though that Neon J is a mentor & friend of sorts, and while not quite understanding of her art and how she sees the world (she is up in the clouds, mental while he is practical, grounded & logical) he understands that much like him, she has her music & visions to share with the world.
(I should also add these issues are like completely unspoken, they are never close enough to delve into massive detail about it but they both sorta go Yeah.... No Wonder We're Both Indebted To Tatiana)
BUT! despite this sense of
They're both very supportive of one another & he's very much a cheerleader for her!! One of the first to arrive for art gallery openings, willing to hear out her long-winded and metaphorical stories about her art (even if he doesn't quite get them) and she in turn sees him as a trusted ally, respectable and worth being as high up as he is, sometimes listening to his war stories as she works on projects (even if she doesn't quite pick up every single piece of information he's giving her and more so uses him as background noise)
As for negatives, though, there's definitely something to be said i think too about how Eve would respect NJ but would hate 1010's inauthenticity. She is very "I understand what you're going through and while i understand it was Tatiana that gave you these bots to repurpose... it's all very shallow." + likely dislikes the cookie cutter romance they depict and sell.
On his end, he likely pities her in a way he'd never say out loud, worried about her way more than he ever should be. Eve would likely HATE being pitied as well, so it's an unspoken feeling he has towards her.
But overall, while Eve has Tatiana to look up to for guidance more so than NJ, he is not a bad person to share a title of sorts with and they absolutely get along 🙂↕️
