Friends of Type it’s a collaborative group composed by four integrants, JASON WONG, DENNIS PAYONGAYONG and ERIK MARINOVICH, just like a boy band, they explore their personal view and utilization of letters and type. It’s a great site for finding visual references.

I love type. I love illustration. That is simply why is decided to create an illustrated alphabet utilizing the letters as a blueprint and combining organic forms with geometrical forms.

Podcast: the new module for the learning process

I don’t have time to read the amount I would like to read it. My life splits into college, internship, and work, so at least 60 hours of my week I’m totally busy. To keep track with the news I started listening podcasts related to design because allows me to keep doing whatever I’m doing and use only the hear sense expand my knowledge.

Study = Fun

I love to study, my favorite themes are science, phycology, history, and design, just buy that is possible to see my preference for the interaction. But I don’t want to talk about me in this post, I just want to share some site I access to improve my skill and develop new ones, technical or logical.

Ted is a classical “fast food” knowledge, I don’t see that as a bad thing, I see that as a great thing because I know I’m not able to know deeply about everything but I do enjoy to knowing a bit of everything to expand my creativity.  

99u is my everyday design dose, full of articles talking about creative process, interview with important designers and even with a compilation of videos recorded on their conferences.

Typo is an event but on the site, it’s possible to find the archive of all the recorded presentations in the past conferences.

Intern very similar to the site 99u, the intern magazine concentrate at talk about the young generation of creatives.

Visual Mentors

I want to take this post today to share some Instagram of studios and designer that I get many of my visual inspirations. 

They are just visually stunning 

Colletivo: For me, this studio, in particular, have a special place in my heart, because of them I decided to follow the path as a graphic designer after watching the speech they gave in Londrina 2009. At that day I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Vault49: Vault is just one of those studios that are just brilliant in every aspect! My dream job <3

Snask:  The studio that is funny and competent, they subvert expectations about how to communicate, they are bold and can talk about controversial things without offending, actually they do the opposite, making you create empathy with a little bit of laugh without denigrating anyone.

I walk outside and I see typography everywhere. New York City is a city of signs. Sometimes things are written by hand, mismatched, hung up in some peculiar way. You think, “Oh my God, can I get up there and please readjust that sign? That’s just absolutely awful” The way numbers are on doors. No two the same down the block. All messages are different, and they’re everywhere. Typography is painting with words. That is my biggest high. It’s my crack.

Lessons from the Queen of Graphic Design

Assignment 3: A visual storytelling journey representing by four words.

Joy

The night starts full of happiness and joy in the pub that is visually welcoming whoever is willing to have a fell pints and good laughs.

Safe

As the night is dark and cold any light that permits the visualize one of the paths it’s been following and the things have around transmitted the sense on of safety on a not so tranquility environment.

Danger

But in a brief moment before the journey to home gets an end there is the need to cross a park without lights, it’s not possible to see anything clearly only slight lights coming from the other side, aiming for the danger to be gone.

Anger

The night finish with the anger sense on as the phone hit the floor before arriving home and get totally destroyed.

The final poster for the Visual Communication assignment. This project problematic was created a poster for a band utilizing only typography with geometric shapes to help structure the information. At first, I was planning develop only one option, with a grey background and red, blue and yellow as main colors for the types to represent the common paints present on the walls of Latino America. But looking to the vibrant colors of Cuba, the band country of origin I decide to create more 4 posters to personify the energy present in their music.

Two weeks ago I start my internship at the wonderful agency EightyTwenty. Be able to work around so many talented creatives is an incredible experience!

Cover Analysis

What you would expect from any big newspaper, serious and maybe graphically boring right? That is not the case with this cover design created for the Washington Post by Snask. At the first moment, your eyes catch the front page of the magazine released on 7th June 2015 you notice a fun, tactile and entertaining image. This cover made me intrigued when I saw it and it got my attention for the following reasons:

The first impressions are related to the different forms, shapes, textures and extravagant colors creating a playness atmosphere;

The disposer of the letters are on a non-linear grid spared in 3 columns reinforcing the feeling of fun;

All pieces are handmade allowing a more informal communication with the reader;

Understanding that the word write is Favourites makes realize that  each shape/form use a different material to express different topics the reader will encounter inside the magazine;

The fact this cover is so surprising by subvert the design tone usually used on newspaper magazines, ended up creating a piece of design that differentiate the product from the competitors as also shows how with the right theme/subject you can incorporate different forms to share/spread information even when they are not associate with that type of media to produce a successful piece of design.
