ARIANA: When Felicia came to me with the idea for Opulence, I was really excited about it -- I thought that it was an innovative, unique idea that could really become something in the right hands. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention lately that those hands simply are not mine; and that I cannot dedicate the time required to run this game in the way it deserves to be run, nor play this character in a way that does the talent in the rest of the group justice. I really love this idea, I'm really proud of this group, and I am especially in awe of the people in it ( even if I've only known you for a short while ). Sadly, in the end I've simply had to prioritise real life obligations, i.e. job hunting and trying-to-figure-out-what-to-do-with-my-life-ness ( I wish I didn't have to become an adult, but alas, it is inevitable ). I just want to say that you are all ridiculously fantastic writers and roleplayers and I wish you all the best of luck in the future. I'll check Jonathan's account for the next few days if any of you want to get in touch and exchange information / personals / writing blogs. <3
FELICIA: Opulence was my baby from the start – The interest for the group and the idea formed when I was away in a land far off with my darling Ariana. We have worked on it, put in countless of ideas and have many saved in the drafts. However, shortly after Opulence opened old demons from the past and university came to haunt me. It was with a sad realisation when I finally realised that my reason for taking ages with replies to all you wonderful players stemmed from anxiety ( and this also made me realise that maybe I should not be in any groups other than 1x1 or maybe a little bit bigger ). That, mingled with a crazy social life, tons of university work ( I graduate in June! ) and personal reasons caused for me to become not only a horrible admin but also a really bad player. & I am incredibly sorry for that, and what it has led to. It does not hit you immediately. No, it starts slowly — a tingling sensation in the very tips of your fingers, a slight haze in the corner of your eyes, a little slower reflexes, a little looser lips. For a second, you look down at the drink in your hands, convinced that the amount of alcohol you have consumed does not warrant the reaction both your body and brain are having. Your movements become more fluid, almost instinctual; your thoughts grow less inhibited. One might say that you have been… Unleashed.
Unbeknownst to the guests, the champagne served at the Rosier dinner party has been spiked with a magical potion — the main effect of which is to lessen inhibitions. The drug takes a while to work its way into the consumer’s system, but once it has, it is known to be twice as potent as alcohol. Who could possibly be responsible for the tainted champagne? More importantly, how will its influence affect everybody’s behaviour?
Remember, the event will go on until Saturday, February 7th, after which characters will be permitted to interact freely. However, should you wish to continue any paras from the dinner party past that point, this will also be allowed.
Are you happy with the activity level of your players?
Overall -- yes, we are! Opulence is a small, primarily para-driven group, and as such we do not expect the dash to move at the same pace that it might elsewhere. Furthermore, we feel that we ( meaning both we as admins and we as members ) are all still getting to know each other and in that stage of finding our footing with the setting and with our characters.
Last but not least, the writing we have seen churned out on the dash is absolutely breathtaking, and more than anything we feel incredibly blessed to have such talented people here. With time, we think that we have a chance to turn this group into something truly great!
I'm sorry if I understood uncorrectly, but - you don't plan on adding more open characters, right? Just semi-OCs that your players can take as their second characters?
Due to the interest in the group — which we are truly, sincerely, flattered and heartwarmed by — we have discussed the possibility of eventually taking character suggestions and turning them into semi-OCs ( which would not be restricted to second characters for our current players ). However, we would want to give our original eight a chance to establish themselves, get to know each other and generally see which direction the group goes before we take any such plans further.
Once more, we are so blown away and humbled by the response we’ve gotten for Opulence. We take each and every compliment to heart. <3
even though i cry because i'm not in this roleplay, i swear it is the most beautiful group i've ever seen and i'm not pulling your leg i swear it gives me chills.
Oh you are such a sweetheart, dear anon! It makes us so happy to hear how this group have made such an impression on you and we are still incredibly amazed by the great response we have gotten on Opulence. Once the group have become more established with the core eight we have discussed expanding it with semi-OCs requested by the current members –– All to create an instant important role for each character in the group. Our plans for Opulence are many and above! It is our wish that the group carries on for so long that we can act on these ideas, because we have plenty ideas and angles in our arsenal that we wish to make group-canon. We also ( thanks to the wonderful applications we have received! ) want to create space for all the people who have shown interest in the group. When Alexander Rosier invited you to dinner at his family’s townhouse in Belgravia, you did not expect to be blindfolded upon arrival – then again, all you can think now is that you definitely should have. The CHARMER has never been the kind to let a dinner party simply be a dinner party. Thus, the seven of you are now waiting in suspense, in amusement, or perhaps inmild annoyance for the upcoming surprise to be revealed.
When your blindfolds eventually come off, you are met with a decadent scene – the windows are covered in dark drapes, and the room lit solely by magnificent candelabras. Scattered around the locale are, among other things, levitating drink trays carrying the most pristine champagne flutes, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and a variety of other alcoholic beverages selected with the long-standing preferences of the group in mind.
Let the entertainment begin.
The OPENING EVENT will run for a week, starting now and ending on Saturday, February 7th. However, on Wednesday, February 4th, there will be a fun and intriguing plot-drop relating to the event. As of now, feel free to begin interactions with your fellow members -- chats, mini paras and paras are all allowed. RREGINA, pronounced as re-JEEN-ah. It is of Latin/Italian origin, and the meaning of Regina is: Queen.
CAROLYN, pronounced as KARE-a-line. It is of Old German origin, and the meaning of Carolyn is: Free man.
Work: Disregarding the concept of gender roles, Regina yearned for more than a life spent solely in leisure and regalia. In fact, she wanted to do what the men in her family were entitled to. Therefore, due to the generous support of one Jonathan Avery, the beautiful belle was offered to occupy a position within the grand Ministry of Magic. Having always been interested in contributing to the future of the Wizarding World, she was more than delighted with the chance to discourse political sphere. Accordingly, she has been continuously rising in the ranks since her introduction into the professional life. Proudly and as of currently, she wears the title of Junior Assistant to the Minister for Magic.
Ebony: This jet-black wand wood has an impressive appearance and reputation, being highly suited to all manner of combative magic, and to Transfiguration. Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider, ebony wand owners have been found both among the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix and among the Death Eaters. In my experience the ebony wand’s perfect match is one who will hold fast to his or her beliefs, no matter what the external pressure, and will not be swayed lightly from their purpose. Boomslang venom & Chimera sclare fragment: For the simple reason that these cores are prized for their raw power, I would like to say that they suit Regina in the aspect of necessity, but also worth.While she is a strong woman who demands for an equally strong companion, power is what she requires in order to be able to encase herself in a veil of protection. She is a woman who has only a few selected friends and risks the possibilty of having a hundred enemies.
Wand lenght: As longer wands tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, I’d like to think that this part is self-explanatory.
Biography:
The Professional is the the epitome of artistic wit. With a natural talent of unraveling conundrums, the child was declared as prodigious. However. It was of female sex.
“Mama said, you’re a pretty girl. What’s in your head it doesn’t matter. Brush your hair, fix your teeth, what you wear is all that matters.”
Whereas her parents had always wished for a son, it was Regina instead who graced their lives. Surprisingly, the Lestrange progeny turned out to be of striking beauty. Petite, fragile, elegant — starting with her first draw of breath, she was perceived as the epitome of precious femininity. From the time she was old enough to walk, the brunette was handed off to governesses galore. A true lady she should become. It was expected of her to regard, rather than to speak and to look pretty, so that one day, she would be able to be a magnificent trophy wife. Despite her vast intelligence and competence to become more than that, her parents refused to see anything else in her except the belle that she was.
As she realized this, Regina felt revolted beyond belief and silently swore that she wouldn’t go down without a fight. At this point, she was finally able to find her own identity — the true essence to her existence. To be something more than just a pretty thing. And Merlin, she fought. Whatever was asked of her, she conducted with precision and effort. During her time in Hogwarts, she was one of the best students. Every day became a day of trying to impress her father of her worth, as her mother remained in a state of stasis; nothing she did seemed to impress the other, but only faze.
However, with the completion of her education, she was but a flower in full bloom. Her Professors had praised her in the highest regard, and it was then that her parents finally consented to her wishes. Although many perceived her as a temporary anomaly, the Lestrange heiress remained strong. Thus, she wasn’t alone. With the help of Jonathan and her entrance in the Ministry of Magic, she was finally able to make a breakthrough and proved every doubt to be untrue. Regina Lestrange was reborn. She became The Professional.
Looking back on her story, it is clear as day that she never relents when she believes something so passionately. This, thus her witty and eloquent diction, makes the her a fierce debater. Mere casual conversations may appear as if she’s challenging someone. Sometimes, her words are prone to become intense and philosophical and her speech as wild and free as her personality. She’s not one to dilly dally about nonsense and frivolous girly ramblings. If seeking an mature, yet playful and interesting conversation, the Lestrange belle is certainly your girl to single out.
Character Traits: “I love it when people underestimate me. Seeing the stupid expressions on their faces after they have seen what I can really do is amusingly priceless.”
( + ) INTELLIGENT — And ruthlessly ambitious. While Regina’s exterior entails grace and allure, it is nothing but fool’s gold. At heart, she is a businesswoman who is unlikely to be outmaneuvered. Witty and shrewd, she possesses the unrelenting tongue of a serpent and is far, very far from foolish and not to be underestimated. Ever the curious one, she is trying to delve deep and survey any given situation, what renders her as quite weary of the games that other people try to play. She is on an eternal quest to get to the very heart of any matter. This appears in anything that requires thought, and in almost every conversation she has. Totally fearless when it comes to delving into depths that nobody else wants, or even thinks, to explore, Regina is adept at learning the source and the core of any problem or issue. She is blessed ( or cursed, depending on how you want to look at it) with the observation skills of a surveillance camera, seeming to just see all and know all. Her nous is rich in profundity and her cleverness outstanding. It’s easy for her to hold people’s attention as she is a savvy and entertaining speaker. In a nutshell, one may as well compare her to a walking encyclopedia; she stores information into her head and uses it when needed. You are mistaken however if you believe that she is willing to share her knowledge with just anyone. After all, knowledge is power — and the one who knows the most, holds the power. But how to use the knowledge, is what is true wisdom — such simplicity as it is knowledge to know that tomato is a fruit, but it is wisdom not to put it into a fruit salad.
( + ) INDEPENDENT — If inspected closely, one will be able to see utter confidence in her stark bright eyes and a warrior soul wishing to break free of society’s shackles. Never give up, is her philosophy, and eternal glory her goal. She doesn’t constantly need someone to be with her in order for her spirits to be lifted. Emotionally, she’s very strong and quite capable of taking care of herself. She values her freedom very much and doesn’t like to be told what she should be doing. So, concluding from this, it’s pretty much out of question that Regina would follow someone blindly. Rather than that, she concentrates on the core of each matter and never bothers about the superfluous. She constantly seeks for clearness, as ambiguity makes her feel uneasy.
( - ) RESENTFUL — Combined with her inability to let things go, she can hold a grudge against someone who did her harm or those she cherishesforever. In fact does she rarely, if never, forgives and forgets. Regina hates being lied to, not to mention being played with and getting betrayed. Oh boy, this is when her vindictiveness turns to sadism, and her games becomewars — strategies are her specialty. Evidently, she likes it when people confront her with blank honesty right ahead, as well as quick and precise answers — impatience is omnipresent. On the other hand, though, she would always remember a kind gesture forever and repay it. Any kind /selfless gesture done to the belle will gain respect, which is extremely important to her in any relationship, romantic or not.
( - ) PARANOID — Without a doubt, this Lestrange makes a formidable opponent, although often quietly so. She keeps her cool and her equilibrium on the surface. Below the surface may be another story, and it is very unlikely that she will let you in. Due to the fact that she constantly has to fight to get her will through, Regina mostly prefers to keep to herself and deliberates trust as something difficult to place. She knows that people frown upon the lifestyle that she chose to pursue, and she knows that some might even consider her a threat.
Three Possible Plots
NOTIRIOUS NEMESIS — In this plot, someone within the Ministry is trying to make Regina’s ever rising shooting star fall. Jealousy, contempt, misogyny — whatever the reason, she will be met with a time of difficulties and dirty intrigues. Her confidence, as well as her stamina and devotion for her job will be tested. Will she be able to stand her ground? Or crash miserably towards her doom?
This plot could be fleshed out towards various endings. Imagine a kind of The Tudors atmosphere, only less historical. Scandals, gossip, rumors and cunning schemes are what will await The Professional.
LOVE IS IN THE AIR… OR NOT? — As it isn’t uncommon for pureblood families to arrange marriages, this plot could be very interesting regarding the person who would have to deal with Regina’s agender character ( None of the main characters will play this role ). Secretly still in hopes that her daughter awakens from her preposterous dream and to show Regina her true place, it is the mother who deliberately hires and selects a man who is going to make the young belle’s life a living hell. This plot could be linked with the first.
DESTRUCTION — Another plot solely for Regina could be that she conclusively breaks down under the pressure of the constant criticism and the malice that people aim at her regarding her job. Rather than a true plot however, this could also be an alternative ending to one of the above mentioned storylines.
How does the character relate to their group of friends?
NICHOLAS MALFOY — Conversations with the Machiavellian are everything but boring. Whenever they meet, the glimmer of a smile works its way onto her lips, wry and imbued with fleeting amusement. It is not often that she finds someone with more than two brain cells to rub together, and she gives him credit for that. Yet, the true reason for her amusement lies privily within the fact that she can’t gift him with true sobriety. His self-obsessed and utterly arrogant personality entertains her, but also makes him seem lacking in the respectability department ( thus sparks inside her the urge to smack him down with sarcastic quips and teasing comments ).
ALEXANDER ROSIER — Quite similar to her feelings regarding Nicholas, Alexander entertains her with his arrogant and vain character. However, what significantly distinguishes the Rosier heir from all of their friends is his undeniably attractive charm. Handsome, thrilling and naughty to a degree, not even the strong minded Professional is able to resist him. No matter her mood, he never ceases to make her laugh ( sometimes not with him, but out of court ) and enjoys his may-the-devil-care attitude ( which she herself finds incapable of having ). His vibrant and carefree demure evokes envy, and by spending time with him, it almost seems as though there is nothing to fear and care about in the world.
TISIPHONE CARROW — Perceptive, collected, composed — in Tisiphone’s presence, ( inwardly ) none of these traits apply to Regina anymore; drear loss gnaws at her heart, as does mild irritation. Once very close, a chasm seems to have opened between these two over the years. Perhaps it was due to the lack of time with which she could have graced the other ( as she was busy chasing after her rightful place in this world ). While she can’t put her finger on it, she is aware that something seems to bother her old friend, and albeit she is curious, she resists the urge to ask the redhead about it (she deems herself of having lost that privilege ).
ARABELLA NOTT — The lovely sister who she never had the opportunity to pamper. Arabella is endearing; she is the beautiful belle blooming in a summers morning and the gentle flower whistling in the wind. Etheral as she is innocent, Regina treasures her in dear value. Kindness is something which she rarely encounters and yet sees within the little fool — never will she allow for harm to touch this child. All too familiar with the uglier counterparts of society, she yearns to protect Arabella like a doting mother would her daughter and at times tries to wise her up in moments of intimacy.
LYCORIS BLACK — Her supportive backbone. Together, these two are the perfect compromise. Whereas it is Lycoris who inspires her and assures her of her worth, it is Regina who constantly challenges them in regards to a multitude of themes. It is also with them, that Regina almost always catches herself at drifting on her own philosophical bubble. If there is one thing that the brunette sincerely enjoys to do, then it would be debating. She indulges in the art that is language.
JONATHAN AVERY — When it comes to Jonathan, her adoration for this man knows no boundaries. As it was thanks to his vouch that she was able to pursue after her dream, Regina is overflowing with gratitude. Out of all their friends, it is the Diplomat who she respects most and desires when seeking a polite and friendly conversation. His wit and calm appeal to her, as does his diplomatic poise. The only thing which bothers her about this very fascinating pureblood is, that she feels indebted to him. She refuses profusely to believe that she wouldn’t have been able to stand where she currently does without Jonathan’s aid. After all, she has the smarts, the competence and a highly ambitious drive. But deep down ( and buried underneath her pompous pride ) she knows that it is untrue.
CELESTE MALFOY — Ever since that incident, she feels somewhat awkward around Celeste at times — not because she feels ashamed of the kiss itself, no. Ever since however, it seems like the Bon Vivant has put a little of distance between them which makes her, at most, feel a pang of guilt for having allowed to lose control like that. Although it is mostly confusion which rears its ugly head whenever Regina ponders about when exactly their friendship had started to lack in depth, she also knows better than to chase after the past and tries to brush the matter off as though it had been only a figment of her imagination. Aside from this, similar to Alexander ( who seems to be a male version of Celeste ) she still enjoys the blonde’s carefree and excited personality, especially when going through a tiring or stressful time. Hence, whenever she seeks to lose her mind to primordial and intoxicating pleasure, it is Celeste to whom she turns. Figuratively, they are like night and day.

“Go?”, her voice was tantalizing sweet around this time. However, whoever believed Selene to be seriously over what just happened, was a flat out true fool. Under different circumstances, she might have been more easy-going than that, but today turned out to be not her day at all. The Vampiress began to take small steps around the puny human, studying him with the scrutinizing eye of a graceful predator. Maintaining the same tone of vox, a meaningful smirk crossed her lips as she finally stepped aside and out of the mediocre creature’s way thus extended a hand which invitingly gestured down the hallway to his room. “Sure. Go ahead, darling blood bag.” The blonde undead waited patiently for him to do so.
One… Two… Three… And after a few heartfelt milliseconds, her voice rose in volume for one last time, only a beat after the boy was out of her sight again. As though an entirely new person had taken over her body, the sweet timbre from before was suddenly gone and instead, the piercing tune of a dangerously sharp sword in the form of a low whisper escaped her. Slowly but certainly, the ever so trade-marking veins that revealed the true kin to which Selene Richter blonged to scarred her perfectly angled features and lastingly resulted into her hues transforming into a color of bloody crimson. “Question is: Will you be able to reach it?”.
