One of the best ways for us to see bellarke as the romance it really is if we frame it by asking ourselves, “would Bellamy have acted that way with Clarke in front of E?” All the tender scenes of season 5 are so intimate. Bellamy has intense heart eyes, flirts, and he holds her close, puts his lips on her shoulder, and his hands on her hips. These are things he wouldn’t have done in front of E because they’re too intimate for just a friend. He’s already in too deep.
RIGHT?
I have thought about that, too.
Like, that last scene in front of the window would NOT have happened if Echo were awake.
Why? Because it isn’t platonic. There’s too much behind it. He would have turned to Echo not Clarke, because it’s that intimate. Or if he’d already hugged Echo like that, he wouldn’t have then hugged Clarke too.
Or that “hey,” “hey,” greeting? That wouldn’t have happened if Echo were also waking.
Like that other nonny’s boyfriend said, “whether he realizes it or not, he’s already emotionally cheating.”
He may not DO anything to be a dog to Echo, he may not physically cheat, but Bellamy FELL IN LOVE WITH ANOTHER GIRL while he had a girlfriend. And we can consider the situation and recognize that he had no choice in the matter, or that he was ALREADY in love with her and had moved on, ONLY because he thought she’d died, and discovering that she was alive snapped that relationship back into place. Because he loves her. And being separated from her by death, space, or time cannot stop him from loving her.
LITERALLY.
DEATH.
SPACE.
TIME.
If there are gods in this universe, the gods have set them to love each other and to suffer. And to place obstacles in their way.
Freaking epic.
My man Bellamy is drowning in the wine dark sea of his love for Clarke. That’s how deep he is. And trying to maintain the normalized life of the ark, with the girl who was there.
If you need forgiveness, I’ll give that to you.
Remember that? How many days after being enemies did Clarke tell him she needed him? Well, he only knew her for about 9 months, so it’s not the 3 years it took him to forgive Echo.
And yet, his love for Clarke is held back by his commitment to Echo. He told her that nothing would change between them when they got to the ground. No one could have predicted that Clarke was alive. And Echo, apparently, did not know that Bellamy loved Clarke, even in the past, not even as the girl who had died. Bellamy made a commitment based on incomplete data.
He is, in canon, in love with Clarke Griffin.
Here’s another way you can tell that his feelings for Clarke are romantic…. he never would have made that pledge to Echo if he had known that Clarke was alive and waiting for him. He wouldn’t have been able to say “nothing is going to change,” because Clarke’s very existence changed EVERYTHING.
Ask yourself this question, if he HAD known Clarke was alive and waiting for him on earth, would he have even fallen in love with Echo? Would there be a b/e at all?
