A Colourful Meeting
A meeting of Anthuriums in celebration of a new bloom in the conservatory.
Two Heads Are Better Than One
Two Black-headed Parrots playing games in the former Jurong Bird Park. This was taken with an unstabilized 70-200mm lens stacked with a 2x teleconverter. Usually details wouldâve been impacted by the use of such a teleconverter but things had seemed to look fine here.
When the Rain Sets the Mood
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis looking fresh after some rain. This was taken with the flower back-lit and with the exposure biased a stop darker. Highlights were then pushed up in post while the background was toned down a little.
A Pony for Kids
Photographed this dark pony in the Rainforest KidzWorld back in 2016. This seemingly snow-clad scene was actually a high contrast scene, in which I had to pick between the dark pony or the bright sun-lit ground. The 2/3-inch sensor of the Fujifilm X-S1 didnât offer enough dynamic range to have both clearly exposed. So I had exposed for the pony and the image turned out this way.
Tree Of Life
An Adansonia digitata or baobab tree lying low in the botanic gardens. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
Known as the tree of life in its native land because itâs apparently a source of shelter, food and water for the indigenous people and wildlife.

Running In The Heat
A gutsy runner working out in the hot afternoon in the botanic gardens. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
This gentleman was wearing black and didnât stand out very well against dark green foliage. So the image was converted to black and white in post. The runner had need to be assigned to a new layer while the background was separately darkened somewhat.

Anything But Sweet
Lathyrus odoratus or Sweet Peas bearing fruits in the conservatory. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
They look like edible peas and smell sweet too but they are apparently toxic. Hazardous after âfour to eight weeks of chronic ingestionâ. âSymptoms include paralysis, bradycardia, shallow breathing, muscular tremors and convulsions, and severe cases are potentially fatal.â (Source)

The Neighbourâs Twenty Yellow

This was taken under a harsh sun. To lighten harsh shadows a bit, highlights were pulled back and shadows were brightened a little in post.

This was taken against shady undergrowth with the exposure biased 1-2/3 stops darker.

Ladies Of The Night
Brassavola nodosa, commonly known as Lady of the Night, blooming in the National Orchid Garden. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
The downpour had just stopped when we arrived at the garden. Thankfully, these didnât soak right through or else wet, translucent petals wonât look as nice.

Hanging On

The Iron Lady

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is apparently nicknamed "La dame de ferâ or The Iron Lady by the locals for its use of wrought iron.
This image was converted from DNG raw and edited in Affinity Photo.
Love Like Thine, Love Divine

Love locks around the Camden area of the Regentâs Canal. This was taken with the camera lowered to the level of the padlocks.
