You knew Raine back when they had attended St. Epiderm. A lot of kids didnât really get to know them and to be honest, you didnât get to either. However, whenever you would see them in the hall or even in class, you would smile or wave at them. Just a simple act of acknowledgment and kindness.
You had heard from a couple other students that Raine had transferred to Hexside and it made you a little sad.
Obviously, the bard never completely left your mind, theyâd come up in your brain at random moments, even into adulthood.
A few months before Raine was announced as the new Bard Coven Head, you had seen them in the market. Shopping at the same little stall.
âRaine?â You unintentionally said out loud.
Raine turned their head at the sound of their name, looking like a deer in headlights before seeing you and calling your name.
You were honestly a bit surprised they remembered your name. It made you wonder if they thought of you like you thought them.
âItâs been a while. Howâve you been?â Raine asked, still a little nervous.
âIâve been doing well! I havenât seen you since before you transferred to Hexside.â You smiled. âGee, how long has it beenâŠâ
Raine chuckled, âToo long.â
You both talked like you were old friends and while that was half true, there was still a lot you both didnât know about each other.
You and Raine bought whatever you needed from the stall and sat on a bench for a while to catch up and also sort of get to know each other.
The conversation went on and you both spoke about various things. You spoke about the coven you decided to join while Raine told you about how they were training to become the head of the Bard Coven.
âNo way, thatâs so awesome.â You smiled. âCongratulations, Raine. You earned it.â
They smiled, âThanks.â
After a few more minutes of talking, you guys realized you actually had errands to run, so the conversation ended with both of you exchanging contact information.
Over the next few months, you and Raine got to know each other more and more. While it took some time and a LOT of confidence, the both of you decided to try and get together.
While it may sound corny, you two clicked so easily, it made you wonder why it took so long to get to know them.
When Raine had asked you out, you guys were in their office cleaning up. Totally not a romantic scene, as there were books and papers everywhere, but something about it made Raine so sure theyâd like to know what it felt like to be with you.
âH-HeyâŠâ Raine called out, a faint blush starting to creep on their face.
You stopped dusting the shelves and took a moment to turn your body to look at them. âHm?â
âI-I was wonderingâŠâ they started, âWould it be okay if I⊠ask-asked you to g-go on a cake? I mean rate! I mean-âÂ
Their stuttering went on for a while before you finally got the gist and grabbed their flailing hands. Raineâs body stiffened when you did this before you finally said, âDo you mean a date?â
They looked at your hands and your face as their face got red, nodding slowly.
You laughed at their expression, âYou can try again, but slow down.â
You and Raine took a deep breath before they finally said, âWould you like to go on a d-date with me?â
You smiled, âYes, Raine. I would love to go on a date with you.â
Raineâs face lit up and they pulled you in a hug.
âLetâs finish cleaning your office first, then we can discuss a good time.â You said.
The night continued with loving glances and endless smiles.
After you both finished cleaning, you agreed on meeting for your date on the weekend, when you were both off from work.
Raine decided to take you to a simple and cute tea shop in Bonesborough. In the background, you could hear calming music from a bard group performing nearby.
After you both finished your tea and speaking for a bit, Raine thought it would be fun to stroll around town for a bit.Â
The night sky looked beautiful as the stars shined brighter than you had ever seen and the ambiance of the lively but peaceful music made it so perfect.
âDo you mind if I take you somewhere else?â They asked.
âOf course.â Raine boldly grabbed your hand and led you to a secluded spot near a lake.
âRaine, this is beautiful.â You said.Â
The scene took your breath away and you couldnât get your eyes off the beautiful sight of the lake. It sparkled in the moonlight and you could see that Raine set up a little picnic blanket with a basket your yours and Raineâs favorite foods and little fairy lights wrapped in the tree behind it.
While you stared at the lake, Raine stared at you with this adoration and love that they couldnât explain if they wanted to.
They offered their hand and you held it while smiling so lovingly at them. Raine led you over to your spot, gently setting you down and making sure you were comfortable before walking to their side.
âI hope you donât mind that I did this. I purposely didnât take you to a restaurant for this very reason.â Raine explained.
âRaine, this is honestly the best thing anyoneâs ever done for me.â You admitted. âThank you. I really love this.â
As the night went on, you two spoke a lot about various things. Each topic ended with soft laughter and eye contact that lingered longer than either of you could usually handle.Â
You both felt comfortable talking and there wasnât a moment of awkward silence or moments.
Raine pulled out their violin with magic. âI-I made something for you. I hope itâs not too corny.â
You watched in silence as they started to perform a song they had made just for you. Raine could feel your loving gaze as they played on and it made them feel confident and not pressured at all.
When the song ended, you clapped for them. Raine looked embarrassed but you were super impressed.
âThat was so beautiful, Raine.â You said before you stopped clapping.
âIâm glad you liked it.â Raine smiled and used their magic to return the violin to wherever they got it from.
You stared into each otherâs eyes, it felt like time had stopped and it was only you two in the whole world.
âIâm really glad we got to meet each other again.â
