STEP ONE: A SEDUCTION (she wraps her pretty red lips - a shade named pomegranate, not cherry - around the neck of a bottle and bats her darkened eyelashes, a wordless invitation to the man across the bar who pretends not to notice as she slips in the heels she stole from her mother’s closet) STEP TWO: A DECEPTION (she lets him take her home - makes her body soft, pliant - he offers the seeds and she lets them stain her chin like a sacrifice, like blood. she smiles as she kisses him, and she lets him think that all this was his idea) STEP THREE: A KINGDOM (in this world, it it widely known that the name persephone means bringer of destruction - she is hunger, she is greed, she is want, and there is nothing more devastating than the ambition of a teenage girl)

#i just watched an entire season of television centered around the facets of this relationship #and all i want is MORE #they're so good. robin wright penn is so fucking good at her job #both of them knowing he would be nothing without her #the way he worships her above anything else but it's not enough #because before the white house they were equals - equals ALWAYS #but as soon as he sat in that chair they became unbalanced and she can't handle it #because she's centered her WHOLE LIFE around both of them being in it together; working towards goals whose benefits they reap together #but there is no room for that in a presidency AND CLAIRE CAN'T DEAL WITH IT #and the relationship they built suddenly gets exposed to these societal ideas of how a marriage should be #and claire gets pigeonholed into this role she NEVER wanted that she fought against her WHOLE LIFE #it was never enough to behind the woman behind frank and so she takes it out in the dynamics of their marriage #and so he does that right back but it's worse because he's the man #and she's the woman and even though they tried SO HARD to not fall into those roles #here they are #WHICH OF US WILL SURVIVE #WHICH OF US WILL SURVIVE THE OTHER (via apriki)
