I will reblog this every time.
Literally this.
Getting dirty, asking questions, being unapologetically enthusiastic about things, going overboard on projects. These are a few of my favorite things.
This is so heartbreaking, but so true.

Happy Occupational Therapy Month!
May your practice be client centered and may you always meet with people who know what occupational therapy is.
April is OT month!
Motto all 2018.
We have a project that includes requirements from three of our class this semester and mine is due in a week 😳 so that's what I worked on all day. Enjoy this picture of my activity analysis in progress, featuring the practice framework on my computer because I'm fairly certain I'm never going to remember what all the client factors mean.
“Rehab is a great unit to work for because you get to see the kids get better and go home. I think back at those patients that, you know, you see them come in and they can’t even sit up or hold their head up. It’s nice to see that I helped them walk out of here. I’ve had many I will always remember.”

OT student here!
I always knew that I loved music, but it wasn't until this year (when I've been without it much more often than I ever have been) that I realized that it's what makes me happy to be alive 🎵❤️🎶
This week has been a whirlwind! I got one of the tires on my car slashed and had to take care of that, we took a class field trip to watch a driving assessment, I had to deep clean my on campus apartment for health and safety checks, and I've had 2 midterms and a quiz. BUT I found the time to watch this cool webinar from The Ability Lab about treating performing artists, which was a cool mash-up of my two passions. Some of it was still a little over my head since I'm only a first year student (it was meant to be a continuing ed course), but it was still cool to see where OT fits in with the arts. Even amongst the chaos this week it was fun to take the time to explore something close to my heart.
if you’re an active studyblr or the like, please reblog this. my dash is kind of dead
Reblog this especially if you’re following me. I’d love more mutuals. Just know, though, that I take being mutuals very seriously ;)
I referenced this song in one of my last few posts, but I thought it was important to bring back around right now. Below are the program notes:
“An American Elegy is, above all, an expression of hope. It was composed in memory of those who lost their lives at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, and to honor the survivors. It is offered as a tribute to their great strength and courage in the face of a terrible tragedy. I hope the work can also serve as one reminder of how fragile and precious life is and how intimately connected we all are as human beings. I was moved and honored by this commission invitation, and deeply inspired bythe circumstances surrounding it. Rarely has a work revealed itself to me with such powerful speed and clarity. The first eight bars of the main melody came to me fully formed in a dream. Virtually every element of the work was discovered within the span of about two weeks. The remainder of my time was spent refining, developing, and orchestrating. The work begins at the bottom of the ensemble's register, and ascends gradually to a heartfelt cry of hope. The main theme that follows, stated by the horns, reveals a more lyrical, serene side of the piece. A second theme, based on a simple repeated harmonic pattern, suggests yet another, more poignant mood. These three moods - hope, serenity, and sadness - become intertwined throughout the work, defining its complex expressive character. A four-part canon builds to a climactic quotation of the Columbine Alma Mater. The music recedes, and an offstage trumpeter is heard, suggesting a celestial voice - a heavenly message. The full ensemble returns with a final, exalted statement of the main theme.” - Frank Ticheli
I am saddened by the most recent school shooting. All of those kids were just trying to learn. They were trying to grow into adults, into doctors and lawyers and engineers. One of them even wanted to be an occupational therapist just like me, two of them were band kids, also just like me. That really hit me hard this time. I’m just so disheartened by the many young lives taken this past week, its hard to put into words, but this piece of music seems to just soar and carry with it all of the emotions that I feel. I would highly recommend giving it a listen.
New Year's Resolution
Well here we are, its nearing the end of February - the time when New Year's resolutions tend to die... at least for me. But not this year!! My resolution this year was just to take better care of myself and I have been succeeding so far and I'm here to tell you, it feels great.
Last semester I didn't take care of myself very well. I didn't sleep enough, I didn't eat well, I didn't drink enough water, I didn't exercise, and I didn't treat myself or take enough time to do something fun and relieve stress. I experienced a lot of stress responses that I've never had before. I developed an eye twitch, battled acid reflux, and I'm pretty sure I had a few mild anxiety attacks. I forgot to love myself and take care of my body, so I vowed to take better care of myself in 2018.
Just deciding to take care of myself doesn't put the stress of trying to fulfill a precise goal to lose a certain amount of weight or drink a certain amount of water or eat a certain amount of calories. Those are the things that failed in the past. Sometimes just taking care of myself means eating a clean diet, but sometimes it means picking up a donut on my way to hold office hours on Friday mornings. Sometimes taking care myself means working out everyday, but sometimes it means taking a rest day to binge watch Netflix. Sometimes it's drinking plenty of water, but other times it's going out for drinks with friends even if it means having a hangover in the morning. Some days taking care of myself means skipping out on lunch with my friends so that I can get ahead on school work and not stress about it later, but other times it's accepting that even if I won't get anything done it's better to spend my lunch break with friends because laughter is definitely the best medicine.
The moral of the story is that balance is the key to life. Most of the time taking care of myself is eating all the right things and studying hard at all times and getting a good workout in, but what I've learned so far in 2018 is that it is equally important to accept that it's ok when taking care of yourself is not any of that. It's been great so far, here's to keeping my New Years resolution for the whole year this time!
Reblog if you’re an active studyblr please and thank you!
I just unfollowed like 300 inactive blogs and I’m looking for some neat new mutals to follow! Also totally wouldn’t mind a cheeky follow back :P
New and not the typical studyblr aesthetic I suppose, but also grad school is hard? But I'm doing my best at the blogging thing!
Spent the afternoon learning about burns and how OT is important in treating them. Never realized how important OT could be for burn patients!
Also An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli proved to be a great piece to add to the study playlist today.
Perfect Sunday morning catching up on chores and getting ahead on some reading for the week. Oh, and it's January and I opened all my windows because it's gorgeous out and I desperately need the fresh air.
