Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve used this account, I feel like every time I tried to commit myself to it something major in my life happened and I simply fell away each time.

Since it’s been so long, I have a big announcement! I’ve been accepted into and have committed to a Doctor of Occupational Therapy program starting in the fall! I am so thankful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started.

I’ll be graduating from my undergrad studies in a little less than a month and then spending the summer moving and getting settled in my new city :) I hope to get back in touch with this account during that time so that I’ll be back in full swing and studying with the community come the beginning of my program. I have struggled to find study/academic motivation and content related to occupational therapy so I hope to be able to fill that gap just a bit. Thank you to all of you for your support when I have been active, and I’m really excited to re-engage with you all. 🐝🌱

Study Habits

Study habits that were effective last quarter:

Making review sheets (basically a list of questions to answer) for each week for classes that had exams.

Making condensed summary sheets of information

Doing the readings before class and taking notes, taking notes in lecture, then consolidating those notes at some point.

Always be a week or two (or more) ahead on readings and assignments. This is very helpful for those unforeseen circumstances where you suddenly fall ill, a family member suddenly falls ill, someone dies, etc. It gives you a lot of wiggle room if you take the time to work ahead, that way you can take entire days off from homework and studying guilt free.

Study habits I would like to implement or have been implementing for this quarter:

Be more timely with my review sheets, summary sheets, and notes. Last quarter, sometimes I would keep up and have a designated day where I consolidates notes/made review sheets and summary sheets. Other times, I’d have a lapse and then have 3 weeks of content to review and condense.

Hopefully, I can become quicker at reading and taking notes because I feel like I’m very slow (at least, that’s what some of my classmates have pointed out, however, none of them ever do the reading, or do well on many exams for that matter).

This week is the final week of school for my Occupational Therapy program.

This has honestly been the biggest whirlwind adventure of my life. It blows my mind that I am almost done. I love the profession that I have chosen and would not trade it for the world.

I still have to take my boards, but who knows when that will be due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What I DO know is that I have worked very hard for the moment that I get to call myself an OTR/L and I will be very thankful when that happens.

I am so ready to start helping people, and to start the rest of my life.

Introduction

Hi there! My name is Kayleigh and I’m starting this blog to chronicle my time in occupational therapy school. I’ll be going for my Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree. I start this fall!

I plan to post regular weekly updates, study pics, videos, and other random content relevant to OT, grad school, and my life.

New Year's Resolution

Well here we are, its nearing the end of February - the time when New Year's resolutions tend to die... at least for me. But not this year!! My resolution this year was just to take better care of myself and I have been succeeding so far and I'm here to tell you, it feels great.

Last semester I didn't take care of myself very well. I didn't sleep enough, I didn't eat well, I didn't drink enough water, I didn't exercise, and I didn't treat myself or take enough time to do something fun and relieve stress. I experienced a lot of stress responses that I've never had before. I developed an eye twitch, battled acid reflux, and I'm pretty sure I had a few mild anxiety attacks. I forgot to love myself and take care of my body, so I vowed to take better care of myself in 2018.

Just deciding to take care of myself doesn't put the stress of trying to fulfill a precise goal to lose a certain amount of weight or drink a certain amount of water or eat a certain amount of calories. Those are the things that failed in the past. Sometimes just taking care of myself means eating a clean diet, but sometimes it means picking up a donut on my way to hold office hours on Friday mornings. Sometimes taking care myself means working out everyday, but sometimes it means taking a rest day to binge watch Netflix. Sometimes it's drinking plenty of water, but other times it's going out for drinks with friends even if it means having a hangover in the morning. Some days taking care of myself means skipping out on lunch with my friends so that I can get ahead on school work and not stress about it later, but other times it's accepting that even if I won't get anything done it's better to spend my lunch break with friends because laughter is definitely the best medicine.

The moral of the story is that balance is the key to life. Most of the time taking care of myself is eating all the right things and studying hard at all times and getting a good workout in, but what I've learned so far in 2018 is that it is equally important to accept that it's ok when taking care of yourself is not any of that. It's been great so far, here's to keeping my New Years resolution for the whole year this time!

August 11, 2017 So I made this spread with all of the things I need to do to finish up the OTCAS to apply for OT school! Because if you haven't noticed this is no longer just a studyblr for the time being, it's now a studyblr with appblr tendencies. But that will end in a couple months!

Day One

9+ hours and 12 clients later I finished my first day of fieldwork! The place is set up weird, but my supervisor is nice and shares my sarcasm and nerdiness. I'm kind of excited to start picking up my own clients soon... Nah, still scared shitless. Oh well.

Not every day will be good. Not every exam will go well. That doesn't mean you will not succeed, though. You'll still make it to the finish and achieve your end goal of your dream career
