The parallel between Johnny getting harassed by Sylvia and Cherry getting harassed by Dally….
Johnny probably knew how gross it felt…
Does anyone else see parallels between Soda and Bob?
Both trying to attract attention of parental figures in their life to try and get boundaries set? Bob literally beats people up on the street to try and get his folks to set some boundaries.
Soda seems to have started to push rules after his folks died. He gets speeding tickets, was arrested at least one time, dropped out of school, and was straight up going to marry his girlfriend at 16 after he thought he got her pregnant.
We literally don’t have a single sentence in the entire book that even hints towards Darry ever even giving Soda light discipline.
You would think with how invested he is in education we’d at least get a sentence on Darry’s reaction when Soda first dropped out, but no. Nothing.
I wonder if he and Bob ever felt the same sometimes?
Lines that the fandom just breezes right past:
DELTARUNE CHAPTER 5 WEIRD ROUTE SPOILERS!!!!!!!
HER PONYTAILS LOOK LIKE ANGEL WINGS!!!
rendering test lowk
I love drawings of Dally where they make him look like a human lizard (no dissing the art style the drawing is lovely, I’m talking about his facial features.)
Thinking about all the greasers who die in ordinary, undramatic ways that don’t make the news, who aren’t dubbed heroes and don’t even cause enough of a stir to be branded as hoodlums, who die every day in everyday ways, whose deaths are the background rattle of their living conditions like a faulty boiler in winter.
A hood in the Shepard gang with the wildest stories of surviving getting stabbed, shot at, and hit with a Soc’s corvette, gets the flu and dies on his couch. His gang is so angry and restless because they can’t beat up an illness or the doctors he didn’t even see. Angela is the one who finds him when she’s dispatched to bring him some soup, because that’s what greaser girls are for - to patch up their boys, to play fucking nursemaid, to be the even more unnoticed witnesses to the unnoticed deaths; the deaths not action packed enough for boys to stomach.
Reading this changed my life a little bit sort of.
It's completely understandable Ponyboy expects Darry and the others to eventually hate him and turn against him, and that he's always tense and looking for any excuse to push people away. He literally grew up around people whose families turned against them and hurt them, and it seems like the only people he knows who have fully functional families are himself and the Socs but he lost his parents and now his family isn't really functioning either so he thinks that this is the downwards slope that will eventually lead to him being abandoned by everyone, the same way other greasers have had their loved ones abandon them, so he's pushing everyone away before they can do it to him. It's literally him going 'everyone around me has messed up or difficult home lives and I thought my family was the exception but now it feels like the universe was just dragging out my impending doom so I'll hurt and push everyone away before they can do it to me.'
i am massively overdue for a very very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
reblog to give prev a very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
Please I need one so bad :’)
An analysis of eye color in the outsiders:
Blue eyes: Blue eyes represents a sort of detachment from “soft” feelings like love and compassion, and an embrace of feelings like hatred and resentment. Dally is described as having the most blue eyes out of anyone in the novel. Interestingly enough, Sandy is also described as having blue eyes, possibly hinting at her having deeper issues than we get to explore in the book.
Green eyes: Cherry and Pony are the only ones that are described as having green eyes in the novel. Green eyes are representative of people who are soft and sentimental in a way that the world around them is not. At the beginning of the book, Pony wishes his eyes were not green. This is a manifestation of his childish wish to be “tougher” or “cooler” than he is. It is also only after he truly understands Cherry that he realizes she has green eyes too.
Blue-Green eyes: Darry is the only one with a mix of eye colors in the book. I personally interpret him having a mix of blue and green being a nod to how he used to be sentimental or soft (green), but then was forced to grow up and harden himself too fast (blue). He still has love in his life, but he’s had to ignore so many emotions to keep things afloat.
Gray eyes: Two-Bit is the only member of the gang with gray eyes. They are the color of the silent struggler. The type of person who is able to laugh a lot and seems like they have it all together, but they are actually struggling heavily on the inside. Two-bit is presented as a happy-go lucky guy that pony looks up to, so much so that he wishes he HAD gray eyes at the start of the book. Over the course of the novel we learn that he is a functioning alcoholic who is struggling in school and has an absent father. That he’s not as put together as he seems.
Dark eyes (brown/black): Johnny and Soda are the only two who explicitly have dark eyes in the novel. Dark eyes are representative of home, empathy, and high emotional intelligence. Soda and Johnny might not understand what Pony goes on about when he talks about poems and sunsets and things, but they’re willing to try and relate to him, to learn and take his feelings seriously. Johnny portrays this well in what I think is one of the most overlooked scenes in the story; even though Bob was shown to be nothing but an absolute blight on those around him, Johnny still cries over the fact that he killed someone who was “only 17 or 18 years old.” I doubt Bob would have done the same if he had killed Johnny.
(Let me know if you disagree or think I’ve missed any!!!)
"Easy, Ponyboy....we'll be okay."

Darry, Johnny, and Sacrifice (Dally is also here.)
There is a parallel between Darry and Johnny and how their sacrifices reveal something previously unseen about them.
Darry gives up his dreams, his life, and his goals for his brothers. Pony says he’s cold and unfeeling, but it’s only in the hospital after Pony truly understands what Darry did for he and Soda that we as the readers realize Darry isn’t cold, he’s maybe the single most intensely loving member of all the gang.
Conversely, Johnny runs into the fire to save the kids without hesitation after Pony spends the whole novel calling him nervous and jumpy and likening him to a sad puppy. It’s only after he dies that Pony (and we) realize that Johnny was secretly the strongest member of the gang because he didn’t let the sheer cruelty of his life poison him into becoming cold and selfish. His strength lies in his love, and he made that love into courage.
Dally is sort of a weird fusion mash of both of them. He doesn’t sacrifice anything but himself, since that’s all he really has by the end of the book. More on this later when I don’t have a sinus headache.
people who are gay: yeah i’m gay
people who are straight: yeah i’m straight
people who are aroace: have you seen project hail mary
What if the reason Dally returned to Tulsa was because of the “murder rap” he alluded to? He “got mixed up in a murder rap” in New York and had to run, and the furthest hideout he knew of was the abandoned church on Jay Mountain that his cousin back in Oklahoma had told him about.
So he hitchhiked/stowed away on trains from New York to Windrixville, hoping that the hideout he heard about over three years ago would still suffice. Luckily it did, and that was Dally’s stint hiding out in the church.
When he finally got some indication that it was safe to leave, he figured he might as well go back to Tulsa since he couldn’t go back to New York. Not because he missed his childhood friends. Or their mom. That had nothing to do with it.
My favorite thing about Ponyboy's vague, unreliable narration, and his sheltered lifestyle (compared to other greasers not in general), is that it means Dally could've been this dangerous hood who beats the fuck out of little kids, and breaks bones, and gives people scars, and has probably seen terrible things like SA and drug abuse and murder, but it also means that Dally could just be...dangerous in Ponyboy terms but not 'hardened criminal' level dangerous.
Wouldn't it be so fucking funny if Dally is seen by Pony and the gang as this strong, scarred, 'will-legit-kill-someone-and-probably-has-before' hood, and then the actually strong, scarred, 'will-legit-kill-someone-and-probably-has-before' hood's like Tim Shepard are like "....that's an abused toy poodle. the worst this man has seen is someone beaten unconscious. the only reason he is feared is because he's angry as fuck and bites." Like, yeah Dally's gone to jail a bunch, but what if all that was for like...minor assault, and vandalism, and theft? And all the stories he told of New York were either 1) made up, or 2) not actually spine-chillingly bad just bad in terms of Ponyboy. And it's not like we actually know about Dally's life in New York! Yeah he could've been living on the streets surrounded by illness and drugs and abuse and horrific crimes, or he could've lived a lower-middle class life and was neglected.
And yeah, Tim Shepard is a hood, and Dally is seen as on the same level as him by Ponyboy, but what if Tim looks at Dally as is just like 'yeah I'll entertain the kid, he's about harmless anyways and he looks like he could really use a good fight.'
Pony's vague narration could be hinting at this terrible, blood-filled past for Dally, or it could just be Pony being dramatic and sheltered XD
Another thing to point out, is that dally just had that “flee to the church in case you do something worth the death penalty” plan on standby when he gives it to Pony and Johnny….makes one think….
Johnny, Dally, and hair:
There is an irony to Dally being the only one of the gang to not grease his hair, and yet being the only one who’s SO delinquent he’s a full-on hood.
Now compare that to Johnny who has hairthat he TRIES to grease back, but it’s “so long it falls in shaggy bangs across his forehead”.
When Johnny dies, Dally pushes his hair off his forehead and comments on how he never could keep it slicked back right, and then has his big freak out.
He’s not just talking about hair, he’s talking about how Johnny couldn’t harden himself to the world like most greasers. How he could never be anything other than gold, no matter how hard he tried to be hardened like Dally.
My Episode 9 predictions for Jax/Ribbit Backstory!(5/5/26)
At the end of the trailer, we see Ribbit looking up the fake stars with a longing look on her face, talking about regrets. This leads me to believe that she’s talking about regretting entering the circus because while it was fun at first, ultimately, none of it is real life and thus it doesn’t really matter.
Jax, being ribbit’s friend, tries to make her laugh like he used to. Constantly reassuring here that it IS real because HE’S real. Their friendship is real and that means it matters.
Ribbit is tortured by memories of the outside, and is unable to cope with the derealization and abstracts, leaving Jax devastated.
He believes he wasn’t “real” enough for Ribbit to stay sane. That he wasn’t funny enough to keep her laughing and happy and distracted.
He begins to lean hardcore into Ribbit’s belief that none of it is real to cope with his feelings of grief, using the very real reason for Ribbit’s abstraction as an excuse to hold onto the person he used to be before Ribbit abstracted.
“None of it’s real so nothing matters” for Ribbit, versus “none of it is real so none of it matters, so neither did that abstraction of my friend, I’m completely fine and totally unchanged by this event.” For Jax.
The wide-pupiled grin that used to be his normal resting face has now become a mask that he clings to from a bygone time. The face of the person Jax USED to be before Ribbit’s abstraction is now killing him.
when u see a small little scraggly 14-16 year old gay boy who has trauma and cries a lot but has to act tough and has fluffy hair
the maternal instincts are motha fucking high
