Last night I mentioned to a friend that I'm on the aro spectrum, and his response was basically "oh well that makes sense, you're too pretty to be into dudes!" (given the way we joke around this was just very nice and silly)

Little does he know, he's the only person I've ever felt anything that might be even a little romantic for. I suppose you could call it a crush of sorts, blended with gender envy and just overall thinking he's a cool and nice guy. It's quite possible this is just queerplatonic attraction.

The thing is, the way I've been able to avoid confronting my sort-of-crush, and what it means for my identity, has been by just assuming he wouldn't like me that way. And he has a girlfriend.

Anyway, this is such a stupid situation that it's made me very grateful to be aro, since I can't imagine dealing with this more.

attraction is so odd sometimes. i know this ask is very very old so the situation has likely changed, but i think being aro is sometimes so forgiving in that way, but it can also confuse you so so much

heyy, sorry for the late response!! i’m kinda unofficially on a hiatus because school is really killing me, and i’m so sorry for not really announcing everything.

i’ve been thinking about getting a second person to help run this blog, but i think id have to make a whole new blog since this is a sideblog. idk its something ive been putting off figuring out.

as an aroallo i generally tend to value sexual relationships above all others, especially in characters i like, and it makes me feel very bad both in fandom spaces and in real life. i dont know i just wanted to get that out

dude (gender neutral) the entire concept that sex and sexual relationships are bad or looked down upon is total bullshit. not to say that your feelings aren’t valid, bc they totally are, but yeah the social hierarchy of relationships is so fucked up. like who decided that there was only one correct way to value relationships?? because there’s really not. anyway just a reminder that every type of relationship is valid and there’s nothing bad about valuing sexual relationships above others <2

god tumblr's aroace community is obsessed with platonic ideals of love and intimacy to the point it can be super alienating for someone who does not vibe with that model either. if you are aroace and do not experience yearning, the need for a qpr relationship, or enjoy fanfiction or media based around intimacy and comfort… you're still valid. you're not broken or weird. i've been like this forever and it has not negatively impacted my quality of life. you will be okay, and you will be happy and thrive.
