by the way it's fine to like sexual content just for the sake of it. "we can't ban porn because other stuff will get banned" "sometimes nude art has value" "the government will classify queer people as sexual" this is all true but it's okay to just like porn. its okay to not want porn to be banned because you like it.
I feel like some people need to relearn Genre Expectations... "Man, this tragedy sucks!!! Why didn't they just do XYZ, then everything could have ended happily!!" well, then it wouldn't be a tragedy, would it. "Man, this lighthearted teen romcom is terrible, it's so sappy and unrealistic!!" Well, yeah. If it had been gritty and dark, it wouldn't have been a lighthearted romcom, would it. Is the writing actually bad or are you just trying to order a milkshake from a Home Depot

I feel like that should be the canned response to anyone who complains in your fic’s AO3 comments about the [thing] when the [thing] is clearly tagged.

This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.
Looking up the words is actually one of my favourite parts of :)
Plus, when I recognise or understand the big words it makes me feel smart 😚
imagine you have a movie with oscar isaac and john boyega and people fixate on adam driver instead. this actually happened
Klein is unbelievably Ace coded, what do you mean he’s witnessed multiple couples having sex (where at least one party was supernaturally beautiful) had demonesses use charm powers and aphrodisiacs on him AND THAT WHOLE THING WITH BEING ADMIRAL RIEVELDT??? “I wonder why the corruption barely affected me? Is it bcs of the grey fog and limitations that were set on me?” GIRL THE ASEXUALITY!!!
The most sexual god damn scene that used language I typically associate with sex scenes- WAS HIM DESCRIBING EATING THAT HOT AND JUICY DESI PIE-
liking a ship but disliking the distinct set of stock fanon that they have been assigned is like one of those punishments dante came up with when he wrote the worldbuilding for hell in inferno

People often react to the phrase "carbon footprint" with something about how it's coined by the fossil fuel industry to direct blame from producers to consumers, but I think there's still something extremely valuable about looking at emissions per capita -
graph one: total CO2 emissions, NOT per capita, by region. By 2020, China, the US, the EU, India, and Russia are the largest players, with the entire rest of the world barely surpassing China's emissions.
Graph two: The same regions but weighted per capita.
The US is unique in being extremely emissions-intense per capita while also being large and wealthy. This graph doesn't count emissions generated in China to produce goods shipped to America - it counts those under China's emissions.
some excellent discussion in the notes. in the US, it's not just "car culture" driving the high transportation emissions (which includes poor public transportation and abysmal street design) but also ZONING. too much of suburbia is zoned with minimum one acre lots, or half acre lots, which then necessitates more roads and cars, AND increases the acreage of mowed lawns (another net emitter). cluster housing, multifamily homes, densifying along better-designed main roads, are first addressed at the local level by changing zoning regulations. please participate in your local governance!
yes, but also, while the carbon footprint does shift blame on the consumer and some of that blame might be undeserved, most of it is. We in the Western World, in the USA and Europe, have a very intense consumer culture. Take for example, clothes. The clothing industry is responsible for 10 % of global CO2 emissions, in comparison all aviation is about 2 %. And the clothing industry is mostly situated in Asia, so not part of the graph above, but the incentive to produce fast fashion is purely driven by consumers, with new fashion trends all of the time, with fashion influencers and so on. And the craziest part, an awful lot of clothes are thrown away, a lot because it isn't even sold, but also a lot that is never worn by customers or only worn a few times. So it is not only a carbon footprint problem, but an overall waste problem and one that consumer habits helped create.
The same can be said for ai technology. People use it without thinking about the environmental impact. Since they don't have to pay for it (yet) and since they definitely don't have to pay for the environmental impact, people just use it, creating a demand for a technology, creating with their usage the statistics that those companies use to get more money to built more data center.
Will fast fashion or ai totally stop if consumers stop using it? Maybe not, but if it becomes economically not profitable to produce a product, because the demand is too low, then production will change. Of course that is only one part, we also need activism, to demand regulation, for example a tax on unsold clothes, so that companies get an incentive to stop overproduction, or regulations that data centers for ai need to be run on renewable energy and need to recycle their cooling water.
never kill yourself. you have to fill your mutuals dash with shit they don't care about forever, okay?
just realizing that afto probably should have taken enedora's body with them, no?
