Trans Women Face More Injuries Than Cis Ones (It's Not Even Close)
A new study found that injury rates among transgender women are significantly higher than injuries among cisgender women, based on radiologi
❝Transgender women in the study group suffered 8x times as many head injuries as the controls, 36x as many facial injuries, and 5x times as many chest injuries.❞
So much for "protecting women".
For all those wondering why the title doesn't say this, it's because the study doesn't say this either.
While the cause of the injuries may be obvious, it's not technically known, and science speaks for what is known.
Some (a minority) of the trans women injured reported that it was violence, and some (a smaller minority) reported that it was intimate partner violence, but most did not report anything and the stats are just from the fact that they needed treatment and so went through the radiology department with their injuries.
Getting a lot of reblogs saying "undescribed" and "no image ID" etc, so please be aware that I did add alt text shortly after posting (it was a pain to copy on my phone so I did it on my desktop), but by then, it had already been reblogged by a couple of big blogs, so this alt-texted version is languishing, please do reblog it!
you have to be kinder to people with memory issues.
you have to be kinder to people who are slow processors.
you have to be kinder to people who don't understand your jokes.
you have to be kinder to people who forget important dates.
you have to be kinder to people with cognitive decline.
you have to be kinder to people who were always this way, too.
you have to be kind. you have to be kind.
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
Remember when Lil Nas X beautifully explored his sexuality, seduced and killed the devil to the banger of all time, and instead of cheering on this openly gay and proud Black artist for his artistry and fighting back against respectability politics, suddenly said respectability politics was all the Queerest Place on the Internet cared about? Hm. Wonder what happened there.
Anyway I miss him and hope he's doing better with his mental health 🙏🏾

i'm breaking the author's silence to address these tags directly, because i've seen similar responses a few times. your context is part of you. you like your favorite band because you found them somehow. you speak the languages you speak because somebody else taught you. you feel the way you feel because you have memories and experiences. shaving off pieces of yourself will not reveal a truth at the center, and will only make you feel less like a person worth being. you will never shed your context or influences, anymore than you will ever become younger or undrink a glass of water. but you are free to create as much additional context as you like. build yourself outward instead of digging for yourself at the center. trying 100 new things will give you 100 more data points on what you like, don't like, think, believe, feel. it might begin to reveal an image of yourself that you can recognize, respect, and love. your life is not an object to be kept clean, it is an ongoing action that you get to control. also that's starlight glimmer not rarity.

Don't blame this on me after the rice cake/mayo/jam controversy. This one is my partner's doing.
I don't even bother hardly to orrect my typos anymore. It is just affirmation that these words were typed by the hands of human being and not extruded by a fucnking AI
one of my professors was like (paraphrasing) "AI makes you sound the same as everybody else. The idea of a single "correct" English is racist and flattens the diversity of people. I don't care about grammar outside of the writing being understandable. I want to hear YOUR voice, Your dialect the unique way you communicate."
I have been more appreciative of the rough edges of human communication since chatGPT came to be. The misspellings and turns of phrase that real people produce.
The inherently flawed nature of an alive thing vs. the empty perfection of something that never had life in it at all
I feel like a lot of people get "All Art is Political" confused with "All Art is made with Political Intentions" which is not the same.
I think what really bothers me about video game difficulty discourse is the way that it equates "inaccessibility" with "artistic choices that may alienate certain disabled players."
like, okay, speaking as a musician and an autistic woman: there are certain sounds that I am simply not going to enjoy, right? I don't like music that's too heavy on the high end, because it sounds shrill. I've listened to music that had so much Stuff Going On at once that is literally made me feel sick from overstimulation. But that doesn't mean that music shouldn't exist, or that the creators should make a hypothetical pared-down remix just so I specifically can enjoy it. There's other music out there which I like! It's fine! I'll listen to that instead!!
and, idk, it bothers me because there are a lot of legitimate accessibility features that I think every game should have. there's no reason for a puzzle game to be inaccessible to colorblind people. there's no reason that an execution-heavy game shouldn't allow you to set up alternate control schemes. but the solution is not "make the puzzles easier" or "make the bosses do less damage" any more than the "solution" to a complicated piece of writing is "create a version where everything is written using simpler language." idk! it just feels like a refusal to engage with art as art and not Product.
like in general making care work dependent on sentimentality is a fucking bad idea lol, to some extent you can't really prevent the fact that people interacting with one another will probably feel some type of way about each other but esp when you are taking on a role where people depend on you for basic bodily care tasks, necessary medications, proper performance of potentially dangerous procedures &c it's not actually about YOU or your feelings at all & the more you make it into that type of ego trip looking for self satisfaction because youre soooooo self sacrificing and empathetic and you love your patients sooooooooo much -- the less you actually see & think about & serve those patients. never confuse personal fondness for evidence you are doing right by that person -- completely irrelevant & not at all protective against or mutually exclusive of abuse. people who are disliked or dislikable also need care! you signed up to provide it to them. if you cannot do bear to do that and do it fucking well then find a different job
This is not a "forgive your abuser" post or me saying my way is the right way. I just want to talk.
Someone very close to me was formerly abusive to me. I'm not going to outline what they did, other than to say it wasn't malicious (intentional) abuse and it wasn't CSA or rape or something. It was people being broken because of their own trauma.
Still, this person traumatized me and there were plenty of times I would've been well within my right to walk away. For my own reasons I didn't. I acknowledge that a lot of abusive people don't significantly change, and my advice is usually that it's better to leave for your own wellbeing and safety rather than wait around hoping it gets better.
I'm grateful that this person did start to listen, understand, and do something about it. Step one was actually grasping that they were abusive. They put in real effort to change as a person--this involved years of therapy that they were resistant to at first. Things didn't significantly change until they started putting in the work and getting help.
While it's not the most likely scenario, people should know that someone's behavior doesn't have to be a permanent state of being. You don't have to stay to find out, you don't have to forgive anybody, but know that people do have the potential to become a different person. If you've been/are abusive now you don't have to resign yourself to being the bad guy for the rest of your life. You have a choice to do something about it, no matter what your reason is for getting there in the first place.

(and if you do, your perpetually impoverished favorite author is always in need of help: paypal.me/marsinaries)
I'll make a more eloquent post on both substack and Patreon, but I'm having to push back on writing right now, as I am severely burned out. Like, your fae can barely think, nevermind write 80k words for faer second novel. So, I won't be getting my next check for a while, and I don't know when I'll start getting royalties, so I'm going to have to ask all of you lovely people to help keep me and my family afloat. It'll be at least until September-October, and in that time I'll be trying to write a few short stories here and there, but honestly, I'm one bad day away from checking myself into a hospital. So! To avoid that, and if you'd like to support me and my work:

"I don't mean to criticize people who are actually disabled, I'm just talking about people who could easily do it but are too lazy to bother-" well you're attacking both in practice because there is no way for you to tell the difference and the first group is a lot bigger than the second
