for the past two years, JAMES ZHAO has been new york’s one and only spiderman. but one thing led to another, his identity got figured out, he altered the entire world to forget about him, and now everyone couldn’t even recall him behind the mask, even his own friends. but then he realizes that even though everyone’s memory of him has been erased, every physical trace of james zhao remains. and suddenly, a letter from the philippines finds itself in his hands. a well-written letter signifying a girl’s love for him during the time he became an exchange student back in middle school.
he holds on to that letter, afraid to let it go alongside the feeling of being loved by someone in the midst of everyone forgetting who he is. the letter was simple, it was written by a twelve-year-old girl who fell in love at first sight with the exchange student she never even properly conversed with, let alone met eye to eye. she simply admired the boy from afar, singing praises of him in her letters with her glitter-tipped pen and pasting flowers she personally plucked from her mother’s garden.
he never met the girl, much less knew what she looked like, but her words were sincere and sweet enough to leave an impact on his life, never knowing that they would become the one thing that kept him grounded while he was in shambles.
that is, until he hears someone shouting “margarette julienne” along the streets of queens, the same exact name signed at the bottom of the letter addressed to him. and one thing leads to another, and now he’s attending the same college as her with only one plan in mind, a ploy to watch over her and protect her, which to james, is adjacent to how her letter has been comforting him for the last few months.
but before he knows it, he becomes the outlet for her fury the moment he starts competing with her in class. before he knows it, he finds himself looking forward to the way she glares at him whenever he gets a grade higher than hers, secretly enjoying every second of the attention she gives him. before he knows it, the girl whose letter once made him feel remembered becomes the very same girl who makes him feel seen all over again.

MARGARETTE JULIENNE ESTRELLA , also known as ‘MJ’ by her peers, comes from a long lineage of medical professionals who have made a name for themselves within the medical field in the philippines. and as the generations passed, the more pressure was placed upon those who carried ‘estrella’ blood. each child born into the family was known for their gifted intellect, often regarded as prodigies or polymaths from a young age. margarette was no exception, gifted in both chemistry and technology, with a knowledge of various fields of science that seemed almost beyond human comprehension.
so it comes as no shock that she manages to get herself admitted into a prestigious college in new york, majoring in chemistry. as much as she loves the subject, however, the thought of it being her only option for a future that her parents would accept has always left her feeling dreadful. because, in all honesty, she aspires to be a writer.
it is evident in the countless letters she has written to the boys she once loved, writing becoming her only source of an outlet for emotions she could never bring herself to express aloud. she was never the type to openly voice her feelings, especially when the academic pressure placed upon her by her relatives continued to weigh heavily on her shoulders every single day. so when she is finally accepted into a college in new york, she is beyond happy, knowing that she is finally out of her relatives’ reach and can, for once, be more comfortable with herself and the person she wants to become.
but of course, old habits die hard, especially when it comes to her competitiveness. and that becomes even more apparent when she finds herself with a worthy competitor in her class, one who seems to take particular pleasure in annoying the hell out of her.
nevertheless, she loves the brand-new feeling that new york gives her, especially when she keeps seeing a particular arachnid superhero at every turn. her friends told her that it’s normal to see him around the city, but seeing him swing by the same street she walks through on her way to school every single day? not so normal. heck, she even had an entire conversation with him from her balcony once.
and as much as she wants to disagree, there’s something about his manner of speech and demeanor that feels vaguely familiar. something she can’t quite put her finger on. but hey, that’s a theory for another day.
LOL this is a more refined version of my previous yap about spider!james. but anywho, im currently making an edit about this dr and im so excited to show y’all since ive been having this song stuck in my head for DAYS. it’s also a exam night so i might not finish it as quickly as i can BUT I WILL POST IT AFTER MY EXAMS I PROMMYYY
