If you think Stranger Things is about monsters instead of people breaking out of conformity, think again. Rovickie and byler are NOT there to lazily check off a woke box. They are the continuation of a persistent theme with ST’s couples.

Stranger Things couples represent something atypical or taboo in the 80’s.

Jopper were both previously divorced with children, and this also applies to Joyce with Bob.

Jancy have a class difference.

Duzie are not of the same religion.

Lumax are an interracial couple.

The only couple that didn’t end up working out was Stancy (which represents the face of conformity and the nuclear family). Mileven mirrors Stancy in many ways. I feel like this speaks for itself.

The other couples are widely accepted by the GA because the taboos they represent have been normalized to some extent. Homophobia is still rampant in today’s society, and it shows. It is important now more than ever for queer relationships to be portrayed properly, sincerely, and tastefully. It was considered “woke” to support any what the couples listed represent at one point in time. Don’t be blinded by what the GA tells you, and don’t let our cause be watered down by that term.
