You’d think more than a year after this interaction, people would learn to stop asking female cosmonauts sexist questions. And yet, here we are. Russia is sending an all-female group into space — and not only were they just asked how they’d get by without makeup, but what they’d do without men. They shut it down just as quickly.
Women that are at the pinnacle of health and intelligence, and at the forefront of science, and they are asked about their hair. Fucking pathetic.Â
And people act like women in STEM fields are treated the same and their own disinterest is why they are underrepresented.
FLASHCARDS SO MUCH FLASHCARDS help me
ALRIGHT AMERICANS TODAY WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT A THING.
How to make sure our pal Bernie Sanders wins the primaries so he can be our president:Â
1. First of all, what are primaries?Â
Well friends, it’s a preliminary election that decides the presidential candidates for each political party. If Bernie loses the primaries, he will NOT be able to become our next president. So for that reason it’s INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that we all get our butts to those polls when the time comes. Here are the known or expected dates for the 2016 Democratic Party Primaries:
February
Monday, February 1: Iowa
Tuesday, February 9: New Hampshire
Saturday, February 20: Nevada
Saturday, February 27: South Carolina
March
Tuesday, March 1: Alabama; Arkansas; Colorado; Georgia; Massachusetts; Minnesota; North Carolina; Oklahoma; Tennessee; Texas; Vermont; Virginia
Saturday, March 5: Louisiana; Nebraska; Kansas
Tuesday, March 8: Mississippi; Michigan
Tuesday, March 15: Florida; Illinois; Missouri; Ohio
Tuesday, March 22: Arizona; Utah
Saturday, March 26: Alaska caucuses; Hawaii; Washington
April
Tuesday, April 5: Wisconsin
Tuesday, April 19: New York
Tuesday, April 26: Maryland; Connecticut; Delaware; Pennsylvania; Rhode Island
May
Tuesday, May 3: Indiana
Tuesday, May 10: West Virginia
Tuesday, May 17: Kentucky; Oregon
June
Sunday, June 5: Puerto Rico
Tuesday, June 7: California; Montana; New Jersey; New Mexico; South Dakota
Tuesday, June 14: Washington, DC
2. Okay cool, now I know when I need to vote!
But do you know in some states you can ONLY vote for Bernie if you are a registered Democrat?
STATES THAT ARE OPEN PRIMARIES (you do NOT need to be a registered Democrat to vote for Bernie):
Alabama
Michigan
North Dakota
Arkansas
Minnesota
Vermont
Georgia
Missouri
Wisconsin
Hawaii
Montana
STATES THAT ARE CLOSED PRIMARIES (you MUST be a registered Democrat to vote for Bernie):
Delaware
Maine
New York
Florida
Nevada
Pennsylvania
Kansas
New Jersey
Wyoming
Kentucky
New Mexico
STATES THAT ARE TOP-TWO PRIMARIES (you vote on candidates regardless of their party affiliation so you do NOT need to be a registered Democrat to vote for Bernie):
California
Nebraska
Louisiana
Washington
STATES THAT ARE HYBRID PRIMARIES (these vary between open and closed, and often depend on the current party, so if you live in one of these states you WILL need to find out the protocol for the 2016 presidential primaries):
Alaska
Maryland
Rhode Island
Arizona
Massachusetts
South Carolina
Colorado
Mississippi
South Dakota
Connecticut
New Hampshire
Tennessee
Idaho
North Carolina
Texas
Illinois
Ohio
Utah
Indiana
Oklahoma
Virginia
Iowa
Oregon
West Virginia
3. Okay, so how do I register to vote/as a Democrat?
Worried because your state has closed primaries or you’ve never used your constitutional rights to vote before and you think registering will be a terrible, vigorous, process?
DON’T WORRY FRIENDS.
Registering to vote is so easy, let me walk you through it.
Here is an online form you can mail in (available in multiple languages) that also gives you step by step instructions depending on your state. If you live in New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, unfortunately you can NOT use this method.
For any state, you can check the following places to register in person:
State or local voter registration and/or election offices
The department of motor vehicles
Public assistance agencies
Armed services recruitment centers
State-funded programs that serve people with disabilities
Any public facility that a state has designated as a voter registration agency
Here is another link of states where you can register online, if you’re an anxious nugget like me.
EACH STATE HAS A SPECIFIC DEADLINE TO REGISTER IN TIME FOR PRIMARIES. IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER, MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT WHEN THAT IS AND REGISTER BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
If you do end up having to register in person, do not be afraid friends! You are doing a very important and brave thing.
4. Alright, so I know when I have to vote, I am registered to vote, and if my state has closed primaries, I registered as a Democrat! I’m done now, right?
Nope, there’s one last thing! If you’re like me and unable to get to a voting poll, whether or not it’s due to school, work, your health, or being out of your state/country, you need to fill out an ABSENTEE BALLOT FORM!
This link contains not only the absentee ballot forms of every state, but some even have more voter registration forms as well!
DON’T FORGET. DEADLINES EXIST.
Write it in your planner, your calendar. Post it on your ceiling. Write it in ketchup on your burger. Tattoo it to your arm. Whatever helps!
AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, WHATEVER YOU DO:
Do not brush this off. Do not assume, well I’m just one person, what is one vote going to do? Bernie can win without little old me.
That’s wrong. You and your vote is so incredibly important. Bernie cannot win without you. Without us.
So please. Read this. Spread this. Register. Get ready to vote. Bernie promises to do his best to better America. Let’s do our best to get him there.
#Bernie2016
Why is this so complicated? WTF can’t it be ONE SIMPLE THINGY FOR ALL THE STATES.Â
Had a very productive day off without leaving my bed. Got a bunch of stuff for computer science done that I'll be missing when I go to Hawaii next week (sqeeeee) and finished an application to this El Salvador missiony type trip. Thank you to our veterans 🇺🇸 <3
How to ace all your tests.
The news that National Geographic has now been placed in the hands of Rupert Murdoch prompted a predictable outcry, roughly akin to what happens in the movies when the clearly evil tycoon takes the orphans away. A bastion of popular science is now controlled by a very prominent climate change denier who, despite his company’s assurances of editorial integrity, has spent decades interfering with the independence of his properties. A tabloid king could now apply the values of the New York Post to one of the world’s oldest magazines.
The media was up in arms yesterday at news of Murdoch’s high-profile acquisition. Here’s what you should know.
^ICYMI…
For anyone who doesn’t know, Rupert Murdoch is the man who owns and runs Fox News.
Holy shit
This is the kind of thing that not enough people will know or care about and by next year it’ll just be happening and people will slowly become less and less educated about climate change and you won’t know why
I know we’re supposed to be a comedy blog but I feel like this is something I should at least share…….

So I was "tagged" by @tbhstudying to o the handwriting challenge. (I put it in quotes cause she tagged everyone but whatever I'm gonna let myself feel special.) My handwriting kinda depends on my mood, the first one on the card is the one I try to use for notes and pretty stuff, the second one is my timed write or rough draft cursive scrawl and the 3rd one is my I'm a lazy person scrawl. I'm going to tag @montysmayhem and @kimberlystudies if they haven't done it already. The challenge is url, favorite food, favorite drink, and all caps.
Send Shanzay to Meet Her Heroes in Space Exploration
KINDA URGENT, ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT
Space is my entire life. It consumes my existence. Most people that know me are aware of my unending passion for Astronomy, Space Science and Space Exploration. I’m majoring in astrophysics and aspiring for a phD. So The Planetary Society invited its members to attend its 35th anniversary celebration. The society formed BY Carl Sagan. Event hosted by Bill Nye. With Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from Star Trek) presenting the Cosmos Science Education Award. Among noted guests such as: Andy Weir (Author of the Martian), Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Robert Picardo (Star Trek Voyager). Ya’ll. It’s my entire life’s interests, passions and dedications in one singular event.
And I just found out about this now, while the RSVP date is for Oct. 15 - which is in 5 DAYS. But It’s in Pasadena. I’m a literal poor college student living in New Jersey.Â
I need to raise about $1000 for the flight, hotel accommodations, the tickets for the event itself, and the actual event where they are presenting the award. The event is Oct. 23 and 24, 2015.Â
Here’s the YouCaring page to donate!
I grew up in the realms of Carl Sagan, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku, and Bill Nye through books, documentaries, and television series – I’ve had only one singular dream since the age of nine. To be among them. I’m also an incredibly huge trekkie. Goes without saying. The society unfortunately is so expensive because it aims to raise money through well-established rich donors. But what’s a girl with a dream to do? I mean I can’t just hop on a bus like Neil DeGrasse Tyson who headed on over to visit Carl Sagan in the 1975 – But I want so badly for my efforts and my endless dedication to finally begin somewhere. I’m aiming for a phD in astrophysics as a South Asian girl. So being in the STEM field is tough enough. But It still doesn’t end there. My real dream is to be the next Sagan or Tyson or Nye. I want to be in the media promoting science education to girls who are nine now and can see that book calling them on the shelf. I really REALLY would love to be able to go, and I’d appreciate so much if you could donate any small amount or spread this in that time period. Thank you so so much! Shanzay
Hey, fellow sophomore, how do you feel about a kik group or WhatsApp Chat for sophomores?
Sure! I'll have to download whichever app you decide to use but that sounds like a great idea :)
