shoutout to all the people in the northern hemisphere who get Seasonal Affect Disorder in spring/summer btw

most people think SAD is just "winter depression" and only happens coz of a vitamin d deficiency once the godawful sun goes away (where it belongs) but anywhere from 8-12% of SAD cases ocurre in the springtime change over, and no one really knows why coz why bother actually studying SAD in any real detail when we aaaaall knooooow its coz of vitamin d, right? summertime SAD is just idk, social anxiety and self esteem issues i guess get fucked. Anyway, summer SADders, stay strong, draw your blackout curtains and crank that AC, we will get through this and we will get our nighttime back once more, i promise

The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...

Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?

Hey everyone, just wanted to shout out to let you know that the Federal Trade Commission is currently collecting comments regarding ideological bias in AI in order to try start the process of drafting regulations. Given the current administration, this seems like a pretty transparent attempt to try to force AI companies to adhere to their own ideological biases.

Now, I can't tell you that you should, for example, leave a comment about your concern for the way Grok has been promoting white nationalist beliefs, but public comments in the regulatory process are a key step and they shape what comes next. If the regulatory agency doesn't fully consider the comments and form a reasonable response to the ones it disagrees with, that can form the basis for overturning a regulation in court.

Anyways, here's the site where you can leave comments that will shape this regulation, the deadline is July 31st.

this may be my age showing but I am a passionate supporter of wires. earbuds? put a leash on those things. wireless keyboard? no, it needs to hold hands with the computer. the ps5 controller I forgot to charge has the staying power of a wealthy nonagenarian with a much younger wife and 14 life insurance policies, but the controller plugged into my pc? that baby will outlive my bloodline. my ethernet cable is like a son to me.
