2015 NCLEX Study Question of the Day
A nurse describes low-risk therapies to a client and includes which of the following in the discussion? Select ALL that apply
A. Herbal Remedies
B. Prayer
C. Touch
D. Massage
E. Relaxation
F. Acupuncture
Correct Answer
B, C, D and E
Rationale: Low risk therapies include therapies that have no adverse effects. A nurse who is trained and has experience using these therapies is able to implement them and help the client to follow through in their implementation. Low risk therapies include my favorite, and many patient's favorite, laughter and humor, as well as, meditation, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, music therapy, massage, touch, and therapies that are spiritual or prayer based. Herbal remedies and acupuncture both have possible risks and are not correct answers.
Test Taking Strategy:
Focus on the words in the question... Low risk. Low risk therapies are non invasive and do not have adverse risks associated with their use. They are therapy options that a nurse with training and experience in their use can provide as options for care to the client.
