I bound the first 28 translated chapters of the webnovel "Got Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work!" into a physical book!! I made this as a gift for a fellow GSGW fan that I met at a local convention! I burned the spine a bit as I was melting the glue but I’m still very proud of this overall, especially since I put it together overnight (including the typesetting and editing an english version of the cover - certainly a fever dream of an evening!) Highly highly recommend the webnovel to anyone that hasn't read it yet - it's basically SCP Foundation isekai, with fantastic characters and a incredibly fun plot! There's not an official english translation yet, but there are some links to read a fan-translation here!

Renegade Bindery Exchange 2025:

Royal Flush by @astolat (bound by @owlwinter8)

As part of the 2025 Renegade Bindery bound exchange I received this absolutely stunning copy of Royal Flush, and it deserved a it's time to be admired in the sun!

When I opened it I nearly cried. The endpapers! The typeset!! The vinyl!!!

I always burn vinyl, that is part of the reason why I am a printed cover person. Even the blurb is vinyl and all the vinyl is just immaculate! It is so skilfully done, I could wax lyrical about it for hours.

The typeset inside is so clean and beautiful, and reading it was a genuine joy.

I still don’t believe it is mine, I keep coming to pet it and every so often in awe.

I need to take a moment to really gush about the Renegade bookbinding community in the discord and how very lovely it is. Everyone is so so so amazing and kind and skilled. I had such a fantastic time and this was my first exchange experience.

Huge huge kudos to the @renegadeguild exchange mods too! They were all so excellent, were so patience with us, and kept us all on track, though I am sure at times it was like herding cats.

Typesetting in One Click: Microsoft Word Macros 101!

For @renegadepublishing's Binderary month, I gave a talk about how you can use Microsoft Word Macros to automate the typesetting process!! This talk was aimed for beginners, and covered how to install and use the Blak Books Bindery Macros (which can typeset an Ao3 fanfic in a single click!), how to customize Macros, some very basic VBA syntax, how to understand VBA documentation, use debugging tools, and more! If you're a total beginner to bookbinding, using Macros is one of the easiest ways to get started typesetting! You can watch the recording of the talk here. I bound my favorite Undertale fic, Puzzles might be fun if you tried them by lizardystopia! I'm particularly pleased with the spine - I was sweating thinking about how I could figure out how to fit the fic's name on it, but I'm happy with the solution I came up with :D

I bound Apple by flixfreckle as a present for my roommate!! This Stray Kids fic heavily studies the relationship between religion and sexuality through the lens of fanfiction, and so because of that, a lot of the design choices in this bind reflect religious imagery. Also, this was my longest bind yet at 157k words, and I'm super proud of how it turned out overall!! Art: Staircase window by Ethel Spowers

I bound “The Lives Worth Saving” by cywsaphyre, my favorite Naruto fic!! Despite having been abandoned well over a decade ago, this fic still has a warm place in my heart. It was the first fanfic I really became obsessed with and even after all these years, it’s amazing how much of the story I've been able to remember beat-for-beat 🧡 Cover art creds: 頂上 by @my_nameisyoon

Anastasis Typeset

With @chthonion 's permission, I have posted my typeset for Anastasis to this Google Drive! You can print the PDF with regular 8.5x11 paper. More images of the full bind here.

Some notes:

I ask that you do not repost these files anywhere, and don’t even think about using them to bind a fan work for profit!! This typeset is being shared with author permission, but they may revoke that permission at any time and for any reason.

The PDF version is ready to be printed as-is, and can be printed with regular 8.5x11 printer paper. The signature size is set to be 6 physical sheets (so you’ll be folding in half every group of 6 printed pages – check the page #s line up)

The MS Word version is for if you want to adjust the typeset before printing. (This is set up as a Microsoft Word file. Idek what would happen if you tried opening it in Google Docs.) You’ll need to download the Bible Script LET font for things like the title page & chapter headers; and download the EB Garamond font for the main text. Note that the vertical chapter header images are part of the page header, so click up there to move or change them (This is so you can change all of the chapter headers at once). Note that the images look lighter than they really are until you click into the page header. Once done editing the doc, print it as PDF to get everything collated in a printable form (then print from that PDF).

Cover/spine/back art is also shared in the Google Drive

Endpapers I used was the back of this patterned paper.

Foil effects were done with a technique called toner foiling. You’ll need a laser printer (vs an ink printer), toner reactive foil, and a laminator. The rainbow foil I used for the cover/back is this laser golden foil. The gold foil I used for the chapter headers is this minc-brand gold foil.

I made a fanbind of the incredible Anastasis by @chthonion!! This fic series is truly something special, and even on my first read I knew that I wanted to bind it. This was also my first bookbind where I fully felt like I knew what I was doing, and I'm incredibly proud of how it came out!!

I bound Anchor by @valleykey as a quarto!! <3 I don't read that many jjk fics, but I stumbled upon this one one day and it really stuck with me just the same. I'm super happy with how smoothly the construction of this bind went, especially compared to my first quarto that I had made ~a month previous! Cover art credit goes to you.tats on insta, though I uploaded the version with typography here if anyone else wants to use it! <3

Continuing my Astolat bookbinding collection, I bound Royal Flush by @astolat!! My favorite Game of Thrones fic, and one that's I've gone back to re-read more times than I can count!! I'm super happy with how this bind turned out; I had learned a lot in binding Heal Thyself that made binding this one much easier. Also have I mentioned that I've fallen in LOVE with holographic foil??? I've uploaded the cover/spine/back PNGs here! Feel free to use, though credit would be appreciated <3

My first full-sized bookbind!! This is Heal Thyself by @astolat; ie the fic I loved so much that I decided to take up bookbinding just so I could have a physical copy of it! It was definitely one hell of a learning curve, and while it certainly isn't perfect I'm super happy with how it came out <3 I've uploaded the cover/spine/back PNGs here! My first bookbind!!! This is a back-to-back bind of call it peace by simaetha and fractal by Ias. I fell in love with how these two time loop fics foil each other, so I bound them together as a quarto! My baby cousin has always been sick, but got diagnosed with cancer when he was six. He started watching Techno with me around then, and his seventh birthday was Techno-themed. He's really tired of being sick. It was showing in his immune system too, because he stopped struggling to stay alive. But then, Techno got diagnosed with cancer too. And he donated to the Sacroma foundation, which helps kids like my baby cousin who have Sacroma cancer. And he wanted to be alive again. He fought and was so fucking brave and now he's eight and is on his last round of chemo. He's better, and his immune system is still weak but he's better. And I have Techno to thank for that.
