Hey, Cordera, I've been trying to get a hold of you over email for a week.
The ‘Fiore beaded bag’ in your FW 2025 collection is a direct reproduction of one of my handwoven tapestry designs from 2019. It’s a lovely bag, but unfortunately an exact copy of my work. Not a detail is different. I was never consulted, credited, or, crucially, compensated for its use.
While the bag is not for sale on your website - whether you quietly realised and removed it, or have just sold out I’m not sure - it is still being sold by a number of your stockists at around €500 per unit. Bags have also been gifted to influencers, who would have had no reason to doubt the legitimacy of the design, who’ve then posted to their ~150k-500k+(!) followers with zero credit.
Prior to this, I wasn’t familiar with Cordera, but I see many of my most stylish friends are fans. You seem to have good values and to be passionate about craft. If you’d licensed my design or hired me on to consult for the project, I may have been happy to work together. I’m surprised that a brand positioning itself as a high quality, ethical fashion label would recreate any design - even a royalty free image - without changing a thing, let alone an artist’s work. Perhaps you found the source image online with no details, but a quick due diligence reverse image search by your design team would have given you my name. I’m even more disappointed to see this was a collaboration between yourselves and “a women’s community in Central America”. People have likely purchased this item thinking they’re supporting under-championed craftspeople, when in reality, the product is taking from a small student artist’s livelihood.
I’d love a reply so we can discuss an appropriate resolution, so please do email me back: [email protected]
