question, how do i make my drawings not so stiff? How to make them more flowy? It looks like they are just a cardboard cut out
well I donāt want to tell you the same things youāve probably heard before, so, basics-wise, iād say study and mess around with all these:
Then, for me, I think about, (not necessarily as like a hard-fast rule, but theyāre handy guidelines for me) the specific action theyāre doing, the purpose of what theyāre doing, and the attitude theyāre doing it with. Because itās easy enough to say to loosen your lines, but personally, I feel like my poses are aimless and stiff if they donāt have personality attached to it.Ā
So once youāve place what theyāre doing and why, itās a lot easier to visualize and draw the action. It especially helps with scenes or people doing similar actions, but you want to differentiate them.Ā
Changing either why theyāre doing something or their attitude towards it really helps me sort out smaller details of poses.Ā
Really hope this helps and thanks for asking! āØ
Artist asks GO!
1: Take a picture of your workspace.
2: Show your pencilcase and whatās inside.
3: Show a thing you last drew, no matter how small or a ādoodleā it is.
4: Lineart or coloring?
5: Who/what inspires you?
6: Draw a same pic with your dominant and non-dominant hand.
7: Do you have any OCs?
8: Do you listen to music when you draw? Favorites?
9: Favorite thing to draw?
10: Least favorite thing to draw?
11: Draw a pic of yourself like how you look just now.
12: Any weird artist behaviour you admit doing?

Blueās Feathers and Wings Compendium: Standard Wing Shapes
Part 1 [Standard ]| Part 2 [Atypical] | Feather Markings | Tail Feathers
I have expanded the traditional 4 types; Highspeed, Elliptical, Low Aspect and High Aspect ratio, because they were very narrow and vague categories for the most part, adding High Energy, Thermal Soaring, Night Glider, and Passerine wings. I feel that these extra types make it easier to understand and visualize the differences and similarities between wing shapes.
Iāve renamed Low Aspect to Powered Soaring, and High Aspect to Dynamic Soaring for the purposes of the fact that names made it hard to understand purpose and were easily confusable.Ā
A lot of these wing types are also affected by tailfeather shape and size, and that will change their agility and energy expenditure as the tail also generates lift.

Ho would you draw shoulders from the side? I've always struggled with that.
Iāve been thinking about it too, and honestly itās quite troublesome to think about. I never really thought about howĀ I draw it, I just improvise until it looks believable. However, I did notice there is a trick for itā¦
Okay so hereās the body, right? Ignore the obvious anatomy errors, Iām lazy and tired at the moment, but the idea should be clear. Think of the shoulder as ball-jointed doll. Draw the circle in the motion of the body as the base andā¦
Bam! Put a teardrop around it! I love teardrops as guidelines so much. I donāt think I have to explain it, do I? I think it speaks for itself; rotate the teardrop and the shoulder should follow it. Use it as a guideline and eventually you wonāt have to use it anymore, itāll be there mentally. I do, however, reccomend you pose in front of the mirror to get more correct results on how the lines will bend with the muscles. Just stand in front of the mirror and move your shoulders around, notice what muscles follows and etc.Ā
If you need any more help with this, let me know.

Queenās Thief Appreciation Week Prompt 6: Favorite Line or Moment
EUGENIDES: āDonāt⦠lower⦠the⦠point⦠in⦠third!ā
COSTISĀ (paraphrased): I HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE
Like some of the other prompts, I canāt possibly choose a favorite scene or retort in this series that holds some of my favorite scenes and retorts in all of literature. But I hadnāt drawn Costis yet and Iāve always wanted to attempt this moment.
I went through several sketch iterations to get here. First I threw together an inspiration board and proceeded to completely ignore the color scheme I created:
Then I blocked out a rough sketch of the action:
Ā I liked the body language here, but Genās movement isnāt all that believable, and overall it felt too stagnant. So I tried again, tilting things a little for a low-horizon perspective:
Drawing this sketch made me remember that IĀ h aT .eĀ drawing foreshortened perspective, so even though the position is more dynamic, I changed it up again and went with more of an angled view:
There! That sketch felt a lot better, and it gave me the opportunity to make full use of rim and bounce light, because Iām Trash for rim and bounce light.
I blocked in my values (first in green, like an idiot):
Then drew my lineart (with an 8-pt charcoal brush or some foolery, I canāt remember):
Laid down my color base:
And then it was just refining and squinting at my color balancer and doing fun details like earrings and stubble and flying sweat.Ā
I should note that this is decidedly more involved than I usually get with my piecesānormally Iām doing well if I bother to do a value sketch at all, never mind multiple perspectives and an inspiration board. But I wanted to get this scene right and give it the energy it deserved. Also Gen has Kaz Brekker hair and Iām not sure how that happened, but weāre going with it, whatever.Ā
Last day of QT Appreciation Week is tomorrow, and itās a free for all! Go, ye masters of foolhardy plans, go!
a quick grass tutorial
Iāve never really wrote a tutorial before so apologies if this is bad
1. okay first thing I do is pick three colors, a mid, dark, and light. I like to check the colors in greyscale to make sure thereās enough contrast between each one.
I then plop down a blob of whatever my middle tone color is.
2. next, I take my dark color and just sort of randomly place it around. I try to make sure thereās a good amount of both the mid and dark tones spread throughout. I personally like to keep it kinda messy. I also have pen pressure on for both brush size and opacity, so I can have some blending action going on.
3. for the next step I do the exact same thing as before, except with the light color.
4. aight this is where we start adding details. see how you just have a bunch of colors and edges where two colors meet? use the eyedropper and go to an area where two colors meet, eyedrop a color, and then use that color to draw in your grass blades. I do this at every point where colors meet. should note I personally like to use a square brush, but you can really just use anything.
5. you can technically stop at the last step if youāre going for a more simple look, but to add more details I go to the āemptyā areas of solid color and just draw in random strokes using a color nearby. itās just a way to fill up the empty space.
6. basically more of the same idea of eyedropping and drawing. for more variety so things look interesting, I like to add random plant shapes.
7. and so the grass doesnāt look too plain, I add random dots of color and pretend itās flowers and stuff.
and there you have it, this is how I approach drawing grass.

"You are no longer licensed to use the software," Adobe told them.
Friendly reminder that GIMP does pretty much everything Photoshop does, and itās 100% free. Fuck DRM and the license culture, we have plenty of open source options available to us as a consumer.
Lightworks is a freeware video editor on par with Premiere
Blender is an excellent freeware 3D renderer, possibly better than After Effects
Lightzone to replace Lightroom
Inkscape to replace Illustratr
Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)
If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck āem. Donāt use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.

Re-blogging because these are all so good!!!
I reblogged this before, but itās worth reblogging again!
I made a thing! I was thinking about this for a few days - because I realized that when I was young, I was also frustrated about being given the same advice over and over - without really knowing what it meant!!
Hereās 5 techniques which I have done before which have helped me grow as an artist, which are good for 5-minute warmups or just straight up challenges for your sketchbook!Ā
Obviously, these are not the ONLY techniques - theyāre just the ones I find most fun! And maybe theyāre not the mostĀ ācorrectā ones out there, but itās better than another comic about practicing more, right?Ā
Good luck to everyone on their drawings!
