Hey I love ur stuff(its amazing) could you do companions react to sole calling them Nate or Nora? Plz and thank u
Cait: Confusion. Cait’s prone to a lot of things, and confusion is absolutely not the last on a long list of emotions that she can fathom, but when the name ‘Nora’ slips past Sole’s lips, Cait catches herself staring at them with an eyebrow raised. “You know that ain’t my name, Sole,” she tries, watching their face to gauge for some form of recognition. When it doesn’t click, Cait raises an eyebrow. “…My name is not Nora.” She sees the realization finally settle when tears come to their eyes, and she immediately realizes that she’s messed up.
Codsworth: If robots could cry. He hears ‘Nate’ and immediately bursts out into a round of simulated wailing, one robotic arm extending to their shoulder. “Oh, Mum/Sir, I’m so sorry,” he whines. Sole tries to laugh it off– “It’s nothing,” they try. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that. Freudian slip.” Codsworth has known them long enough to know that it was more than that, and there’s some part of him that’s relieved that Sole misses Nate as much as he does.Curie: She is unaware who Nora is, but judging by the way that Sole gets themselves choked up when Curie asks who it is, she’s only to assume that it’s someone important. She’s never heard the name before then, and it’s not until she notices them fidgeting with an old wedding band around their ring finger that she pieces the puzzle together, and she frowns, drawing Sole into a hug. “I am sorry, Madame/Monsieur, I was just taken off guard, no? I am sorry to bring up painful memories.” Sole can’t begin to describe how much it isn’t her fault, so they don’t even try.Danse: He’s almost positive that they’re trying to guess his first name or something at first, until they let out a laugh. “Sorry,” they say. “You just– something you did just now, it reminded me of something that my husband used to do.” Danse’s face gets hot, and he pauses, shoulders raising stiffly in his suit. Sole can apparently see just how flustered he’s gotten, because they smile softly. “Sorry– too much?” Danse shakes his head. “No,” he answers simply. “…I’m sorry that he cannot be here in place of me.”Deacon: He passes it off. It’s easy for him to laugh and grin when Sole calls out ‘Nate’ and not ‘Deacon.’ “Shit, Sole,” he calls back, free hand shoving itself back into his pockets before he shrugs. “Never thought of going by that for a code name. It’s a pretty good one.” Sole watches him before they just smile appreciatively. Sometimes it’s good to have someone to mess around with– and they know that Deacon gets it. You know, probably. Dogmeat: It isn’t directly aimed towards Dogmeat as much as it’s mumbled under Sole’s breath at something that they remembered. Dogmeat’s been following sole around long enough to know that it’s no good, though, and he whines as he nudges his head up against their open palm. Sole blinks past tears before they look down at him. “Hey, boy, what’s wrong?” Dogmeat whines, licking Sole’s hand. He can sense when they’re hurting, and now is one of those times.Hancock: Sole catches the slip before Hancock does, and they try to apologize, but Hancock just grins over at them. “He must’ve been pretty damn great if seein’ me’s remindin’ you of him, Sole,” he muses as he flicks the ashes from the end of his cigarette. “Ever need to talk about him, I’m all ears. If alcohol’s gonna need to be in the picture, let me know, we can plan in advance.” Sole just laughs and nudges him, but the smile on their lips tells Hancock that they appreciate the gesture.MacCready: He’s called them ‘Lucy’ more times than either of them can count, and he’s called Shaun ‘Duncan’ a handful of times as well. Regardless of whether or not they’re family, they’re close enough to feel like it, and especially when things get deep, MacCready couldn’t be frustrated with them if he tried. Whenever he’s called ‘Nate’, the both of them ignore it– it was just another mistake, and maybe someday they’ll heal enough to be able to stop. But he could never be upset about it.Nick: “Sounds similar enough, Sole, you’ve got the ‘N’ down pat. Just a few syllables off.” Nick watches Sole’s expression flicker from distress to anger, before it settles on bemusement. “I mean, we’ve been travelling together a while, don’t get too warm and fuzzy on me,” Nick jests, though there’s a fuzziness in his chest he can’t wipe away. For some reason, it hurts to know that Sole’s going through all of that in their head.Piper: She understands. It’s hard losing someone, and it’s even harder when someone else reminds you of them. When Sole slips and calls her Nora while they’re writing an article together, Piper can tell that they know they did it. She sees it in their face as soon as they look up in utter embarrassment, cheeks dusted with red. As soon as they open their mouth, though, Piper just grins and hastily reaches for a stale stick of Big Pops Bubblegum, shoving in their mouth. “Gum always helps me focus, Blue. Why don’t we try to do something else for a minute?” Sole looks shocked before they just laugh, raising a hand to wipe their face. “…You’re ridiculous, Pipes, you know that?”Preston: He doesn’t mention it, and Sole doesn’t notice it. They’re too busy figuring out rations to send out to the Minutemen Settlements when Sole speaks. “We just gotta ready the brahmin with a pack saddle, Nate, and we can send him over with one of the settlers and a gun. It isn’t too far.” Preston nods, standing up. “I’ll right on it, General.” He doesn’t realize the name until he’s starting to pack a saddle, and it isn’t something that gets to him too badly, either. So long as Sole feels comfortable with him, that’s all that matters to him.Strong: “Name Strong. Not Nate,” he answers gruffly, and Sole blinks. He’s pretty sure that they look scared, but Sole’s honestly just confused as to how they accidentally mistook Strong for their loving husband, but it still stings all the same. Strong thinks nothing more of it– however, he can’t help but be offended at the sheer notion of Sole mistaking him for some basic squishie human.X6-88: “That is not my designation,” he says simply, watching them. Sole blinks dumbly, watching him before they laugh and glance aside. “Right. I’m sorry, X6, I slipped up.” X6 is familiar with the name– He’s learned it in records on Father’s history. ‘Nate’ was Sole’s husband, X6 is no fool, and he’s absolutely not going to push any further. “It is typical of you to. Humans are flawed. But it’s alright.”
