On a temporary hiatus till some other fics are done that I was working on before starting Paint and Smoke (and really should have finished first before doing this, thats on me and the brain worms that said to write this anyways)

A small, recurring theme during the lenora chapters for this fic is going to be a personal headcanon of mine that Will really shouldn’t feel too comfortable in places that are supposed to be home, something that can usually be ignored but reaches a height when it starts to get cold.

Because Will made it home. He made it home where he was supposed to be safe, and that didn't matter because the demo still got him. Chased him outside into the shed, and he didnt even know that the shed wasnt safe either (cause he thought it would be at least safer with the gun trained at the only opening and nothing but walls around him) because he was taken from within it.

So home, during the cooler months, in my opinion should fill him with a bit of unease at night that leads to more and more nightmares as it gets colder.

Hi I just wanted to ask this since I don’t really feel comfortable reading it. Will this story have smut in it?

It won't. There might be a little fade to black type thing when the characters are older (cause we're going all the way to that scene in the bar in the final) but nothing more than kissing (if there was gonna be any smut the rating would be Explicit, its mostly just at mature because of the violence thats coming in later chapters once we catch up with s4 canon timeline)

Will deserves to be creepy!! He was actively trying to take zombie boy and reclaim it!! I wonder if Boris would ever see an old comic of dear old zombie boy..

All the Byer siblings are freaks and I stand wholeheartedly by that!! Nobody has any idea how well Boris fit in with his idea of philosophy and humanity in a house of artists too! It's gonna be fun to read as you develop them

Zombie boy will be making a reappearance later in the fic, dw about that. And Boris will be getting a name of his own along that line.

Will was psychically linked to a serial killer through their equal possession by a monster from another world, if he isnt allowed to be a little creepy idk who is.

Boris is definitely gonna fit in great

Paint and Smoke is soo cute so far! I really love how so far the bond between Boris and Will is fresh but yet deep! Both wanting to protect each other (Will with past abuse and trauma and Boris with current abuse and trauma) and recognizing how they're "temporarily" filling a role.. Yet treating each other differently than the boy before them so it's actually a new role for both.. can't wait to see how they develop!

Also Will exploring his more alternative side with Boris vs Boris getting the Byers adoption treatment.. that boy is getting fed and his own drawer sooner than later

Ive planned out the first 17 chapters (pre s4) and so much of it was just me sitting there going "let's have them be sweet and increasingly deranged yet domestic at the same time. They deserve it" and even though they were each drawn to the other because of a past love - and have some interactions close to that past love with their current situationship - they deserve to be loved for themselves, not as a reminder of who they used to want. And me just trying to show that from the start. Show that neither of them are looking to fill a void, they just want each other

Paint and Smoke

Summary:

Will Byers and Boris Pavlikovsky are two people that never should have crossed paths, never should have worked even if they did, but now that thy have there was no letting go. Or: Will isn't expecting anything when he moves to California, even less when near all of his friends lose contact with him quick. Then he meets a boy that looks like the friend that he left back in Hawkins and knows that its a bad idea to be anywhere near him. But even bad ideas were better than being apart once he had spoken to the other even once. Boris moves to Lenora in the months after Theo leaves for New York, and starts high school at Lenora Hills High. There, he meets one Will Byers, and both their worlds change for good.
