@artemisbarnowl Corgi’s don’t just have short legs, they are dwarfs.

The mutation which causes corgis (and dachshunds, bassets and other dogs which are pretty normal up top but just have short legs) is a type of achondroplasia, and it’s a single gene. You either have it, or you don’t. If the corgi parent is homozygous for this gene, as most are given their long history and the undesirability of producing tall puppies, then all the offspring in a first cross will inherit this type of dwarfism.

There is not multiple genes affecting the leg length of these dogs. It’s only one, so they either have it or they don’t. There are certainly other genes which affect leg height, but they’re all modified by this single, autosomal dominant trait.

If you did for some reason end up with a corgi that lacked at least one copy of this achondroplasia gene, it would probably look more like this.

This is a corgi cross who is tall. They certainly exist, but of course a ‘viral’ social media article is going to carefully select the best photos to fit their joke.
