To write Will the way they did in the van scene and not follow through is to create a character who loves so selflessly and gets nothing back.

"But he gets platonic love-" no. He had that when he cried into his hand. He already did. Guess what? He still cried into his hand. To create Will like that would be to create a character who loves so selflessly and gets nothing back.

Fellow Mike Wheeler defenders and Bylers. I have a theory for you. What if the reason Mike has been so slow to pick up on Will's interest and attraction to them is actually because Mike actually finds it quite hard to conceive of people being attracted to him? Like I know this is far fetched but hear me out. It's literally canon that Mike doesn't like having pictures taken which often is to do with an insecurity about presentation. Mike's fear of puberty which is when people are more self conscious of how they look. Mike's main insult in his childhood was to do with their looks. Lucas literally said the reason he's so infatuated with El is because he likes the idea and someone not being completely forced out by him. What if his fear of El leaving isn't just internalized homophobia but the realization that if she finds someone better she'll not be attracted to them anymore? Like I genuinely think one of the reasons Mike struggles to pick up the clues of Will being attracted to him is because he has a hard time comprehending the idea that people see him as attractive. Obviously internalized homophobia plays a role but what if the other component is genuinely Mike not comprehending that people are capable of finding them attractive?

He's full of shit.

Anyone who has followed me here for any significant amount of time knows I don't trust anything an actor says about something yet to be released. Professional actors aren't meant to spoil anything (unless it's intentional and a planner part of marketing), and David is as professional as they come. What he said is what's in line with the post season messaging.

Whether we like it or not, whether we believe it or not, what they want fans to think after season 4 is that Will loves Mike, but that Mike loves El. Yes, we see deeper than that, but they're not going to admit to it since it'd be a significant (if not outright huge) part of the final season.

So, yeah, he's full of shit, but only because it's his job to be full of shit. The shit he's feeding us is the shit he's told to feed us. He's simply not allowed to answer questions as he pleases if it has implications for something we haven't seen yet. That's also why he had to phrase it in such uncertain terms ("I don't think..." or something like that) since he had to pretend he's simply giving his own interpretation. He knows full well what's going to happen. They already have the scripts, or at least some of them, considering filming was due to start right before the strike started.

So, yeah, he's feeding us shit, just as they all are. I suggest you all stay away from the buffet until after the final season is released. It'll only leave you with a bad taste in your mouths.
