it's a tendency i think people mostly associate with the right but frankly i see it a lot in progressive spaces? if you point out to someone that a fact they're using to back up their argument isn't true or that or that the argument they're using to back up their position doesn't hold any water they'll react as if you attacked their position rather than their argument.

anecdotally: i was groomed/exploited as a teenager by an older trans woman who had active callouts circulating against her for pedophilia and for Problematic Kinks (CNC/rapeplay IIRC). i didn't suffer that much compared to many other victims, but i bring it up because she was EXACTLY the type of bogeyman so many people claim to be going after, a Problematic Trans Woman who genuinely did hurt people.

the way that she was excluded and harassed by people her own age only encouraged her to befriend minors. she had one serious relationship in her life, and it was a tme person who wrote the callout posts against her. she was even honest about it - she told us that she was chased off tumblr by callouts, which made me trust her more because at 15/16 i already knew multiple trans minors who had suffered the same thing for obviously spurious reasons.

harassing her did nothing for us. "warning people" was pointless; even if we had seen the callouts before we met her, someone else wouldn't have. you know what would have protected me? if she had STILL HAD ADULT FRIENDS who could've talked with her, instead of almost every single one cutting her off outright. or if we had known adult trans women aside from her who we could have talked to, instead of their - very reasonably, from their POV - avoiding us because they knew they could so easily end up like her. the people calling for her to face "accountability" and "justice" actively made my life worse. they could have helped me by genuinely loving and caring for a "bad person", but instead they chose to feed their own self-righteousness at my expense.

P.S. the only outcome of her callouts that could have prevented what happened to me would have been someone finding her and killing her in cold blood. so if you've never held a gun to someone's head and pulled the trigger, i REALLY think you ought to shut the fuck up about "protecting victims." harsher punishment doesn't work. care does.

This whole “discourse” around ISFF has had me thinking over and over again about how Paul Robeson was blacklisted from being a prominent face of the civil rights campaign despite being possibly the most globally well known Black person from the US, bc he was a communist in a time it wasn’t just unacceptable socially but legally dangerous and would’ve brought even heavier crackdowns on the civil rights movement.

The result was an incomplete liberation because it was only uplifting the “acceptable ones” within a capitalist framework rather than uplifting the baseline total rights regardless of belief/existence.

The point there being is that so long as there are categories of human we view as unacceptable we cannot achieve total liberation. All trannies and faggots are pedophiles, addicts, bums, rapists, whores, etc. to those who see it convenient to get rid of us, and refusing to address this issue will only result in an incomplete liberation because we cannot leave behind those who are seen the worst by society when we ARE them too by default.

We cannot be truly liberated until even those viewed as “the worst of society” have the same basic rights and ability to survive in society as everyone else. As humans, they deserve that much. You will become a pedophile as soon as it is useful for someone to make you into one.

There is no option but acknowledging they are still human and cannot be simply removed from society, because as long as there are stigmatized demographics, we will be able to remove the basic rights of anyone.

I don’t have a “solution” and I will not answer requests for one, because I’m not here to offer one, I’m saying that humans remain human and we cannot achieve true liberation as long as we are willing to allow demographics of “acceptable ones to harm”. niche nitpick I know but a "moot point" is not something that isn't worth talking about. it is literally the opposite. "moot" is a word for a citizens' assembly that has cognates throughout the Germanic (especially Scandinavian) languages. originally saying something was a "moot point" meant that it shouldn't be talked about right now, instead it should be tabled until it could be fully debated with the entire community present. the slide from that meaning to "this isn't important" probably has something to do with the emergence of the idea that politics isn't real life. anyway when someone says something is a moot point you should be like "cool, I'll call the lawspeaker and ask them to put it on the agenda"

Another reason for homeschooling to be banned/regulated out of existence: the annoying homeschooled adults in the notes arguing that, yeah ok, SOME homeschool kids might be horrifically abused, denied a basic education (and therefore making it nigh impossible to seek higher levels of education), isolated, and in the worst circumstances, don't even SURVIVE.... But I think I turned out fine, and as the main character of the universe, I think my individual experience should hold more weight.
