I donât get why the RWBY fandom is so hostile toward the âQrow is Rubyâs dadâ theory. I donât care what Miles said, I love it, I think itâs fun, I think it adds to Qrowâs angst, I think Ruby doesnât look anything like Tai and keeps getting father/daughter arcs with Qrow while Yang is the one who gets them with Tai. They keep doing all of these things to accidentally enforce the theory while insisting it isnât canon, which like it isnât, I know that, but Iâm always gonna love it.
It also doesnât make Tai any less Rubyâs dad. Like yeah Qrow could be her father biologically, but Tai raised her, Tai loves her, she calls Tai dad. He is still her dad too, nothing about that changes.
Really, I like this theory less for what it means for Ruby and more for what it implies about Qrowâs character. He thinks of himself as a bad luck charm, it makes sense that especially when it comes to his daughter heâd want to do anything to keep her safe, even if it meant removing himself from her life altogether. She has Tai, she has Summer, she even has a sister, sheâll be fine.
I think canonically it wasnât until after Summer died that Qrow became a more active presence, and even then Qrowâs visits were sparse. But Tai was a mess and someone needed to make sure the girls were safe, so Qrow intervened as best he could while still keeping that he was Rubyâs biological dad a secret, because at this point, who was that going to help?
I think if Ruby found out she would be confused. Probably feel betrayed. It would strain her relationships with both Qrow and Tai to some extent. I donât see it changing anything about her relationship with Yang, however. I could see her asking âDid you know?â and once Yang said she didnât, she is just as confused as Ruby, that would be that. They would still regard each other as sisters, no change at all, maybe even be brought a little bit closer.
But yeah thatâs the appeal to me. I think of this as less of a âtheoryâ and more of an âAUâ since Miles confirmed it will never be canon. So itâs an AU I really really like and pretend is canon, basically. I think it couldâve been cool! Familial angst is great! And it makes sense and fits with the storyline, but alas, never to be
