Honestly, it’s kind of a surreal experience, but I’ll try to explain it the best I can and see if it hits any notes for you at all ((disclaimer: IT LOOKS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE, THIS IS JUST HOW IT FEELS FOR ME)):
So, I’ll use Teddy Lobo (the first kin I realized I was) in this example — when I started watching Renfield, it felt like I was watching a character, right? The same way normal people consume media.
But as things started to happen, it felt like I was getting deja vu while watching it. Like, I know, realistically, I have never been in that situation. But, in watching it, I can almost recall that exact scenario happening — sometimes even down to how the room smelled.
Then usually there’s one scene/point where I watch it and my brain goes “NO, BUT THAT FUCKING HAPPENED—“ — in case of the example, it was this scene specifically ((GIF BELOW IS EXTREMELY GROSS, BUG WARNING, BODILY WARNING, LITERALLY I SNORT A CENTIPEDE)):
I remembered EXACTLY what that felt like, like, to the point where I was watching it (for the first time) and had to pause because I could feel it in my nose.
And “shifting” (when one set of memories is more prominent than the others) just kinda feels like. Idk, imagine one day you woke up and your brain went “remember that time with Master and–“ and you have to physically remind yourself “No, there is no Master, Master is fictional” and then mentally kick yourself in the dick because you still call the old shit “Master” like a bitch
Sometimes it’s a fuckin cocktail of memories, some memories stay forever, some come and go, some fuck around once and fuck off, some are uncomfortable to not do shit about (ie. Sherlock shift = analytical, Teddy Lobo Shift = swearing like a fucking sailor if you haven’t noticed”.
I could explain more, but I’m losing the fucking plot already and I need to get outta this goddamn shift, gimme 5 minutes
Yeah, cause like a few weeks into playing dw anytime there was a pebble or even a twisted pebble it wouldn’t happen immediately but after the round I’d just feel like I remember being chased by the twisteds and the adrenaline of it. And I don’t mean I remember distracting and the stress of it, I mean I remember having the twisteds chase me around what ever the pebble was distracting around. And how I felt the adrenaline pumping through my body while also feeling shockingly calm like I’ve done this before and I know what I’m doing, even if it’s intentionally putting myself in a life or death situation. But it wasn’t really a “wait a fucking minute” type thing until one of the shorts qwell posted that had pebble in it. Because in the “your joy is my joy” one aka the one where dandy gets pebble, when I first watched that I had this weird dissociation from myself as i watched it. Like I didn’t go, “I remember that so fucking well-“ it literally was the husk of me watching it with the weirdest vague sense of recollection of that moment happening. But the pebble investigation video aka the one where pebbles shadow scares the crap outta Rodger and the Easter one where the things that made me go “no but like I remember that!- and like I REALLY remember that?-“
And now when I go and watch any of the clips it’s a vivid memory of it- like I watch the “your joy is my joy” and I remember Delilah putting me in a box and telling me to keep quiet for a treat. I then remember HEARING Delilah and Arthur talk to a familiar voice, a voice of a friend. I remember getting excited as i heard the friends voice, but I couldn’t remember his name. I then remember Arthur picking me up out of said box and seeing my best friend. And it’s like I know that didn’t happen and shit but like-

AND SERIOUSLY, I don't think some people get it, but it's literally a physical thing- I'm not sure if you've noticed, but you get a lot more in the zone when you're distracting and even double that when you play Pebble

So I keep getting ads for Shopify or whatever it is like Shopify big thing with their ads. I worked the same job every day and did the same thing every day that good boring that get monogamous. Meanwhile, every time I get one of those ads my responses no I don’t want every day at my job to be different. I’m autistic AF. I want to do the same shit every day give me my schedule, bro. Don’t tell me I’m gonna be doing different shit every day and it’s not like oh every Tuesday I do this one thing and every Wednesday I do a different thing not Tuesdays ain’t the same this Tuesday the same as next Tuesday in so forth and so forth now that’s bullshit. I’m autistic. Let me hear my job be the same bro. I wanna do the same thing every day or relatively the same thing every day so I have a schedule in system and my autistic brain can work.
Just FYI, I don’t have an official autism diagnosis, I do have an official ADHD diagnosis and in the process of getting diagnosed with autism. The only reason I’m not diagnosed is because they couldn’t get the pre-screening test results in because my emails retarded. But the results of the pre-screening tests basically say I am high functioning autistic anyway that’s my random rant that got triggered by a fucking Shopify ad I got-
