In honor of Shazam actually being good, here’s a couple of my favorite comic panels of all time with Mary Marvel. What a power move.
(source is Shazam! #17, E. Nelson Bridwell and Bob Oskner)
Made a Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider Reading List in collaboration with Comic Book Herald in the same style as my Miles Morales reading list! CBH does a lot of reading orders which are mad helpful because I mean… just look at that Spider-Verse reading order…
Anyways I re-read a bunch of Gwen comics to make this and she’s so lovely and fun pls read her books.
Sorry to make like.. the longest post in the entire world but I put together a Miles Morales comics reading order list/guide! For anyone who likes to read relevant comics before or after they see a comic book movie like….or if you’d just like to get to know this kid!!! hes a good one
I know comic fans like to nitpick so let me just say right off the bat pls dont come at me with things to add or change… im prob not gonna fix it.. and im not trying to make a definitive list here either - just my personal recs for whats important in a miles read-through!
Best of TwentyGayTeen in the comics universe, as voted by our followers.
Thank you for being with us for one more year and for sharing with us your favorite characters, comics and shows. 2018 brought to us a lot of LGBTQ representation, amazing new characters and comics - we couldn’t fit everything in a single post, but we did our best to do each Top 3 justice.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
LGBT Representation: Saga
Prince Robot IV (Genderfluid Bisexual)
Introduced: 2012 (Issue #1)
Happily married to his wife, but admits in Issue 17 that he’s had sexual fantasies about everyone in his former platoon, male and female alike. And then in Issue #46, he tells Petrichor that her identity as a trans woman doesn’t bother because his own gender identity is fluid.
Izabel (Lesbian)
Introduced: 2012 (Issue #2)
Since she’s a ghost who’s been dead for decades, Izabel doesn’t really have an active love life to discuss her sexuality, but in Issue 23, she mentions one of her biggest regrets was not realizing how precious her relationship with her ex-girlfriend was until after she’d already died.
Gwendolyn (Bisexual)
Introduced In: 2012 (Issue #8)
She’s the ex-girlfriend of Marko, and she falls in love with The Will, but Issue 16 reveals that she lost her virginity to a woman named Velour, who she ends up marrying in the 6th arc.
Upsher (Gay)
Introduced In: 2013 (Issue #13)
Upsher and Doff have been in an open romantic relationship since their first appearance.
Doff (Gay)
Introduced In: 2013 (Issue #13)
He and Upsher are already in an established relationship when they first appear. And they are adorable together.
Velour (Unspecified)
Introduced In: 2013 (Issue #16 {as a hallucination. Appears in person in Issue #38)
She first appears to her ex-girlfriend Gwendolyn as a plant-induced hallucination, before appearing for real during the War For Phang arc as Gwendolyn’s wife.
Petrichor (Transgender)
Introduced In: 2015 (Issue #31)
Her very first appearance has her explaining her identity to Hazel after the latter walks in on her in the showers.
Dark Horse Comics Lady Killer mini series (compiled into a perfect bound graphic novel edition) is written by Jamie S. Rich and Joelle Jones, and masterfully drawn by Ms. Jones herself.
The gritty (and bloody!) story deals with a Mad Men era suburban Seattle housewife who’s actually a CIA assassin.
Artist Joelle Jones explains how she playfully put together a series of vintage ad mockups while doing research for the project, shown above (with additional hand lettering by Crank). The mini-series is a dark delight, just as these playfully grim ads are. This isn’t a comics blog, of course. And Rich and Jones’ mini series won’t be for everyone. But the art is still terrific, and those ads are fun. The illustration style and typography is strictly now, but the coloring and general ‘feel’ are pure retro. And we’ll admit it: We love retro, and get a real kick out of seeing contemporary tweaks and twists of vintage 20th century design, illustration and photographic tropes. Check out more of Jones work at joellejones.com.
1) I’m gonna need to get this comic, I can tell
2) You know how some times you can get like prints of vintage magazine ads for home decor? I NEED THESE IN THE EXACT SAME FORMAT SO I CAN FRAME THEM ALL OVER MY APARTMENT

Raven the Pirate Princess is Sinking
I despise doing posts where I ask for help, but here we are.
About two years ago I started a new creator owned project. It began as a spin-off of Princeless, but the reality is this - Raven The Pirate Princess is its own thing altogether. I knew this from the first issue and if you’ve been reading, so have you.
Sure, the first few issues of Raven: Pirate Princess had that heroic lady feminist banter for which Princeless has become known both among its fans and detractors. I mean, Raven had this scene:
and issue 1 had this scene:
But perhaps much more importantly, the first issue of Raven had this:
but that wasn’t where that ended. This is a book about a community of diverse queer women actively claiming their place in the world and taking what’s theirs. It’s about Raven, who is desperately in love with her childhood best friend Ximena
It’s about Ximena, a girl who was held captive for years by a pirate king who pretended to be her liberator. Who fell in love with the pirate’s daughter, only to be left behind by that father when she outlived her value.
About Sunshine, the thief that chose the wrong target and ended up falling in love with a woman already hopelessly in love with somebody else.
It’s about Katie, the bisexual second in command who’s motivated by honor…and occasionally beating the snot out of a dude or two
Oh and in case I forgot to mention, Katie is also incredibly muscular:
And Jayla, the asexual science genius who’s tired of being treated like a little sister
and Cid, the deaf engineer who quietly keeps the ship running
and of course, these two:
The socially awkward poet and the angry sword fighter who couldn’t stand her who have somehow become these two:
But here’s the thing: this comic is failing. It has a very dedicated and exuberant but at this point SMALL fanbase. Today I had a hard conversation with Action Lab about the reality of the numbers on this book versus what it costs to produce this book and, suffice it to say, Action Lab isn’t ready to cancel the book, but they aren’t ready to greenlight year 3 either. After Year 2 #13, Raven is set to go on the shelf until numbers can support continuing it.
This is where I need your help
If you care about this book full of queer pirate ladies and you want it to continue, we need to find a way to spread the word about it. We don’t need to sell single issues (it would be nice) but ultimately we need the trades sales that back up the continuation of this big YA Pirate/Revenge/Adventure/Romance thing.
Digital copies can be bought instantly right on Comixology: https://www.comixology.com/Princeless-Raven-The-Pirate-Princess/comics-series/46971
You can buy the physical volumes on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B01BF7U91Q
In fact, if you’ve already purchased volumes 1-4, volume 5 is available for preorder there right now!
Maybe you’ve bought all the issues already. Thank you! If you still want to support Raven, you can review the books on Amazon or other retailers, you can share, reblog or retweet this post. You can tell a friend about the book!
If you have a comics review site or, say, a blog where you talk about LGBT media, contact me for review links or interviews. Please, help us save our ship.
