Celebrities speak out against #AltonSterling and #PhilandoCastile. #BlackLivesMatter
Couldn’t have said it better!
English is a global language because English speakers have been global conquerors. It’s not about the quality of English nouns and verbs, it’s about the quality of English guns and money.
“A Linguist Explains Emoji and What Language Death Actually Looks Like”, by Gretchen McCulloch (tumblr) at The Toast (via waitingformycoffin)
In back-to-back tweet storms, writer and editor Ijeoma Oluo detailed a frustrating reality that many white people angered by the situation frequently overlook. Black people keep dying at the hands of law enforcement because few of those with power are doing anything to prevent it. Sympathetic sentiment, she said, is not enough. In the following tweets, she listed 14 ways to actually enact change.
you don’t need to be white to enact state sanctioned violence on black people with impunity, or state sanctioned violence at all. structural oppression cares very little about the identities of the people breathing life into it.
Watch: Lavish Diamond Reynolds spoke to reporters about Philando Castile’s death
jake gyllenhaal is my favorite celebrity because he’s so goddamn elusive and weird. he’s always in good movies and is a very good actor. he’s also extremely hot. but on the other hand he’s the guy New Yorkers spot wearing a birthday hat at a restaurant and buying ice cream sandwiches in bulk. he’s the guy Taylor swift wrote a near whole album about. and he’s not on any social media so I can’t confront him. honestly who is this man.
Nobody said #AllLivesMatter until we said #BlackLivesMatter Nobody said #HeterosexualPrideDay until we had #GayPride Nobody wants #WhiteHistoryMonth until its #BlackHistoryMonth Nobody mentions #MensRights until we talk about #Feminism
This shows me that you don’t actually care about these things, you just want all the “minorities” to shut up so the status quo never changes.
no offense but like… male artists go on stage wearing shirts and jeans and their performances aren’t anything special, there aren’t any WOW factors and they get to strip off their shirt and get praised for an “amazing performance!” while female artists actually have pretty costumes designed for performances and give it their all - vocals, choreography, special effects, revamping their song - but are given minimal praise?? and are slut-shamed for what they wear?? and are accused of lip-syncing when they’re not?? like it’s so hard for people to acknowledge talent and it’s SO MUCH HARDER for women in this industry to get the attention and recognition they deserve and they have to work 10000x harder than men do because of the sexist society we live in. it’s fucked up and it sucks
Every time I read that post about doing things out of spite I remember that C. S. Lewis put that fucking street lamp in Narnia because Tolkien once said that no good fantasy story would have a lamp in it.
Donald Trump telling Bernie supporters they’re welcome to support him feels like the scene where Voldemort declares that Harry Potter is dead and asks if anyone wants to start following him.
Mentally ill? Nah I’m mentally SICK my brain does cool kick flips while wearing shades and I cry a lot
being mentally ill is so tiring even when you’re not doing anything like damn I’m just sitting here and my brain wears me out
officer: do you know why I pulled you over
me: because you saw that squirtle and you want to get it before me
