i think it is very depressing that like every aesthetic people try to emulate are of people doing things but they themselves are incapable of being somebody that does things… the mall goth 2005 aesthetic revived in 2022 but nobody goes to the mall to be annoying and weird and nobody lets themselves be cringe… the cottagecore aesthetic but nobody knows how to raise gardens or live self sufficiently … the dark academia aesthetic but nobody actually reads books…. The obsession of looking like you are a type of person who does something without actually doing anything … the Instagram effect
we need to bring back the word Poser
ohhhh my fucking god this isn’t about hipsters and mainstream culture or fucking whatever . This is about how we’re living in an age that is so dependent on social media identity that it is more important to curate yourself as someone who appears as though they are competent and substantial through their appearance rather than their actions . Where your identity and sense of self is entirely dependent on your consumption
Banishment is the funniest punishment I can think of. Just get out of here

It would be so funny if autistic people started describing allistic experience the same pathologised way doctors describe autism
Symptoms of being neurotypical:
You have immobile, frozen hands that do not fidget.
Your interests are shallow.
You read into phrases past their actual meanings.
You are unbothered by eye contact and enjoy staring into people's eyeballs.
You do not notice patterns in numbers and objects even when they are logically connected.
You don't mind doing things without planning them out first.
Instead of saying exactly what you think, you expect others to infer it based on subjective social rules.
Don't be discouraged if you're neurotypical. If you work hard, you too can be decent at math and accomplish the same things autistic people can!
bring out the rotating tiger
so youre telling me that some asshole can just throw together meaningless shit and get notes and attention yet when i put actual thought into the things i say nothing happens i am so fucking done with this bullshit god damn fuck

I was listening to the In Our Time episode on the measurement of time and the guests were talking about incense clocks, which were an East Asian thing.
Basically you take a stick of incense that burns at a known rate, put some marks on, burn it, and use the marks to measure the passage of time. Or in more elaborate ones like in the image above, you put bells on strings and hang them on the stick of incense, so that when the incense burns to a certain point, the bells drop down and chime. Or things along those lines.
Others involved a trail of incense powder, and you told the time by where the trail had burned, or in the case of ones like in the image above, by where the smoke was being emitted from. Wiki says some designs could burn for a month.
But by far the method I was most taken with was one where you connect multiple types of incense into a single stick or a line of powder, so that each hour (or whichever unit of time) has a particular smell. I find that totally delightful for some reason. A very, very charming premodern way of doing things. Imprecise, but charming.
*sniffs* oh fuck I’m late
What time do you get off work?

for those who are struggling with having and finding purpose: maybe, for now, your purpose is waking up in the morning and taking on the day ahead. maybe your purpose is continuing to live despite it all.
Hello, Police? I accidentally stepped on my cats foot and need to be arrested
Don’t forget that you are human. It’s okay to have a meltdown, just don’t unpack and live there. Cry it out and then refocus on where you’re headed.

good morning everyone have an absolutely furious mongoose
It’s cuter when you recognize that the lion with visible spots is a juvenile. There’s a very high chance the other lion that runs over to investigate is the MOTHER.
The first lion is asking for comfort because she was given a big spook!!! and she needs mommy to tell her it’s safe and ok!!!! (What’s cuter is that mommy clearly reassures her, and goes on to take the parent role of ‘deal with the scream rat in order to protect my large and easily frightened daughter’)
this is all in all an adorable video 10/10

I’m sorry but homophobia and racism aren’t opinions
Being part of the social justice culture or the “stay woke” culture, I usually thought that the main purposes were to:
1) Unlearn what was taught to you
2) Learn what was never taught to you
3) Educate those around you with the knowledge you have
But you see…
You will come across people that will ask questions that may sound problematic but they just genuinely are confused about the matter and just want to learn
I had a white girl, sweet as hell, that was curious about why White people can’t say the N-word but Black people can say it.
Now… If this was Black Tumblr/Twitter, y'all wouldve ate her alive and spit her out. Like, why would you ask a question like that????
I didnt take any offense to the question, because again, you have to educate.
I broke it down simply…
“Bitch was a term used by men against women… If you call your female friend ‘my bitch’, theres nothing wrong with that… but if a guy did the same thing to his female friend, that wouldnt not look too good…”
Then she understood! She doesnt like when men call her or other women bitches but she noticed how women call each other bitches (almost) all the time in a friendly context.
Some SJW ppl would resort to just straight ridicule. Like relentlessly roast you, and you just wanted to ask a question, get your answer, and just go.
I understand some people would come outta nowhere with smartass comments and deserve that roasting, im 120% for that, but yall really need to learn the difference between those 2 groups of people.
I remember saying/doing something problematic not too long ago. This guy just went off on me, called me stupid, and vaguely explained why what I did was problematic. When I asked for a more in-depth answer as to why it was an issue, he didnt want to explain, he didnt have the “energy” to explain but had plenty of energy to say what i did was wrong and i was stupid to do it.
To this day, I STILL dont know exactly what was wrong but I am avoiding that action for sure.
To cut it shortly for yall,
Some people genuinely dont know what they do/say was wrong. Some ask questions to learn and educate themselves. Relax…
Ridicule or slander shouldnt be a first option to everything, if anything, its more counterproductive. Not to mention yall do this for notes and attention on social media.
ALL. OF. THIS.
This shits still relevant
how do u tell the difference between executive dysfunction, procrastination, and laziness bc fuck idk how to
Idk if you were actually looking for an answer but I talk about this with my therapist a lot so heres his wisdom:
Laziness=You don't want to do a task, so you choose not to, and you're fine with that. You either dont care if it gets done or you figure someone else will do it.
Procrastination=You want to do the task, but you put it off because it seems difficult/boring/time consuming.
Executive dysfunction=You want to do the task, and intend to at that very moment. There is no significant reason not to, but you can't because your brain is having difficulty transitioning between activities.
The key difference, he points out, is that if you experience guilt or shame from not doing it, then it's NOT laziness, because those feelings indicate, on some level, a desire to complete the task.
The latter two have more overlap imo, but for myself, I think of it as whether you are having trouble confronting the task itself, or just the transition.
An excellent explanation!
