Everyone who said, “long live the queen” didn’t think it would actually work this well.
Have you heard Prince Charles air his opinions? If he takes the throne there is a good chance we’ll end up a Republic. He has his father’s ‘gift’ for words.
what opinions has he... “aired”?
can't decide if i should be somewhere with 3'000'000, 300'000 or 3000 people. aimless is my middle name
I’m Hilit, and I struggle with mental health issues [such as anxiety disorder, panic attacks, depression, self harm, eating disorder..]
Which makes it really hard to function, also, my treatment costs a lot of money [therapist, medicine and such], and then there’s art school which I struggle to attend to but is what kept me going after my suicide attempt.. It’s been around half a year since.
I’d say my recovery is going quiet well but we’re struggling under the financial costs and I feel like such a burden on my parents.. Also I’m scared I won’t be able to have therapy as often as I need to and do now, and I don’t know if that’s a change I am willing and capable of doing while staying safe.
So, why don’t I just get a job? Well I can’t function in one.
So this is me trying to gain some money through art..
Here are some of my stuff and a link to my portfolio and my deviant art..
I’d really appreciate it if you at least took a look
I do traditional art- acrylic paintings, pencil drawings, ink drawings, charcoal drawings, oil pastel, and also digital art and illustrations
You can buy the original paintings, or just prints of them, or commission me to create whatever you want, maybe join me in on project you’re doing? Anything at all would be really appreciated! And if u can’t do that I understand, I always see ppl asking for help and not being able to afford to, but maybe single boost?

And taxing people to pay for healthcare results in crappier healthcare?? So everybody has it but it's not worth having and as a result more people die?? Check out what's going on in the UK right now for example?? IT. DOESN'T. WORK! Treating it like a "right" guarantees that it gets WORSE, not BETTER. Also you hurt the economy so more people are poor/depressed/stressed and so they NEED it, but it's worse so it doesn't help!
Do you actually have any evidence that it doesn’t work other than right-wing sensationalised media? Like have you actually looked at healthcare reports, statistics? Etc? I suggest that you go and do that.
Can’t speak to the UK as I don’t live there, but here in Germany it works. I suggest anon look into German medical care statistics and the economy, and maybe into the depression statistics amongst students in Germany compared to the US, and then go sit in a corner and think about what they’ve done.
Works in Slovenia too. It’s not always perfect, but hey, if you have cancer, you have a chance of surviving without going completely broke.
*Canada*
Both of my parents had cancer simultaneously and I didn’t have to sell their house to pay the medical bills. My dad had terminal cancer and was in the hospital for nearly a year.
The problems in the UK are less to do with taxation and a lot more to do with the government arbitrarily setting a healthcare budget that is less per person than nearly all Western countries. And about a third of what US folks pay. We pay a lot less AND nobody goes bankrupt or dies without care. I’ll let you do the maths.
I work in the NHS. We’re under pressure and underfunded but it works as best as it can. We need to invest properly in social services rather than cutting disability allowances.
None of my patients become bankrupt because of emergency operation. Nobody dies of cancer or in pain because they cannot afford to pay for treatment that would bankrupt their families.
I work in the NHS and I don’t think our problems would be solved by privatising, least of all by adopting a US-style system. It might even be better for me financially but it certainly wouldn’t be better for my patients.
Before trusting the media, or even politicians, it is worth remembering how many interests in private healthcare many of them have (even our current boss), and the power of big corporations when it comes to lobbying for their own interests.
I think it’s an oversimplification to label privatized or socialized healthcare as being either inherently “bad” or “good.” Some countries have socialized healthcare, and it’s awesome. That is not the case with every country. Same with privatized healthcare. Just look at Switzerland. Their healthcare is privatized and they have an extremely healthy population.
I don’t think there is a good “one size fits all” healthcare system and that’s important to remember. Every population differs.
True, and I’m certainly not going to argue any one system is terrible. The arguments here usually seem to centre over money, and which system is seen to be cost effective. It’s also worth noting that different countries have wildly different populations with different needs and completely different setups for how everything, not just healthcare, runs. That said, even Switzerland isn’t entirely privatised. According to the World Bank, which uses figures gathered by the WHO, Switzerland has the same level public expenditure on healthcare as the UK in terms of GDP. And the US government spends more per head on healthcare than the UK.
These figures are only taking into account public health expenditure; i.e. spending from ‘government budgets, external borrowings and grants (including donations from international agencies and nongovernmental organizations), and social (or compulsory) health insurance funds.’ as put by the World Bank. Yes, this includes compulsory health insurance which is effectively similar to taxation. It doesn’t tell us everything. But it’s a reminder that even in countries which are seen as largely privatised, there is still a huge amount of Government input financially (and that means tax money). The idea that privatised systems are self-funded and that the Government doesn’t put in a huge amount of money to make them run is very simplistic.
i’ll suggest watching healthcare triage’s series about healthcare systems in several countries

I found the use of the evolutionary theory problematic. This is a highly contested theory and the authors did not strongly justify their decision to use it, nor attend to some of the major flaws of the theory.

google search: what music did i like when i listened to music?
I’ve been, for the most part, dead on the inside for a few years now, and so, I haven’t been listening to any music at all. This is, truly, a bad sign for me. I found it shocking when someone would tell me they didn’t really listen to music, didn’t really enjoy music, when I was younger.
Since the morning of January 11th I haven’t been able to stop listening to Bowie’s. It took his death to get me to wake up back to life.
So that’s my status. Trite but true.
Hopefully, this is the start of something.
Things to do when you meet a celebrity
tell them they inspired you
politely ask for a picture/hug (if the situation allows it)
ask them what to expect next from them (relating to their career)
don’t touch them without their consent
thank them for the things they do
tell them you appreciate their hard work
don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to a stranger
don’t yell at them
don’t sexually harass them (that includes sexual “jokes” you might have read on tumblr)
do not mob them
don’t ask them about rumours
just be a proper human being
They are human beings (and strangers) and don’t owe you shit.
So about a year ago, I was doing a red carpet thing for a movie. And I really like meeting nerdfighters, even in super-intense and unnatural scenarios like red carpets, so I was taking silly selfies with people who’d gathered by the red carpet and stuff, and then while I was taking a selfie with someone this guy grabbed my crotch very aggressively.*
Obviously, the crotch-grabbing segment of the crowd represented a tiny minority (well under 1%) of the total gathered community, but it freaked me out pretty badly (also it really hurt, because, you know, decontextualized crotch-grabbing is physically unpleasant as well as emotionally so). And since then I’ve been less inclined to immerse myself in crowds at events and stuff, even though I know >99% of the people will be super nice and respectful.
So that’s the only thing I’d add to this post, is that it can be hard to empathize with people who are famousish or whom you admire or whatever, because you may not know what weird things have happened to make them hesitant or anxious or etc., none of which has anything to do with you.
* I realize that there’s no truly unaggressive way to grab a stranger’s crotch, but this was yeah particularly, like, weird and purposeful and painful. And I realize I should’ve said something at the time probably, but even though I was in a position of power (famous person at an event celebrating a movie of my own book), I didn’t know what to say or how to say it or whom to say it to. Such is life, I guess.
should have broken his nose, is what you should have done
Today, April 2nd, Manoel de Oliveira has passed away.
The whole country was suprised, even though he did count 106 years of living. Maybe secretly we all believed he was going to live forever - or that we were all going to die before him. Not because he was 106 years old, but because he LIVED fully at his 106th birthday. He had just debuted a film, in September 2014, Velho do Restelo. He had more projects. Can we say that life cut those projects short? How short, at 106 years of age?
Manoel de Oliveira was born in 1908, in the city of Porto, where he died peacefully in his bed, with his family. He lived an entire century of art and history. He was alive when the first Republic began, when it was crushed to the coming of Salazar, when the New State era died with the carnation revolution, when the Escudo was turned into the Euro. He literally saw kings, presidents and dictators. Can you imagine how full a life like this can be? He breathed the french avant-garde and the russian constructivism, he knew what Europe was doing cinematic-wise throughout his life and he let himself submerge in all that was new, that was art… And made history for our little country.
Today, to our unexpected surprise, he closed his eyes. We, those who, no matter how old we are, grew up with his movies, now say ‘Morreu o mestre!’.
May he rest in peace and may his strong will pass on to the next generation now.
Manoel de Oliveira, 1908 - 2015. Here he is, dancing, at 99.
