I used to hate those posts about mental health where they'd tell me to drink tea and enjoy sunsets. My issues were much bigger than that, and they already got dismissed in real life by adults who didn't understand mental health. "Just go on a walk!" They'd tell me. It was enraging.

Now though, I've found myself agreeing with those posts and smiling when I see them. Its not that the adults had been right, but that I found myself with new agency over my own life.

I think to be happy you need to make the choice to do things that make you happy like drink tea, enjoy sunsets, and even go on walks, BUT, vitally you also need to have the agency to make those choices on your own terms. If school is exhausting, your homelife is toxic and/or all sorts of other things beyond your control are weighing you down, then it's no wonder a bit of hot leaf soup wont fix anything.

But things change, you'll get your freedom one day. Those posts are proof of that, proof of others who got out and are now enjoying sunsets like total nerds.

Anyway everyone shut up and start being vocal about trans men's rights to reproductive care. The amount of trans men and mascs I've talked to who are horribly mistreated and abused in OBGYN offices is so fucked. Listen and care about us.

It is such a common problem.

We need patient- and survivor-led oversight of medical professionals instead of referring misconduct reports to boards comprised solely of other medical professionals. And we need to make sure the majority of those patients and survivors are of marginalized communities. These people cannot and will not hold their own accountable. We have to demand better, and we HAVE to listen to and believe people when they talk about their experiences, and realize that for every instance we hear about, there are a dozen or more victims who never feel safe enough to talk about it at all.
