“I should have known that they would be relentless.” Those words brought a tightness in the kunoichi’s chest, bringing a sense of surreal discomfort to him. Those hues of his drifted off towards the side, as if talking about it made it hard for him to look at her. Which…it did. “But I thought that once we left their jurisdiction they would at least regroup.”
Pause.
“I am thankful that they had you torture me. If they hadn’t…we would both probably be dead. Their cocky need to prove a point saved our lives…well. You saved our lives.”
A hollow chuckle pushed past her lips. “I suppose, if you could call that…thing that I turned into, me.” Nyatta likely wouldn’t get over the state she’d gotten herself into during the process of breaking them out, but…at the end of the day, it was a means to an end, one that’d succeeded, no less.
She swallowed.
“…In all honesty, I was afraid that you would not look at me the same way again.” After seeing her that way, who would? A small frown tugged at the corners of her lips; she hadn’t given it much thought prior, but now…why was it bothering her so much?
This was gnawing at him. How could she not see that he was the real monster in all of this? Or at least...he was almost the monster. In another world he could have killed her. Without concern. Without care. In another world she was dead and he would have been paid for it.
A heavy sigh slumped the boys shoulders, his hands rubbing at his eyes. "Looks like we both had the same fear, huh?" Dry laughter escaped him. This was such a twisted situation.
Just as Riku opened his mouth to say something there was a brief knock on the front door. Anxiety pierced through his chest, his attention immediately staring at the door.
Who could it be at this hour?
Where to start..? That…was a good question. A few heartbeats had passed before the male spoke, “At the beginning.” the words were almost unsure. “When we were captured. Neither of us were prepared. What was…going through your mind?”
With a heavy sigh, her eyes drifted shut, though she kept her attention on his voice. “…Well, at first I was surprised. I did not know how to process the situation. Then…” Nyatta hesitated. “I thought we were going to die. …I thought that if I was going to die, I wanted to die protecting you.” How she’d wished they’d just killed her instead of making her torture him, too. But…in the end, it didn’t work that way, something she was thankful for. Otherwise they both wouldn’t be there.
“…What about you?”

It was beginning to become very clear that sleep wasn’t in their agenda tonight. Which was perhaps a sign. A brief sigh escaped him as Riku settled against her bedside. Yeah, they both looked wrecked. “Maybe we should talk about what happened.” He offered. “I wasn’t getting much rest anyways. It seems like as good a thing as any to do.” Perhaps that would push the demons off of their shoulders and let them rest? It seemed like their best shot at the moment.
Her grip against his wrist slackened before her hand fell back to her side. …Maybe he had a point. Despite how hard Nyatta tried to forget the day’s earlier events…even with how exhausted she felt, perhaps they needed this. A small nod was given in agreement, while blue eyes searched his gaze for guidance. …She’d noticed she’d been doing that a lot lately - looking to him for clarity.
“Where…where would you like to start?”

To anyone who knows Riku would know that he can sometimes be a serious guy. So coming up to him in an aggressive fashion when you are clearly the trespasser…oh. /Oh/.
“Axel.” Riku acknowledged, lifting his chin to peer across at the red haired-looking clown. A dark aura clouded about the boy, making it obvious that he wasn’t playing around. Riku seldom did that anymore. Especially at Hollow Bastion, where both Ansem Seeker of Darkness and Kairi was. “Why are you here?” He questioned, intentionally not introducing himself.
It was clear enough to Axel that this guy wasn’t in the mood for games - though, that just pushed him to make light of the situation even more. Hell, if he needed to fight at any point, it wasn’t like he couldn’t.
“I’m off to a job,” He lied blatantly, eyes narrowing. “Not that it’s of any business to you.”
“That still doesn’t tell me why you are -here-.” Tension lined his voice in a threatening manner. Intricate shadows caressed his skin as the power of darkness emitted from him. Riku had never seen this man before. Just the air around him wreaked in malice; obviously a soul not to be trusted. The lies and clueless-ness were so blatant that Riku could taste it on his own tongue. “You have one chance to explain yourself…otherwise, I take you down.”
“You think you’re the only one who is absorbed into the Darkness, don’t you?” It was a less biting tone. One more airing on the side of what could be concern if he actually cared. “I’m exploring the worlds. Through these,” Axel briefly opened a corridor, closing it once it had been properly displayed. “If it’s a fight you want, then I won’t deny you one.”
How...was...he...?
How was he able to do that?
Was this a trick?
Disbelief filled the boy's eyes at the sight before him. Opening portals of darkness were not easy...and to Riku's knowledge only those with true affiliation with the darkness could manipulate the corridors like that.
Should this red headed man before him have such a connection...why had Riku not met him before? Things simply didn't make sense. Not that Riku was naive enough to believe Ansem and himself were the only ones in tune with the shadows. There was just something off here...
"If that is true then follow me." With a challenging tone a dark portal opened up behind him. This would show the truth! "Unless you are a liar." No more words -- the silver haired figure rushed into the portal and through the corridor of shadows. Within moments he was able to pop up in another world. The Coliseum, to be exact.
This wasn’t a situation that Riku was used to. He was more of an aggressive fighter rather than a caregiver…so he wasn’t sure what he was to do. Those aquamarine eyes of his were tired, the exhaustion becoming obvious with the bags that were beginning to form. Even so, he pushed past the irritability that began to build up inside of him. Irritability – not at her, no. But at the situation. Perhaps if he had done things different..?
Ignoring those haunting thoughts Riku offered a weak smile. “It’s okay.” He reassured the best he could. “It is, I promise.”
The brunette gave her head a quick shake. “It is not.” She could see fatigue begin to take its toll on Riku’s body when she tore her gaze from the floor, and frowned.
A hand reached up to settle onto his wrist, giving it a gentle squeeze. They were both exhausted, but her instinct told her to see to it that he was well rested, first. Ignoring the tears in her eyes and the way her body trembled, as she was still coming out of her nightmare, Nyatta quietly began to plead. “Please, go back to sleep. I will be fine.” She chose to conveniently leave out the idea she had of watching over him while he slept. Sleep wasn’t going to be kind to her any time soon.
