This week’s questions are with Corey Salts from the very cool Messy Life Records. Corey and I aren’t too familiar, but I asked him about this because he’s done records for Blithe Field, who I adore. Let’s get straight to it!!!
1. State your name/what you do & a little known fact about you. ...
Hey I did a thing for a person. It was fun. Maybe you'd like to read it?
Listen/download: PUT THIS TO BED - COLLECTION IV by PAPA STEVE Last batch of songs, for your downloading pleasures.
Thursday is and has been one of my favorite bands for well over a decade now. This song changed my life in that it was a gateway to a different style of music that I wasn't open to initially. From that point on, I slowly became more open-minded and I couldn't be more thankful for that. I will also add this was the hardest song to sing I've had to do this year. I didn't realize that no one can really sing like quite like Geoff Rickly.
Thank you for all the support this past year. 2014 was a really eventful year for me. I learned a lot about myself, and how I approach making music. Also, I probably developed some bad production habits that I may have to unlearn, but I also learned some cool stuff. If I didn't cover a song you wanted, I'm sorry, it was most likely because I didn't think I could do it justice. But the kind words and support have been so crucial for me. If no one gave a shit about these, I probably would've given up. So again, thank you for everything.
Always messy,
PAPA STEVE
So, my goal for this song was to redeem myself from my original recording of this which is from a few years ago (and it sucks). It was released on a comp that I'm not going to tell you about so that you can't hear it. I don't know if I redeemed myself or not honestly, but this version is at least better than that one, so it's good enough for me. Last one next week. Thank you.
This was very much a last minute recording. Enjoy my scratchy violin playing. 2 more to go my friends.
Just a few more. This was a really fun one to do (thanks Todd for the suggestion!). In the coming weeks I should have a surprise music video for a song I did a few weeks back (which the picture above is taken from).
4 more. To my Ohio friends: PAPA STEVE is playing a show at the Trash Castle at Ian's house. December 13th. Check it out.
This has been really fun lately.
I always loved "New Girl" by The Suicide Machines since I heard it on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I always wanted to cover that song, but I just didn't think I could make it work. And recently, I've been really into these guys' self-titled album. This song is great and if you've ever loved a pet or wanted to, this song will make your heart all fuzzy and stuff.
Old 97's are such a great band. So many great songs to choose from. Naturally, I chose a downer and made it more of a downer.

This one goes out to my boy Mike Berges. He's one of the best dudes I've ever met. Number 44 down. What, like 8 more to go? Anything anyone REALLY wants to hear? I need some support in this last stretch, or I might start letting myself sleep more.
I've never been super into ska, but Less Than Jake is one of the few exceptions. I think I first heard this song on the Digimon movie soundtrack. I've loved it ever since.
Special thanks to my friend Jaclyn for recording some vocals with me for this one.
Here’s something you already know but bears repeating: moving is not fun.
