Working on a remake of my S/O's old drawing in 3d. (og drawing seen above)
First I had to make the character which took some work, most of the hard parts were during rigging. Might touch him up before I move onto the final step.
Forgot to mention, but this character is Nimbly, created years ago by my S/O as something she could doodle in a cute traditional style. At one point there was an intention to do more with this character and some of that might still happen so i wont spoil any lore just in case. But just know i love this character, hence my attempt to recreate him.
I originally aimed to copy the exact room from the og drawing and here is my attempt at that with the rough modeling pass. S/O stepped in around here, she would rather have the room more fully fleshed out.
One of the reasons i decided to do this recreation is to hopefully give my S/O the inspiration to draw Nimbly some more. All of her drawing of him just bring me so much joy, and talking about the world and characters surrounding him were always a blast.
First pass of texturing, had to move some things around to fit the new camera. The room still feels a bit bare here, and there are still untextured hero books that'll move in the final animation.
added that massive spider web based off another character from the world that was thought up long after the original drawing was made, though in later versions a shrink the web as it is a bit huge here.
Second to final pass of texturing here, added some barrels and a top left shelf, just trying to fill out space a bit. The hero books are textured and the book that will be picked up and used has actual pages rigged and animatable.
I like how the candles turned out, i have them setup on a loop so they animate like flame, though they are just little bits of geo with an emission shader on them. they look pretty good i think.
And here's the final version I'll likely be going with for the Set. Added a bunch of herbs and things hanging under the left shelves to help fill things in more. Then added some god rays coming in from the window, was originally going to use volumetric to get them working, but found an easier way using an emission shader and some futzing. Ended up looking pretty good i think.
I did move the table to the right side of screen as I want Nimbly to enter through screen left to walk up to the shelf and from there recreate the original drawing.
I have more stuff i can share, like animation tests and more detailed in progress modeling and texturing on Nimbly. Which i might share later. But i think for now, this is enough to motivate me to finish the animation at least.
This Marks the second week working on this Nimbly Project, though it is the first post i've made about it.
