Teaching and Learning
Growing up, I was a child surrounded by people who genuinely loved and cared for me. And all throughout my life – childhood, youth, and even now as an adult - I have always had the support and guidance of my family especially my parents. But as I moved about my life, I also learned of the harsh realities that others live through.
My experience joining a youth ministry in our church community opened my eyes to the different experiences of the youth. More so now that I am a teacher, I see this everyday in my students. I understood along the way that some of these children just need love. They just need hearts that listen. I never imagined that this is what it requires of me being a teacher. Not just the grammar, analysis of stories, or whatever lessons I teach in class. Being a teacher also means I have to show my students that respecting and taking care of one another is as important, more important even than the lessons they learn in school.
This is my first school year as an adviser in a face-to-face learning setting. More than the new ways I learned to handle a class this is one that I will always try to continue learning and doing. To be more understanding of the people around me especially the young ones.
